Tollywood’s path-breaking romantic drama Arjun Reddy is remade in Tamil with the title Varma and actor Vikram’s son Dhruv is reprising Vijay Devarakonda’s role in it. The theatrical trailer of Varma is out today and it fails to match the essence of the original version.

Going by the trailer, Varma seems to be a scene to scene rehash of the Telugu version. Though Dhruv looks promising and manages to get a similar makeover like that of Vijay Devarakonda, the visuals and the music doesn’t make the trailer appealing and interesting to those who have already watched Arjun Reddy. Intense and bold scenes involving the lead pair, anger management issues and emotional content are heavily inspired by the original but couldn’t recreate the charm.

Remaking cult and impactful films like Arjun Reddy is always a risky attempt. Dhruv body language and mannerisms look convincing to some extent, but the Tamil trailer might fail to create the strong impact like the Telugu version because it underwhelming and artificial. Directed by Bala, the film has Megha Choudary as the female lead.

Varma Teaser

Varma is the Tamil version of Telugu romantic film Arjun Reddy. The film marks the debut of Vikram’s son Dhruv as hero.

The theatrical teaser of Varma is out today and the one minute video glimpses some of the prominent scenes from the film without any dialogues. Going by the visuals in the teaser, Varma seems to be a complete rehash of Arjun Reddy with very little changes apart from the cast. Director Bala seems to have reproduced most of scenes in the Telugu version for the Tamil remake.

Dhruv gets a similar makeover like Vijay Devarakonda and almost all scenes showcased in the teaser remind the Telugu version. Only significant change is Dhruv plays hockey in the place football.

Meghana Chowdary is playing the film’s leading lady. Varma is slated for release towards the end of this year.
