Telangana steps up pressure for special package?

Hyderabad: After the long battle of more than two years, residual State of Andhra Pradesh received a special package from the Centre. Now the Telangana is bracing up to fight for its share which was already mentioned in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

Telangana Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Thursday said that he had asked the Centre to grant special package similar to that of Andhra Pradesh. Speaking to media persons after meeting Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi, KTR said that he had apprised the Union Minister that wrong signals would be sent to the people of Telangana if the Centre failed in providing any financial assistance to Telangana.

Centre should implement the promises made in AP Reorganisation Act 2014, KTR demanded. According to the recommendations made by NITI Ayog, total of Rs 24,500 crore should be allocated to the welfare schemes – Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya launched by the Telangana government.

KTR also asked the Centre to allocate Rs 50 crore to each backward district in Telangana for the next five years. The Minister also demanded Hyderabad – Nagpur Industrial Corridors should be set up.

Centre had provided a special development package of Rs 1,50,000 to Andhra Pradesh besides giving several benefits, grants like universities, Central institutions.
