TSPSC’s report fuelled fire on KCR’s one lakh jobs promise

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) report submitted to the Governor ESL Narasimhan last evening has fuelled fire questioning the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s promise of providing one lakh jobs to youth. In the report, Commission Chairman Ghanta Chakrapani claims that it had filled 6,000 vacant posts in the past two years.

This has strengthened the opposition’s accusations that the ruling party failing in meeting its poll promises. During statehood movement, the major issue was unemployed youth would get lakhs of government jobs in a separate state.

Besides 6,000 posts, another 10,000 vacant posts in the police department are being filled by the Telangana Police Recruitment Board now. Thus, the total number of vacant posts filled in various departments by the government so far would not cross the 20,000- mark.

These claims may come in handy for the TJAC and opposition parties to attack the government on its failure to generate government jobs. Taking opportunity, Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS had promised to provide one lakh jobs to the unemployed youth in the state. “But not even 10 per cent of promised vacancies have been filled up so far”, he added.

Despite conduct of examinations by the TSPSC and the Police Recruitment Board, he alleged that the unemployed youth are still waiting for final appointments. However, the government claimed that it has created more than 5 lakh new jobs in the private sector, particularly in IT, ITeS, infrastructure and other fields.

While speaking during a debate on the state industrial policy (TS-iPASS) in the state Assembly last week, IT Minister K T Rama Rao claimed that the state had attracted 2,929 industries with Rs 49,463-crore investments since its formation, and created 1.95 lakh jobs directly and 3 lakh jobs indirectly.
