Vijayawada’s well-known Satavahana College, which served thousands of students for decades, was suddenly demolished at midnight, creating panic and unrest. Students and parents are deeply worried about the future, while political tension is rising in the city.
The demolition has turned into a major controversy, with a serious fight over the college property. The Boyapati group, claiming ownership of the land, brought down the building, while the college management accused them of causing harm to students’ education due to an ongoing civil dispute.
Important college documents and student academic records, especially for software courses, were also reportedly destroyed in the incident.
Police have filed a case and started an investigation. Meanwhile, opposition parties like CPI and CPM strongly protested, accusing the government of allowing land mafias to play with students’ lives. They questioned how such illegal actions could happen in the heart of Vijayawada, and warned that the rest of Andhra Pradesh could be facing similar problems.
TDP leader Bonda Uma visited the demolished site and criticized the overnight action. He questioned why the demolition happened at 2 AM even after court judgments were issued. “This is not how court orders are implemented,” he said, calling it a “midnight injustice.”
Surprisingly, even YSRCP leaders, including Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, criticized the demolition. He questioned why a college that has served thousands for decades had to be torn down in the middle of the night. He also mentioned that a kidnapping was reported recently in connection with the same land dispute.
The college’s secretary and MLC Alapati Rajendra Prasad filed a police complaint, alleging that fake signatures were used to submit documents to the Supreme Court.
Currently, cases have been booked against 10 people involved in the demolition, and the matter is likely to grow further as protests and legal battles, create confusion among students and parents.
