Weather office warns thunderstorms across AP and Telangana

India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its bulletin has given information that thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hailstorm is likely at some places of the country over next three or four days. It says an intense western disturbance currently lying over Iran and neighbourhood would affect Indian sub-continent from 11th onwards. Various States and Regions likely to be affected on various days from tomorrow onwards till coming Monday are :

South India : Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Western Himalayan Region: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
Plains of northwest India :Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi , Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh
Central India :Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha
East India :Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal
North East:Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram &Tripura.

IMD also issued Multi Hazard Weather Warnings as follows:

  • Heavy rain/snowfall at one or two places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh from 11th to 13th. Thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hailstorm also likely at one or two places over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with strong winds and isolated hailstorm over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh from 11th to 13th, over West Rajasthan on 11th & 12th and over East Rajasthan & East Uttar Pradesh on 12th & 13th.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with strong winds and isolated hailstorm over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on 12th & 13th and over Chhattisgarh on 13th & 14th.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hailstorm at one or two places over Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal on 13th-14th.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hailstorm at one or two places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on 14th.

Advisory for Farmers is as follows:

o       Maintain proper drainage channels

o       Postpone irrigation

o       Undertake harvesting of matured crops at the earliest

o       Keep harvested produce in safer place

o       Use hail nets/hail caps to protect from mechanical damage in orchards

o       Keep animals indoor during Thunderstorm/hail hours
