Edge to pre-poll alliance of People’s Front: Hung Assembly

0

The leaders of People’s Front have carefully moved ahead to take full advantage if there is a hung assembly in Telangana. They are referring to the Supreme Court guidelines made with reference to Karnataka stalemate. The court ruled in favour of inviting a pre-poll group or alliance if it emerges the single largest entity.

There is another view that the Governor will have discretionary powers in such a situation. But after the Karnataka instance, the situation had dramatically changed. The JDS and Congress did not form a pre-poll pact but staked claim together which was rejected by the Governor there. So he invited the BJP which emerged the single largest party there.

There were court cases on the Karnataka Governor’s action with the Supreme Court eventually ruling in favour of inviting a pre-poll alliance in such extraordinary circumstances. Keeping these instances in mind, the People’s Front leaders have announced their pre-poll alliance and formulated a Common Minimum Programme which is also submitted to the Election Commission of India. And this information has been also provided to Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan.

With People’s Front taking all precautionary measures, the Governor will find it difficult to use his discretionary powers under the influence of the Centre. If it is going to be a hung assembly, Telangana political scene will see high drama for next couple of days.
