Prabhakar Rao, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and the main accused in the high-profile phone tapping case, has returned to Hyderabad from the US. He landed at Shamshabad Airport and is expected to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning today.
Immigration officials detained him at the airport for nearly four hours before completing formalities. Reports suggest he behaved rudely with media personnel and even created a scene with airport security before leaving for his residence.
Prabhakar Rao, a former Chief of the SIB (State Intelligence Bureau) during the previous government, is accused of illegally tapping the phones of politicians, businessmen, and journalists. After the scandal broke out, he fled to the US.
Following Supreme Court directives, he returned to Hyderabad via Dubai on an Emirates flight. The SIT is now set to interrogate him at their Jubilee Hills office, which was recently shifted from Masab Tank Police Station back to its original location.
The investigation is expected to reveal more details about who ordered the phone tapping and how many individuals were targeted. The SIT will also examine whether other officials were involved in the illegal surveillance.
This case has been a major controversy, and Prabhakar Rao’s questioning could bring crucial new evidence to light.
