Andhra Pradesh Assembly passes the GST bill

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly ratified the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill in a special session on Tuesday becoming the 13th state to pass the bill. After the Assembly commenced for the Special session, YCP introduced adjournment motion which the Speaker Kodela Shivaprasad rejected. The opposition members started protesting, shouting slogans and subsequently gheraoed the Speaker’s podium. YCP did not object GST bill was trying to stall the session seeking minimum support price (MSP) for chilli farmers and demanded setting up a price stabilization fund.

Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, introduced the GST Bill in AP Legislative Assembly amid the chaos. He said that GST will not cause burden to the customer and that it is being implemented around the world. Amidst the slogans of oppositions, speaker allowed debate on the bill.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that the GST will be useful in evading double taxation. He said after the economic reforms, GST is another revolutionary reform. He said the Union government with the slogan “One nation, one tax” has come out with this innovative programme. TDP MLA, Ananda Rao said GST will reduce transport costs.

Apart from the GST bill, Amendments to the Public Service Act to make Ace badminton player P V Sindhu the Deputy Collector was passed. The House was adjourned sine dine.
