Indications are emerging on the possibility of another contentious issue to be raised between TRS and BJP in Telangana. This time the row to be around celebrations of prestigious Osmania University centenary celebration, during last week of April, 2017.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had already invited President Pranab Mukherjee personally, earlier this week, besides Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar for the inaugural function of the centenary celebrations. Two of them have accepted his invitation in principle.

As per protocol norms, generally President and Prime Minister will not be seen at a function together. But now, BJP State unit president K Laxman has written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting him to attend the inaugural function of centenary celebrations. In his letter, he claimed that he had information that the state and OU authorities are officially writing to the PM inviting him.

His claims are surprising the government and questioning that how the University authorities can invites the Prime Minister, after Chief Minister personally get nod from the President to attend the same programme.

“Given the emotional attachment of the people with the university over generations, your participation will reinforce their conviction that Modi government is committed to the state’s development,” Laxman told Modi in his letter.

Most of the BJP leaders in the state, including Dr Lakshman had emerged in the political arena from their student politics of this university, unlike TRS leaders. So, they are seems to be in discontented as the government simply ignoring them and making their own arrangements.

To make their presence felt, BJP and ABVP leaders have floated a forum of `Nationalistic Alumni of Osmania University”, recollecting their emotional attachment with the university and trying to makes their presence felt in the centenary celebrations.
