The working style in Malayalam cinema is completely different when compared to Telugu movies. Right from the budgets to the schedules, everything is quite different. Malayalam actors are not paid big money and the schedules of their films are wrapped up in long schedules on strict working days. When it comes to Tollywood biggies, big planning is involved and there would be schedule delays, reshoots and huge gaps between the schedules. Tollywood directors are roping in Malayalam actors and they are offering big remunerations when compared to their pay in Malayalam.
Actors like Fahadh Faasil are quoting three times more remuneration than what they get for a Malayalam film. Still there are a lot of Telugu scripts reaching actors like Fahadh. After his bitter experience in Pushpa 2: The Rule, Fahadh Faasil has come up with a lot of restrictions. He rejected over a dozen Telugu scripts in the recent months. Recently, Tovino Thomas has walked out of NTR and Prashanth Neel’s Dragon. He admitted that there is a long gap and he could not wait so much to lose his Malayalam films.
Malayalam actors and their presence doesn’t impact the business of Telugu films. There are several talented actors available but our Tollywood directors and producers are keen to rope in Malayalam actors. They are even offering bigger remunerations which really makes no sense as the business calculations will not be increased because of their presence. Though they are paid big money and given enough respect, the Malayalam actors are dropping themselves from Telugu films citing busy schedules and other reasons. It’s high time that our filmmakers consider local actors or introduce new faces instead of rushing for Malayalam actors.
