Filmy Functions : Enough of “emotional” speeches and exaggerated bragging, huh?

For any film buff worth his salt, a simple search on the internet for videos of a certain event always yields results of “emotional” speeches. From the veteran Dasari who mostly claims to be the root cause of every cinematic achievement in the industry – case in point, his speech at MB 40 – to NTR going overboard to thanks his “prekshaka devudlu” to Allu Arjun explaining why he doesn’t want to talk about Pawan Kalyan, we have all begun to get an overdose of emotions which come across as not-so-real most of the time.

Okay, we can bear the emotions. We’ll try. Very hard, actually. Because we love the cine world and the emotions always make great headlines (irrespective of whether they mean it or not) for the media. Yayy!!

But, there’s something else which the people of the filmy world can do away with – the bragging!

Yes, it’s 2016 (almost ending) and our very elaborate film functions haven’t really reached a constructive stage yet. You know the word dabba? Kind of perfect to explain what happens.

The most popular example of the same would be Mohan Babu proudly claiming that his daughter Lakshmi Manchu’s “ferformance” deserves an Oscar. And the most appalling example, the most recent one at that, would be what happened last night at the audio launch of Jaguar with writer-director Vijayendra Prasad going ahead to call the debutant actor Nikhil a “vajram”. Oh, please! And T Subbirami Reddy was singing praises (literally!) at the recent felicitation of Mohan Babu.

You are awesome folks. No, you are awesome. Nooooo, you are the awesome one. Duh! We feel like shouting that none of you are!

How amazing would it be if film functions were less of boasting fests and more of some productive work. One might ask what else we expect? The answer is a wee bit of truthfulness, some interesting nostalgia maybe, meaningful tributes aren’t a bad option either and of course meaningful talk.

Because we all know you all are awesome. But spare us the horror! We don’t want to hear your sea of praises all the time! It’s good to know you are one big happy family (and that you’d have some mutual benefits and some other equations going on) but we really can’t take this nonsensical and exaggerated blowing of each other’s trumpets. Rethink your speech strategy please.
