Guntur medico suicide case: professor hiding in Bengaluru arrested

Guntur: Professor Lakshmi, who is facing charges in the sensational case of PG Medico Sandhya Rani suicide case in Guntur, was on Monday arrested by the police. The professor is on the run soon after she was accused of abetting the medico to commit suicide. However, some reports say that she voluntarily surrendered to the police after the High Court expressed anger over the delay of her arrest. She is expected to be produced before the media tomorrow.

Her close associate of Hari Babu was also taken into police custody for assisting her to escape. Professor Lakshmi escaped Guntur by first catching a flight at Gannavaram airport to Hyderabad and later to Mumbai and reached Bangaluru along with her husband Vijaya Saradhi. She then took shelter at her relative’s house in Bengaluru and finally traced by the police through cell-phone signals.

Medico Sandhya Rani who was studying MBBS in Guntur Medical College, was allegedly harassed and tortured by the professor. She allegedly committed suicide in her room by consuming sleeping pills and left a four-page suicide note. Soon after her death, there was severe uproar from the medical students in the State demanding the arrest of the professor.

Medical student Sandhya Rani’s husband is now battling for life in Miryalaguda after he had committed suicide learning that her wife took the extreme step. Later, a petition is filed by the victim’s parents in the High Court seeking immediate arrest of the professor. Even while she was on the run, a bail petition filed on-behalf of her was rejected by the Sessions Court Guntur. At last, after the High Court showed anger over the delay, the police finally traced her with mobile signals.
