Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham warned chief minister Naidu of serious consequences if the latter tried to scuttle the attempts of Kapus to hold ” Kapu Garjna meeting” in the district this month. Decrying the imposition of restrictions on conducting the meetings in East Godavari district, the former TDP minister and MP announced that the Kapus would hold meeting at any cost to raise their voice against injustice. He dashed off an open letter to the chief minister today to this effect.

The police have issued prohibitory orders under Section 30 of IPC 1861 on holding public meetings in the district from December 31, 2015 to January 31, 2016. According to the district SP Ravi Prakash meetings, rallies and using loud speakers are banned and public are to take permission before holding any public function in the district.

Mudragada, now attached to no party, said Kapus were not like Taliban-type terrorists to be restricted from holding public meetings. ” Do the government grant permission only to your (Naidu’s) caste people to hold meetings? Do you think that others are not entitled to hold public meetings?. Kapus are not Talibans to be prohibited from holding meetings,” he said in the letter and warned that the meeting would take place as scheduled.

Mudragada is fighting for reservations for Kapus under OBC category. He criticized the appointment of a committee by the government in the name of studying the socioeconomic status of Kapus was only a ploy postpone the issue.
