Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu today laid foundation for a massive housing program in the state on the occasion of 125 birth anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Amdedkar at Jakkampudi, in Krishna district. The program envisages building of 10,000 2BHK houses for the poor at this village. This is part of the Naidu’s plan to construct 6 lakh houses at a cost of Rs 16,000 crore.

Addressing the public he assured that all the houses would be constructed in one year. All amenities including internet facility would be provided to these colonies, he said All the houses will be built on 400 sq yard plot under new program called NTR Housing Scheme. Earlier, Congress government implemented the Housing scheme under Indira Awas Yojana, a centrally sponsored scheme.

Stating that none of the houses built during Congress regime was suitable for comfortable living, Naidu said even though 42,000 crore were made available in the past ten years under housing scheme, the Congress government could spend just Rs 12,000 crore.

He said the objective of the 2BHK housing program is to reduce the inequalities in the society which was the cause espoused by Dr Ambedkar. Naidu recalled how NT Ramarao initiated the housing scheme for the poor in 1980s and said the TDP government would carry forward program in such a way that the people lived there with self-respect and dignity.

” Our objective is to give decent and comfortable housing . These colonies will have water supply, roads, drains and power. The occupants should feel proud of living in these houses. Each house cost about Rs 5 lakh. Even though the construction is delayed, the government will ensure that the all the house are completed in every aspect,” he assured.
