GMR Hyderabad International Airport will be investing Rs 6,300 crore to increase the airport’s capacity to 34 million passengers per annum.

This will make Hyderabad Airport larger than Orly Airport Paris, said Antoine Crombez, Deputy CEO, GMR Airports Ltd while addressing Indo-French Investment Conclave 2021 here on Friday.

Last year, GMR Infrastructure Limited (GIL) had announced a strategic partnership with Groupe ADP for its airports business. Groupe ADP’s acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in GMR Airports set a robust industrial partnership.

Meanwhile, French fruit beverages manufacturing company Georges Monin has doubled investment in its upcoming manufacturing plant in Telangana to Rs 200 crore.

The conclave organised by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) to strengthen French investment opportunities in Telangana, saw participation by over 100 CEOs, CXOs and diplomats of France.

The event showcased and promoted existing French investments in the state within its large network and position Telangana as one of the most sought-after investment destinations due to its strategic location, conducive business environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, proactive governance, and favourable ecosystem.

The delegation also visited French companies that are successfully operating in the state such as Safran Aircraft Engines, Mane India and Sanofi Shantha Biotech.

The conclave included several panel discussions focusing on key industries and the official session was attended by Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India, KT Rama Rao, minister for information technology, Telangana, Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, IT department, Telangana, and Sumeet Anand, IFCCI President.

“France and French companies are fully committed to increasing their presence in Telangana and seizing the many opportunities of this thriving, innovation-oriented state. Many French groups have already invested in Telangana, particularly in biotech, IT and aeronautics. These Indo-French business endeavours in key sectors in Telangana also help to strengthen the strategic partnership between our two countries,” said the French ambassador.

He said he was proud that that French companies demonstrated exceptional solidarity with Telangana during the second wave of Covid-19 by contributing to a French-made world-class oxygen generator plant to the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences.

“Telangana is one of the fastest-growing states in the country. Since the formation of the state, the Telangana government has been introducing innovative policies to attract global firms and investments,” said K.T. Rama Rao.

Highlighting the TSiPASS policy, he stated that the Telangana government has been giving approvals for various investment proposals within 15 days. He added that through this policy, the Telangana government has attracted crores of investment to the state and has created lakhs of employment opportunities in the region.

Rama Rao also mentioned that Telangana has been the favorite destination for IT, Aerospace, Life Sciences, and Pharma companies. He noted that Telangana is home to many French companies.

Sumeet Anand, President, IFCCI told the conclave that Telangana has a very healthy investment climate with strong leadership, investor friendly reforms, strong cluster competency in key sectors, innovation and digital acceleration along with increased urbanisation and consumption levels.

Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI said that Telangana is a key state for French investment in India and can already see the strong and successful establishment of companies like Safran, Sanofi, Mane, Monin, Capgemini, among many others.

0

The Centre has assured to speed up the process of setting up of six airstrips in Telangana soon.

At present, Telangana has only one airport at Hyderabad which is GMR International airport at Shamshabad.

In contrast, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has several airports.

Keeping this in view, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during his trip to Delhi in December 2020 met union civil aviation minister and submitted a representation seeking setting up of six airstrips in Telangana state.

As a follow up to this, the union civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on
Saturday (today).

This is against the background of the Telangana government deciding to set up airstrips in six places in the state, at Mamunur in Warangal district, Basant Nagar in Peddapalli district, Adilabad district headquarters, Palwancha in Badradri Kothagudem district, Jakranpalli in Nizamabad district and at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district.

During the meeting, the CM has requested the civil aviation secretary to take steps to expedite the sanction of these airstrips in these six areas. Earlier the state government has already appealed to the Centre in this regard. Union civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola assured the CM that the matter would be taken-up for speedy sanctionof airstrips in the state.

AP Splurges on Foreign Tours of Mantris and Babus

0

Every time chief minister Chandrababu Naidu visits National capital, it is practice to give a representation to the centre with a pathetic plea that the state was rendered bankrupt following division and it is not in a position to pay even the salaries. A couple of months ago media amplified Naidu’s cry for funds by unearthing stories of all that showed how empty were the coffers of the state following the loss of revenue from Hyderabad. Amid this media uproar Naidu would present a charter demands amounting about Rs 1 lakh before the PM Modi, Finance Minister Aurn Jaitley etc. But, the way the Andhra Pradesh dispatching its ministers and officials on foreign trips is mind boggling.

It doesn’t vouch the Naidu’s claim of fund-poverty after bifurcation. The tours are taking in the name of studying investment opportunities, preparing ground for states participation in IT exhibitions, study tours etc. In the past six months, according to a rough estimate based on the GOs issued, more than a dozen minister 50 officials visited foreign countries. These are in addition to the tours by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. State financed these expensive tours at the rate of one a week.

At the time of writing this article the tour of PV Ramesh, Principal secretary, finance, is finalized. He will visit Japan from October 5 for holding discussions on draft MoU between TOYAMA Prefecture and AP government for closer bilateral cultural and trade relations. The officials who visited foreign countries are R.Mutyala Raju n( Chairman and Managing Director, APEPDCL., Visakhapatnam to France from 19-09-2015 to 27-09-2015 to study Efficient Lighting), P.V.S.Ramakrishna, DIG, Intelligence Security Wing, P.H.D.Rama Krishna, IPS (SPS) SP, CI Cell, Intelligence, visit to Washington DC, USA for attending the three day Conference cum Expo at Bethesda, North Mariette Hotel), BSS Prasad (Brazil), J Syamal Rao (Commercial Taxes Commissioner, New Zealand and Australia), a team of officials along with Sumita Dawra, secretary higher education (Singapore)… the list would on unending.

Among the minister, IT minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy has undertaken official tour to US and UK for over 15 days. Similarly, municipal administration minister P Narayana toured Singapore and many countries along with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Now he is planning another trip to Singapore. Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu is now on tour in Australia to study GST and VAT system being followed in that country. The finance minister is a permanent member chief minister Naidu’s team to foreign tours. Nobody knows what the presence of FM served except making “CM delegation”.

HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao last week undertook a tour to Singapore to sign MoU with National University of Singapore for bilateral collaboration between Andhra University and NUS. Housing minister Kimidi Mrunalini returned to Hyderabad yesterday after successful completion of her 10-day tour to China, meant for studying the housing scheme. Forest and environment minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy is going to visit Brazil for the second time in the first week of October to participate in an international conference, which is purely an academic affair.

Industry secretary SS Rawat is a globe trotter in AP government. His position as secretary Industries and commerce, makes him eligible to tour all countries in the name of attracting investment for the new state. He was also part of chief minister’s delegation that visited Singapore, Japan and China.
