Digital rights turn out as a saviour for Amar Akbar Anthony

Srinu Vaitla was once named as one of the top directors of Telugu cinema. However his poor track record left the top director earn nothing for his recent projects. Though he has been paid hefty remuneration for Aagadu and Bruce Lee, Srinu Vaitla had to cut down his pay cheque for Mister. After the film ended up as a dud, Srinu Vaitla had to pay back a part from his remuneration. His recent outing Amar Akbar Anthony too failed to repeat the magic and Srinu Vaitla’s work has been badly criticized.

He has been asked to share the profits from the film and he wrapped up the film on a promised strict budget of Rs 24 crores. Amar Akbar Anthony managed to recover Rs 20 crores through the satellite rights (Telugu and Hindi) and the digital rights (Amazon Prime). The film’s makers Mythri Movie Makers released the film on their own and Srinu Vaitla was promised half of the theatrical share of Amar Akbar Anthony as pay. The film registered poor openings and with the poor word of mouth, Amar Akbar Anthony’s theatrical share will stand close to Rs 6 crores. Hence Srinu Vaitla will take nothing home for the project. The ace director had to pay the salaries of his associates and writers from his pocket informed a close source.

The digital rights of Amar Akbar Anthony turned out to be a saviour else the makers would have lost the entire investment of the film because of the poor show of Amar Akbar Anthony at the box-office.

Want return gifts? Then change Sreenu Vaitla sir.

Sreenu Vytla was very confident about AAA and the entire team went ahead with trust. One big film fails, the entire industry feels the effect. The director in pre release interviews kept thanking the producers for letting them go twice to USA. He pitched for two schedules but was is it really necessary? Sometimes it happens that a director doesn’t get the judgement while shooting but at least after returning and going through the edit, he should know where the film stands. The director should be open to suggestions. The editor has the luxury to question the director and tell him, to add little more detail as the scene is not properly conveyed. The editor of the film is the first person to point out that excessive comedy was turning out to be a hindrance to the story. Also it turned out that the issue is not the comedy but the placement of it became a problem..for example, as to why the hero is coming to Wata. This and some more should have been corrected in the script stage.

Some questions remain unanswered such as why the comedy why a comic scene appears, why the villain come all of a sudden. Also can anyone explain how the hero knows that villain is going for a jog. Why did the scene suddenly open in the park? Actually had we known in the first 15 minutes, that he has a personality disorder, the result of the first half would have been different. Audience were confused seeing hero in three different avatars. We know Amar has been traumatized because of the blast. When he loses his identity, the only guardian is Shinde. Hero adapts Shinde’s traits is presumed and how he became Akbar was not shown. Shinde speaks proper Telugu but the hero speaks in obsolete Urdu used to make spoofs in old movies. Ileana behaves hysterically when she says trust me but that clarity why she behaves and why she suffers from it in childhood wasn’t emphasized. This is a screenplay issue, and by the time it was shown in the second half people lost patience. This is a very important point that needs to be addressed. Somewhere either the editor or the director did not care for it and took the audience for granted.

The same thing if Sukumar treats, it would have been different.. may be like 1 Nenokkadine. There was treatment and detailing in that. Sukumar knows where to magnify and where to be flat, there is coherence in his narrative and consistency in genre. We are taking Sukumar’s reference because of a somewhat identical sub plot. Insertion of comedy, everyone has a different style but ultimately it should blend into the story. Here comedy did not blend into the revenge subject.

Even in Dhookudu Mahesh had 3 variations in character that of a cop, son, reality show organiser and all blended well. The spoofs were organic in that movie and we wonder why the same director who dished out entertainments went missing with his magic. He shouldn’t have insisted on Ileana, any other girl would have filled her place and occupied half her space…. considering that people in Telugu states loved her only for her hour glass figure. Vaitla’s graph has come down but it isn’t over yet, he needs to do some soul searching and come back to reality. Most people who work with him and have worked with him earlier say that his planning is unrealistic and seldom is open to suggestions. When someone points out a loophole or comes up with an observation, he skips the topic and moves onto the next. He also takes names of certain directors who are into re shoots and stresses he is not like them. I am very experienced he says to every well wisher who wishes to correct him. It is sad that he has used all his chances to stay in the hierarchy; Mytri gave him a long rope but he cheated not only them but himself too by not working on the script. It is difficult to overlook a remark…that his personality is turning out to be a perfect comedy and if he doesn’t change someone else will make a spoof of him.

Ileana pocketed a solid paycheck for AAA

    0

Actress Ileana, who was away from limelight due to her Bollywood commitments, returned to Tollywood with Sreenu Vaitla’s latest offering Amar Akbar Anthony. Despite taking a brief break, she managed to grab the attention of Telugu audience with her glamorous avatar in teasers and trailers of AAA.

It is learnt that Ileana pocketed around 1.5 Crores remuneration to share screen space with Ravi Teja in this film. Her remuneration is on par with star heroines who are currently ruling on the roost in South India. Sources say that Sreenu Vaitla wanted to cast Ileana and approached her with the script. Though she was not interested to return to Tollywood, Mythri Movie Makers have offered her a hefty remuneration and cleared all her demands to make her sign the project. Reportedly, the production house has spent around 25 lakhs for her expenses while working for this project.

As she put on awkward weight, the team was forced to use CG for majority of her scenes to make her appear slimmer on screen. With AAA opening to disaster reports, Ileana might find it difficult to bag crazy offers in Tollywood from here on.

Amar Akbar Anthony Review – Dissociative Directorial Disorder

Amar Akbar Anthony 2018 Review Rating

    Telugu360 Rating 2.25/5

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja joined hands with Sreenu Vaitla for the fourth time and he is playing a triple role for the first time in his career. Titled as Amar Akbar Anthony, the film has Ileana as the female lead. Majority of the film’s shoot happened in USA.

Can Ravi Teja and Sreenu Vaitla bounce back with AAA ? Let’s find out.

    Story:

Amar Akbar Anthony is a revenge drama based on ‘Dissociative identity disorder’. In 2003, Two Indian families, from New York City get killed by their business partners. The victims’ family members Amar (Raviteja), Aishu (Ileana) attempt to take revenge on the culprits – however both Amar / Aishu have dissociative identity disorder. Rest of the story is how Amar takes revenge overcoming his disorder.

    Analysis:

Multiple personality disorder-based crime genre film is good to have with an upcoming star or small heroes. Attempting this serious film with Raviteja, who is known for his entertainment, is an experiment but unfortunately did not work out. Especially when the man behind the film Srinu Vaitla, audience would expect decent entertainment – if not a laugh riot. The film takes off in New York city on large canvas and up until 2003story isnarrated, the backdrop appears somewhat different. After being shifted to present day, the three main characters Amar, Akbar and Anthony may confuse audience rather than generate curiosity in first half. There is only one duet in first half which lowers further the commercial side of the film.

The comedy track written on Telugu Organizations in USA has srinu vaitla mark on it, but did not click much. Especially audience in India may not comprehend the fun about those Telugu organization leaders. Comedian Satya character as Jr. K.A. Paul irritates.

Second half opens in a bit interesting manner as the flashback is narrated. This part is better compared to rest of the film. However, after the flashback ends, movie graph goes down even more. Comedian Sunil is bit of an exception but sadly he couldn’t rescue. Last song came out well on screen. Production values by Mythri movie makers are very good and entire film has been shot in USA.

    Performances:

The usually energetic Raviteja looks quite pale in this film. Because of the characterization, he has to appear passive throught the film – which disappoints his fans. Ileana is not attractive anymore as heroine and a misfit for Aishu / Pooja role. Sayaji Shinde got a good lengthy role in this film. There are numerous villains in this film – not much to rave about them though.

    Technical:

S.S. Thaman’s songs are disappointing except last one. Cinematography by Venkat Dileep C. is fine, he is able to capture many USA locations well. The visuals appear grand in many scenes. Many american technicians worked as stunt coordinators but the whole effort is not backed by the script.:

    Positives :

    • Good production values
    • Different backdrop to the story

    Negatives :

    • Lack of entertainment
    • Poor revenge plot
    • Songs and commercial elements are a miss

    Verdict:

‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ is yet another disappointing film from Srinu Vaitla. Contrary to his strength – comedy, the director has attempted a serious film with mass star Raviteja and seems to be paid price. This serious natured revenge drama may find it difficult to survive at the Box-office.

    What’s wrong Srinu Vaitla?

    0

Srinu Vaitla was once one of the top directors of Telugu cinema. Known for his sensible comic timing, Srinu Vaitla managed to mix commercial elements and entertainment in the right amounts. Films like Venky, Dhee, Ready, Dookudu and Baadshah ended up as massive hits in his career. Soon films like Aagadu, Bruce Lee and Mister pulled him down in the race. It is then Srinu Vaitla was knocked by the one last opportunity Amar Akbar Anthony. He was well aware that he needs to bounce back for sure.

But surprisingly, the film is named as the biggest disasters ever in his career. Srinu Vaitla has been badly criticized for his work. Right from the plot, screenplay, songs and direction, nothing worked out for Amar Akbar Anthony. The makers invested huge amount believing that Srinu Vaitla will bounce back with a bang. But instead, Srinu Vaitla proved that he is outdated enough and unfit to direct films anymore in Tollywood.

The biggest surprise for the audience is the crappy entertainment that is written with enough laziness. The outdated comedy tracks will irritate the audience big time throughout the film. Mythri Movie Makers will lose each and every penny invested on this project. With the result of Amar Akbar Anthony, Srinu Vaitla will find it real tough to find a producer and a lead actor for his next. Hope he doesn’t find one in the coming days and moves away from Telugu cinema.

    – A fan of Srinu Vaitla (not interested to be named).

AAA : Can they get back to success ways ?

Amar Akbar Anthony, which has Ravi Teja in the lead role and Sreenu Vaitla as director, is set for release this Friday. Mythri Movie Makers is the production house behind this entertainer. Ileana is making a comeback to Tollywood after a brief hiatus with this film.

Interestingly, the box office result of Amar Akbar Anthony is very crucial for the lead pair, the director and the production house. Ravi Teja is struggling to score a decent hit from a long time. His recent films couldn’t resonate with audience and failed to make a mark at box office. He is playing a triple role for the first time in his career. Teasers and trailers revealed that he is back in elements with good energy levels and comic timing.

Ileana is desperate to revive her career in Tollywood. She was off the limelight for quite some time. She now wants to start her second innings in style with a decent hit. Her glam quotient will be an added advantage for AAA.

Director Sreenu Vaitla wants to reclaim his mojo with AAA. Known for churning out full length entertainers, Vaitla has lost touch with back to back debacles. He is now coming up with a different attempt keeping his comedy forte intact. He is very confident of making a strong comeback with this film.

On the other side, star production house Mythri Movie Makers is aiming to get back to success track after a small blip in their streak of hits with Naga Chaitanya’s Savyasachi. They are ensuring that AAA get good publicity with aggressive promotions. The openings and the first weekend run is going to be very crucial for AAA. Let’s wait and see if the film gives the much needed hit to all of them.

Never quit Telugu industry for Bollywood, says Ileana D’Cruz

    0

Actress Ileana D’Cruz, who has made a comeback to the Telugu industry after six years with the forthcoming film “Amar Akbar Anthony”, says she never quit her career in the south to build one in Bollywood.

In a group interaction, she told IANS that it wasn’t a conscious decision to move away from Telugu filmdom.

“People have always had misconceptions about my career. After I signed “Barfi”, I was shocked to read reports that I have quit Telugu cinema for Bollywood. These were baseless allegations and it’s time to put them to rest. Why will I give up an industry which has given me an identity,” Ileana asked.

In 2012, she made her Bollywood debut with Ranbir Kapoor’s “Barfi!”, which was followed by films such as “Phata Poster Nikla Hero”, “Happy Ending”, “Rustom”, “Baadshaho” and “Raid”.

“When I was shooting for ‘Julayi’, I got an offer to work in ‘Barfi!’. It was a project with an interesting story and I didn’t want to miss. I even consulted exploring the opportunity with director Trivikram and he was very happy for me. Even without knowing anything about my role, he pushed me to accept the offer,” she said, adding she got so busy in Bollywood post “Barfi!”, she had to miss out on several Telugu offers.

“It’s just that I was getting really good work in Bollywood that I didn’t have time for Telugu films. Also, after a point I was being approached for dance numbers by Telugu filmmakers and I was not excited about these offers. Therefore, I waited for the right film to return and that’s how ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ happened,” she clarified.

In Sreenu Vaitla directed “Amar Akbar Anthony”, Ileana has teamed up with Ravi Teja for the fourth time.

Talking about the project, she said: “There couldn’t have been a better Telugu film to make a comeback. It has all the ingredients to be your regular commercial potboiler and has a wonderful story. For the first time, I’ve played a complex role with many layers. I’ve also dubbed in my own voice in Telugu.”

Ileana says she wants to do films that will be remembered for a long time.

“I started my career when I was 20 and over the years have done all kinds of films. Now I’m 32, and there is remarkable change in my thought process and personality. I have been making some sensible choices and I want it to reflect in the films I do. I want to be part of films that will be remembered for a long time,” she said.

As the conversation veered towards her personal life and relationship status, she said she’s in a happy space.

“I have evolved as a person and I’m neither pregnant nor married. After coping with depression, I have become mentally strong. My working relationship with people has also changed for good. I know I’m happy with my relationship status and I’d like to keep it that way,” she added.

Asked to comment on the #MeToo movement and how it has gained momentum, she said that it’s time to break the silence.

“I am glad women are opening up even though we know it’s very scary. Small things can make a lot of difference and this is a good start,” she said, refusing to talk about her personal experiences. “It’s best if we don’t go there. When I want to talk about it, I will.”

Mythri’s intelligent move for Amar Akbar Anthony

    0

Mythri Movie Makers emerged as a top production house after three back to back blockbusters Srimanthudu, Janatha Garage and Rangasthalam. They tasted a disaster with Naga Chaitanya’s Savyasachi and the buyers lost huge money betting big on the project despite of Chaitu’s career running low. The makers of the film have been badly criticized for investing huge on Savyasachi. Mythri Movie Makers stepped out to control the damage.

Their next production Amar Akbar Anthony starring Ravi Teja and Ileana has been announced for November 16th release. The film directed by Srinu Vaitla has been carrying low buzz because of the poor track record of Ravi Teja and Srinu Vaitla. Mythri Movie Makers decided not to trouble the buyers and decided to offer the film for low prices to compensate the losses of Savyasachi.

The makers pocketed enough through the satellite, digital and Hindi satellite rights of Amar Akbar Anthony and hence they decided to offer the theatrical rights for minimal prices (Some of the areas are offered for free without even taking any advance amounts). This is sure an interesting move as they are not in a mood to add one more debacle to their account.

If a top production house has a bunch of films lined up, they generally do not offer films for free or for less quotes. But Mythri Movie Makers stepped out with an initiative considering their buyers in mind.

Can Ileana make an impact with her comeback film ?

    0

Dusky beauty Ileana ruled the roost in Tollywood in the initial days of her career. She paired up with almost all star heroes of the present generation and grabbed the eyeballs with glam roles in several hit films. Later, she set sights on Bollywood and bagged a few plump offers there. However, she couldn’t have a long career in Bollywood due to stiff competition.

Now, the ‘Devadasu’ star is making a comeback to Tollywood after a brief hiatus. She is essaying the lead role in Sreenu Vaitla’s upcoming film Amar Akbar Anthony which has Ravi Teja as the protagonist. Once a svelte beauty, Ileana is now stunned everyone with her roly-poly appearance. She is looking elegant and gorgeous in teasers and trailers of AAA. Sources say that Sreenu Vaitla has penned a substantial role for Ileana.

The question is whether Ileana can make a noticeable impact in AAA and regain her glory in Tollywood. If she manages to impress with her role, there is a good chance she could start her second innings in style in Tollywood.
