TDP opens website to campaign on Jagan’s liquor brands

0

The opposition TDP had launched a new website in the state to campaign against the liquor policy and brands of the present government. TDP leaders Nakka Ananda Babu, P Ashok Babu and Achanta Sunitha launched the website at the party office on Saturday.

The new portal – www.killerjbrands.com – would receive complaints from the people on the liquor related issues and the brands. The portal would also campaign on the availability of illicit liquor in the state, besides smuggling. It would focus on the liquor related deaths in the state, the TDP leaders said.

The portal would encourage people to lodge complaints against the liquor related issues in their area which included the functioning of the liquor outlets and bars.

The TDP leaders alleged that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was receiving huge funds from the liquor manufacturers. The government was engaged in the liquor business from manufacturing stage to the retail sales in the outlets.

The TDP leaders also alleged that the ruling party leaders were encouraging smuggling of liquor in the state, particularly from the neighbouring states into the border districts. The illicit liquor brewing and sales too is carried out with the support and involvement of the ruling party leaders, the TDP leaders alleged.

The party said that it would lead a digital campaign on the liquor issues through the website until the government changed its liquor policy and stopped the liquor deaths in the state.

Liquor war in AP – TDP, YCP blame each other

1

The state is witnessing a war of words between the opposition TDP and ruling YSR Congress these days. The war is on liquor brands that are available in Andhra Pradesh, ever since Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power in May 2019.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, general secretary Nara Lokesh, senior leaders Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy, Yanamala Ramakrishnudul, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary have alleged that all J (Jagan) brands of liquor are available in the state. They said that all brands are cheap liquor and dangerous.

The TDP leaders also demanded that the government release white paper on liquor revenue in the state. The TDP leaders say that the liquor brands available or sold by the government liquor shops are harmful and dangerous.

However, in return, the ruling YSR Congress released the GOs and the permission letters issued by the TDP government for all these brands. YSR Congress MLA and former minister K P Saradhi said that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government did not give permission even to a single brand of liquor in the last three years.

He said all the liquor brands available in the state were given permission by Chandrababu Naidu as chief minister. He said the present government had extended the licenses of some of these brands due to covid 19 restrictions.

The YSR Congress MLA also alleged that these brands are produced by the distilleries which are owned by the TDP leaders, Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, SPY Reddy, Adikesavulu Naidu and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu’s relatives.

Saradhi also released the copies of the permissions issued by the excise department.

Telangana extends liquor timings for New Year celebrations

0

At a time when several states imposed night curfew and other restrictions in view of threat posed by Omicron, the Telangana government has decided to extend timings for bars, pubs and liquor shops on New Year’s Eve.

The state government on Tuesday issued an order, allowing Director, Prohibition and Excise Department to permit license holders of bars, licensees of event permit managements, and in-house licensees of Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) to serve liquor up to 1 a.m. on the intervening night of December 31, 2021 and January 1, 2022.

Relaxing the rules, the government also allowed liquor shops to sell liquor till 12 midnight of December 31 on the eve of New Year celebrations.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar issued an order to this effect. This comes at a time when states like Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh imposed restrictions including night curfew in view of Covid-19 situation.

Telangana on Tuesday reported seven new Omicron cases including three who had no travel history. The new cases pushed the state’s tally of the new variant of Covid-19 to 62.

Earlier, Health Minister T. Harish Rao sought to justify the government not imposing restrictions in view of the low positivity rate.

He said the Centre advised only those states who have 10 per cent or higher Covid positivity rate to impose curbs. “Our positivity rate is only 0.6 per cent and in fact it has come down compared to last week,” he said.

The state government on December 25 issues orders banning rallies and public meetings in the state till January 2. The orders were issued following the direction of the Telangana High Court to imposing curbs on public gatherings. However, the state has not banned New Year celebrations.

The High Court on December 23 had directed the state government to impose curbs during festivals and New Year celebrations in view of Omicron.

AP to Roll Out New Liquor Policy

0

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ndhra Pradesh Government is all set to release liquor policy today. In a note released to the press, the government has said that it decided to handle at least 10 per cent of liquor shops while 90 per cent will be handled by the liquor vendors who obtained licences.  The government, however, didn’t release the list of liquor shop owners. In its new liquor policy, liquor vendors will be refrained from the use of names pertaining to religious figures and Gods.

[pullquote position=”left”] Hailing Chandrababu Naidu, Balakrishna has stressed that only Babu has the capacity to run the efficient government. [/pullquote]

It is known that there were severe objections from the public over the use of Goddesses names and photos on liquor shops. On noticing the same, the government came out with this stringent regulations, said sources close to the officials. Meanwhile, TDP MLA Balakrishna has drawn curtains on the speculations. He put an end to the rumours that were rife over the change of chief minister and that Balakrishna would become the next Panneerselvam in Andhra Pradesh, given the ongoing infamous cash-for-vote scam that allegedly kept Babu in bad light.

Hailing Chandrababu Naidu, Balakrishna has stressed that only Babu has the capacity to run the efficient government. He was, however, tightlipped on the liquor policy as it’s known how his father, the then chief minister N.T. Rama Rao became a Godly figure amongst households for having banned liquor in Andhra Pradesh during his tenure.

Even KCR, who apparently idolised NTR, is bringing in new liquor policies in Telangana state that are undoubtedly objectionable to households. All in all, it looks like Telugu chief ministers are more concerned over the revenue generated by liquor shops.
