Who will play Balayya in NTR biopic ?

Yesterday, it was officially confirmed that filmmaker Teja will direct the biopic of iconic Telugu superstar NTR. Nandamuri Balakrishna will be one of the producers for this biopic which is expected to go on floors early next year.

Besides producing, Balakrishna will don the grease paint to reprise the role of his father NTR in this biopic. So, there are no more speculations about NTR’s role.

Now, the suspense is on who is going to play Balakrishna’s role in this biopic ? It is learnt that Balakrishna is in plans to introduce his son Nandamuri Mokshagna to Telugu audience with this prestigious film. If everything goes as per plans, Mokshagna might reprise the role of Balakrishna in the film. If not, Balakrishna himself might play dual roles and appear in his very own role besides playing his father in the film.

Close sources revealed that it is up to Balakrishna to take a decision on this. So, we have to wait for a few more days to end the suspense on who will step into the shoes of NTR son’s role in this much awaited biopic.

MM Keeravani has been roped in to compose the tunes for this film.

Soon after wrapping Puri Jagganadh’s Paisa Vasool, Nandamuri Balakrishna commenced shooting for his next project which is being directed by KS Ravi Kumar. The film has Nayanatara and Natasha Doshi as the female leads.

After shooting for a few weeks in Hyderabad, the unit has now moved to Tamil Nadu to shoot in temple town, Kumbakonam where key scenes featuring the principal cast are being shot. The current schedule will last for a month and the makers are planning to wrap up majority of talkie part in this schedule.

Produced by C.Kalyan, the film has its music score by Chiranthan Bhatt. The untitled film is scheduled for early next year release.

NBK locks director for Mokshagna’s debut ?

Another star kid’s entry is on the anvil. He is none other than Nandamuri Balakrishna’s son, Mokshagna. The star kid was supposed to make his silver screen debut with his father’s film in Singeetham Srinivas direction. But, the project didn’t go beyond discussion stages. Later, he worked as an assistant director for Gauthamiputra Satakarni.

As fans are eagerly awaiting his debut, Balakrishna today, on the eve of Mokshagna’s birthday ,has confirmed that the film will go on floors next year. Reports suggest that Balakrishna has been considering one among Boyapati Srinu and Krishh as the favourites to helm the project.

According to the latest buzz in the industry circles, Balakrishna has locked Krishh to handle the prestigious debut film of the third generation Nandamuri lad. Both Krishh and NBK worked for the latter’s landmark 100th film, Gauthamiputra Satakarni. Impressed with his work, NBK has requested the director to come up with an apt script that will do justice to his son’s dream debut. Sources close to NBK say that Krishh is currently working on the script and is the forerunner to handle this much awaited film.

However, we have to wait for an official confirmation to end the ongoing speculations.

Package deals to Directors – The peril to TFI.

‘Package Deal’ – this is the term exploited the most by once-top directors. When these directors hit rough patch, they can’t command the remuneration they used to get in their hey days. In such scenarios, instead of slashing their remuneration, they opt for ‘package deals’, which is proving to be an insidious trend.

Take the case of Puri Jagannath-Balayya’s ‘Paisa Vasool’. The director was allotted Rs 35 budget (including remunerations and excluding publicity) to wrap up the film. Puri wasn’t given a fixed remuneration, and his total pay would be as much as he could save from those 35 Cr.

The makers boasted of wrapping up the film in 78 working days. Finishing a top hero’s film in such short time is a feat that no one but only Puri can accomplish. Movie lovers may think it is because of Puri’s jet speed of film making but those who understand the intricacies of film making, know very well that the accomplishment is a result of director having his eye on money only.

Puri is an expert in utilizing package deals. In Paisa Vasool, except Shriya and Ali, there were no other big names. Even the crew wasn’t much demanding. Three songs were canned in the sets only. The unit filmed only chasing sequences and fights in Portugal, which was done over a period of 40 days. And, the entire remaining film was shot over less than 40 days in sets in Hyderabad. No wonder audiences were shocked at the film’s quality.

Buzz in film cirlces is that Puri took away home no less than Rs 10 crore with Paisa Vasool. In such case, ‘Paisa Vasool’ title is more apt to the director than the film. The producer isn’t complaining as he recovered his investment in the form of film’s decent pre-release business. We need to wait for a few more days to see whether distributors can Vasool their Paisa.

Before getting the nod of Balayya for Paisa Vasool, director Puri Jagannath faced two big rejections, from Megastar Chiranjeevi and NTR Jr. After watching Paisa Vasool, movie lovers say that the senior Mega hero and junior Nandamuri hero were perfectly correct in turning down the mediocre script narrated by Puri. It is heard that Paisa Vasool is the same script that the ‘Pokiri’ maker had narrated to Chiru and NTR.

It may be recalled that before locking Katthi remake, Puri’s ‘Auto Jaani’ was announced as Megastar Chiranjeevi’s comeback film. The project however was called off, and Chiru himself revealed in an interview that he wasn’t satisfied with the second half narrated by Puri.

After the success of ‘Temper’, NTR gave his word to Puri to work with him in another film. Honoring his word, NTR held rounds of discussions with Puri after Janatha Garage. The director however couldn’t convince the actor with his scripts, the subject of ‘Paisa Vasool’ was one of them.

Balayya on the other hand gave his nod to Puri even without listening to the story. He was so impressed by the hero’s characterization that he didn’t bother about the story, which is a rehash of Puri’s earlier movies, mainly ‘Pokiri’.

Now, as ‘Paisa Vasool’ is in theatres, people can understand why the story was rejected by Chiru and NTR.

We need to wait for a few more days to find out if Balakrishna Nandamuri and Puri Jagannath’s ‘Paisal Vasool’ will justify its title and make the Producer and all buyers happy. Meanwhile, we have information that the action entertainer is a true ‘Paisa Vasool’ film for both the senior Nandamuri hero and the crazy director.

The total budget of Paisa Vasool is 35 Cr. Of it, Puri took 10 Cr as his fee for providing story, screenplay and direction. The fact that Puri wraps up films at jet speed, incurring very reasonable production cost, might also have convinced producers to shell out this huge amount. Actress Charmee, who is a partner in Puri Connects, was paid Rs 1 Cr for her services. Both Kyra Dutt and Muskan Sethi were supplied by Puri Connects.

Balayya usually charges 5 Cr for a film. However, he was paid Rs 10 Cr remuneration for Paisa Vasool. This is the highest remuneration he has ever taken for a film. Since the film’s producers, Bhavya Creations, have interests in different businesses, and as they seek the support of Andhra Pradesh govt. they didn’t mind paying the double the remuneration to Balayya, who is an MLA and a close aide and relative of CM Chandrababu Naidu. Another reason could be Balayya’s commitment. It was heard earlier that despite Puri wanted to produce Paisa Vasool, Balayya gave the film to Bhavya Creations honoring his word given to the producer a couple of years ago.

On the whole, both Balayya and Puri themselves pocketed 55-60 percent of the film’s total budget.

Versatile director Boyapati Sreenu is all set for his next outing Jaya Janaki Nayaka. He is directing Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas in the film and he revealed that he kept his promise of directing the youngster. On Sunday, the makers unveiled a video featuring Balakrishna performing the risky car stunt.

Actress Shriya Saran was also part of the scene and is seen with him in the video.

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, “Paisa Vasool” marks his first time collaboration with Balakrishna.

Produced by Bhavya Creations, the film is gearing up for September 1 release.

The film’s teaser was released last month and going by it, the film looks like an out-and-out masala entertainer.
