From government advisor to youtuber

2

Remember Parakala Prabhakar? Know what he is doing these days? He was AP government’s advisor while Chandrababu was at the helm. Later, he fell out with Chandrababu and resigned from that position. He then got active in his PR and content-related company Right Folio. For some time, he hogged headlines by slamming the economic policies of his wife and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. But, Nirmala simply ignored him.

His latest avatar is that of a video blogger. He is now busy as a youtuber. He is making videos on various issues, including Indian economy and its handling by Union Finance Minister. The channel, which goes by the name ‘Parakala Prabhakar’ has a special edition called Mid-week musings, which talks about Indian economy. Though some of his recent videos appear to laud some of Modi’s decisions, the sarcasm and the disdain are very clear.

Interestingly, he is not commenting on what AP and Telangana governments are doing. Though there are several issues that need to be commented upon, he appears to be diffident about touching them. Or is he not touching these issues due to professional ethics and integrity? Well! One does not know. But the fact is most of the videos target the Modi government. As of now, the videos are getting lukewarm response. But, given their content, they are likely to become hugely popular by 2024, when the nation goes to polls again.

Parakala, an alumnus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, began dabbling in politics by getting elected on NSUI ticket. Then he left Indian shores to pursue higher academics. On his return to India, he became closer to the BJP school of thought and was the BJP spokesperson for undivided AP. He later became the bitterest opponent of Telangana and rooted for a united AP. His wife Nirmala Sitharaman, joined the BJP very late, but her growth in the party was faster. Parakala then became AP government’s advisor under Chandrababu.

Parakala Prabhakar chairman of Maha News!

0

AP Government former Media Advisor Parakala Prabhakar has taken over as the chairman of Maha News Telugu channel. He has taken up the task of breathing new life into the channel which is lagging far behind competitors. Prabhakar is also husband of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman. He played an active role as media advisor in the first four years of Chandrababu regime. Prabhakar was continued as advisor for some more time even though the TDP had got differences with the BJP in the last two years of its rule. At that time, Jaganmohan Reddy targetted continuation of Parakala which eventually led to his dropping out of Naidu team.

Since then, Prabhakar was busy with his own projects without getting involved in politics. But now, Union Minister Sujana Chowdary once again took ownership of Maha News and began efforts to develop it. He also wants to get good coverage for BJP activities in Telugu states. In the last few years, Maha News changed many hands. At one time, Rajinikant joined and left the channel as it did not pick up considerably. Now, Sujana is keen to make available enough funds to bring Maha News back into mainstream. As part of this, he has brought Parakala to head the channel team. So, BJP too will be having its own dedicated channel now on.

Parakala’s exit: Was it Naidu’s option?

0

The resignation of Parakala Prabhakar as the Andhra Pradesh government’s media advisor is being widely debated in the State, particularly in the political circles. Though Parakala had cited his family connections with the BJP as the reason for his exit and blamed Opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy for taking his family into controversy, there is said to be much more that led to the final exit.

It is widely said that Chief Minister Chandrbaabu Naidu had kept Parakala at distance for some time holding him responsible for the flaws in the TDP-BJP relationship. Chandrababu Naidu, thought that Parakala would be of great help to him in building relationship with the BJP, particularly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The reason is Parakala’s wife Nirmala Sitaraman in the Modi cabinet, playing an important role. The TDP chief though that Parakala would at least help him in getting interview of the Prime Minister. But, nothing could materialise and Chandrababu Naidu’s 29 visits to the national capital did not help him get things done by the BJP government at the Centre.

Chandrababu Naidu is a clear strategist when it comes to politics. He accounts the advantages for him and his party more than anything, when he relates himself with anyone. So, when he found Parakala a spent force, he kept him aside and brought in a corporate man, Arora, as advisor. This had upset Parakala Prabhakar, who has been maintaining low profile for the past three months.

The inside sources say that Parakala was waiting for an opportunity to come out of the government’s post and that had come in the form of Jaganmohan Reddy’s criticism. But, the big question that even the bureaucrats at the Velagapudi secretariat ask each other is why did Parakala praise Chandrababu Naidu so high?

Even before sending his papers on Tuesday evening, it is clear that Parakala had a meeting with Chief Minister in the previous evening at the Secretariat. The two have discussed the political developments first and then finding a safe exit to Parakala from the office of the media advisor. It was how the two-page script of resignation letter came out a few hours later.

Chandrababu Naidu is a well-crafted politician who knows how to cut the sixth finger. He had done it in the case of NTR, Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, Nandamuri Harikrishna and several others in the past and Parakala is certainly not the last one.

Parakala discounts Justice Katju’s remarks on social media arrests

0

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh government advisor Dr Parakala Prabhakar took strong exception to the remarks of Supreme Court retired judge Justice Markandeya Katju on the arrests of social media activists by the police. Justice Katju had recommended dismissal of the Chandrababu Naidu government for the arrest of people for making comments against the government in the social media. The retired judge also demanded imposition of President rule in the State.

Reacting to the demands, Dr Prabhakar said that the comments in the social media have crossed the limit and have become derogatory. The social media activists have presented half-naked photographs, caricatures of the leaders, particularly women causing personal damage to them. Stating that Justice Katju had earlier made controversial remarks and had apologized later, he felt that the comment against Chandrababu Naidu government too was similar and not to be taken seriously.

He said that the government was ready to take constructive criticism from the people and the Opposition parties too. He recalled that the Chief Minister himself had wanted people to react on various issues and give constructive suggestions. However, the comments made by some of the people, including those who were arrested, were in violation of the right to freedom of expression.

Dr Prabhakar ridiculed the charge of YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against the government on the arrest of social media activists Inturi Ravi Kiran and Ippala Ravindra Reddy and said that the posts of these two persons in the social media were derogatory and insulting. He said that the two persons have posted caricatures and cartoons damaging the personal character to legislator V Anitha resulting in their arrests and the subsequent release on bail.
