KTR meets Rajnath Singh, seeks transfer of defence lands in Hyderabad

0

Telangana’s Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and requested him to transfert certain defence lands in Hyderabad to the state government for development of skyways and other various infrastructure projects.

After the meeting, Rama Rao said the state government had requested the Centre for transfer of lands for developing skyways. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the request but there was no response.

“Defence Ministers are changing but there is no change in the stand of the Central government,” said KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known.

The state minister told media persons that the state government had been requesting the Centre to transfer defence lands for construction of skyways from Jubilee Bus Stand to Rajiv Rahdari, from Paradise Circle to Medchal ORR. He said he met Rajnath Singh to make a request once again.

KTR said that if the Defence Ministry comes forward to give 96 acres of land for Jubilee Bus Stand-Rajiv Rahadari skyway and 56 acres for Paradise Circle-Medchal ORR skyway, the state government would give alternate lands of equal value.

He said the state government was also developing skywalks. While the skywalk at Uppal has been completed, the work on the skyway at Mehdipatnam was stalled as the Defence Ministry had not given the permission.

The state has also sought defence land for a road to link Golconda and Ibrahim Bagh. It also demanded transfer of unused defence lands in Secunderabad Cantonment to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) so that hospitals and community halls can be constructed for local people.

KTR said he would meet Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday to once again request approval for extending Metro Rail from Lakdi Ka Pul to BHEL and from Nagole to LB Nagar.

He said the state government submitted DPRs to the Centre several times. The minister said while the state government has provided funds towards its share in MMTS, there was no response from the Centre.

He claimed that the state government completed several works under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) but the work at Rasoolpura could not be completed as the Union Home Ministry had to transfer 3-4 acres of land. He said he would try to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah over this issue.

KTR said that he wants the Centre to support the state government’s efforts to strengthen public transport system in Hyderabad

He demanded that the Centre also approve extension of Metro Rail from Patancheru to Hayat Nagar.

Stating that Telangana received no support from the Centre for nine years, the BRS leader said that it appears that the Centre may continue its discrimination towards the state. KTR made it clear that if there is no change in the Centre’s approach, the BRS would take this issue to the people.

He questioned the Centre when it can sanction Metro Rail to 10 small cities in Uttar Pradesh, why can’t it cooperate with Telangana for extending Metro in Hyderabad. He also wanted to know why the Centre, which provided no funds for Hyderabad during floods, extended the assistance for flood relief in Gujarat and other BJP-ruled states.

KTR reminded BJP that there are Telangana funds in the development of poor states ruled by it. He said the BJP leaders should thank Telangana people and the government for their contribution in the national development.

TDP changed strategy after Home minister Rajnath’s phone to CBN

0

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is planning to start fight against the Center on the injustice done to the state in the recent budget, received phone call from Home minister. Reportedly, Rajnath told – “We understand your concern. Amit Shah will talk to you regarding this. Don’t take any hasty decision.” After this phone call, TDP changed the strategy on how to deal with BJP party and central government.

Earlier, Chandrababu asked MPs to fight in Parliament and voice the injustice done to the state. TDP MPs also expressed their consent. Some of them even proposed TDP MPs to resign to their ministries at center. They reminded that people waited almost four years but still NDA government is not granting anything to AP despite TDP being their ally in NDA. Union minister Sujana Chowdary was also among the attendees in this meeting, though another minister Ashok Gajapati Raju couldn’t join. So CBN and MPs decided to voice out in parliament and outside the parliament and express their dissatisfaction on BJP’s treatment to AP state. But all this strategy got changed after phone call from Rajnath to CBN.

After the phone call from Rajnath Singh, CBN changed the strategy and directed the party MPs to first discuss with the Center regarding allocations made to the state. After those discussions, depending on the response from NDA, TDP will decide whether to continue the alliance or whether to come out of NDA.

Did Rajnath Singh forget BJP is fighting against TRS?

0

Telangana Liberation Day Sankalpa Sabha was held by Bharatiya Janata Party in Nizambad on Sunday wherein Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the gathering. He showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and spoke of New-India 2022, Indo-Pak relationship among many other initiatives by the BJP led NDA government.

Remarkably, the Union Minister did not utter a single word against the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He critiqued Congress and spoke of the scams that took place under the reign of the grand old party. Only the state leaders deplored the KCR government’s indifferent attitude in celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day.

Rajanth did not take cue from TRS MP D Srinivas’s son Arvind joining BJP in his presence. While Arvind and other state BJP leaders are devising strategies to go severely against the ruling party, the centre obviously wants to distance itself from agitating against the state government.

With this speech, it is evident that the central government will maintain a non-aligned attitude towardsTRS party. While MP Dattatreya critiqued the state home minister for his allegations against BJP, Rajnath himself put the state leaders in a tricky position, thus leaving the people guessing.

Last week when state BJP leaders were conducting Telangana Vimochana Yatra apprising people of the deception by TRS government, Bihar Deputy CM sang praises for the KCR. Saffron brigade of Telangana was embarrassed today again and Rajnath with his speech increased the confusion.

Is a consensus possible on the new President?

0

For a party known for its hubris, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to consult the opposition for a consensus on the presidential candidate has come as a pleasant surprise.

However, it is possible that its majority in the electoral college has enabled the party to display a show of magnanimity.

At the same time, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, has reminded the opposition parties that although the consultations will take place in the “true spirit of a democracy”, they must remember that “the mandate of the people is for the government.”

Naidu is one of the three chosen by the BJP to interact with the opposition. The other two are Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

However, the chances of a consensus candidate being chosen will brighten only if the BJP refuses to abide by the wish reportedly conveyed by its mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), that the party must utilise the advantage of a majority in the electoral college to choose a person who is a Hindutva ideologue.

Considering that the RSS has succeeded in planting saffron aficionados in a fairly large number of “autonomous” institutions, including the Indian Council of Historical Research and the Indian Council of Social Science Research, it is unlikely to be hesitant about having a man of its choice in Rashtrapati Bhavan — the best prize of all.

Perhaps reading its mind, the Shiv Sena had suggested RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s name as the next President. The Maharashtrian party may have also wanted to test the BJP’s sincerity to the cause of Hindutva, for it has said that Bhagwat will be a good choice to turn India into a Hindu rashtra (nation).

However, after Bhagwat himself turned down the proposal, the Sena has opted for M.S. Swaminathan, known as the father of India’s “green revolution” in agriculture. The name of E. Sreedharan, the engineer who built the world-class Delhi Metro, has also been mentioned. Needless to say, both are eminently suitable for the high office if only because of their distance from politics.

There might have been a faint chance of a compromise between the BJP and the “secular” parties if L.K. Advani’s name was put forward. However, the BJP’s margdarshak (visionary) has not been a favourite of the RSS ever since he praised Mohammed Ali Jinnah during a visit to Pakistan. Indeed, he had to leave the party president’s post soon afterwards.

More recently, however, his involvement in the Babri Masjid demolition case as a “conspirator” has effectively ruled out his chances. Similarly, Murli Manohar Joshi, who is known to be close to the RSS, has also lost the opportunity for making it to the big house on top of the Raisina Hill because of the Babri Masjid case.

Cynics have said that the reopening of the case against them by the Central Bureau of Investigation was meant by the powers that be to keep them out of reckoning, for neither of them is believed to enjoy Narendra Modi’s trust.

However, another person, who was not delighted with Modi’s elevation in the BJP before the general election, viz. Sushma Swaraj, has come to the forefront. She has several plus points. One is her humanitarian acts as the external affairs minister where her help is required by, among others, by stranded NRIs and ailing Pakistanis. The other, and more important, is that she is believed to enjoy the backing of the RSS.

Among the other front-runners are Draupadi Murmu, the governor of Jharkhand, and Sumitra Mahajan, the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The choice of Murmu, a tribal, will enable the BJP to reach out to one of the most neglected communities in the country, about whom the now virtually forgotten but undoubtedly their foremost leader, Jaipal Singh Munda (1903-1970), told the Constituent Assembly that “the whole history of my people is one of continuous exploitation and dispossession by the non-aboriginals of India”.

It is clear that none of the BJP’s opponents will oppose her choice for obvious reasons. But whether Murmu herself will be interested is unclear, for the President’s post can be the end of the road where a political career is concerned. Being 59 years old, a relatively young age for a politician, she may be unwilling to put a full stop to any further advancement in politics. Rumours have it, therefore, that she is keener on a cabinet berth at the Centre.

A consensus is also possible on Mahajan, for she has shown herself to be temperamentally calm. But this may be the very reason why the RSS is said to be against her.

In less fraught times, it may have been possible to evolve a consensus on the former Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar, who, as a Dalit and with a distinguished lineage — she is Jagjivan Ram’s daughter — may have had claims similar to Murmu’s for being selected for the highest constitutional position in the land.

But her Congress background ruins her chances straightaway in view of the BJP’s avowed intention of making India Congress-mukt (free). Moreover, the RSS would have been appalled to find a Congress person once again becoming the President.

If the Congress is an untouchable for the saffron lobby, so are the Muslims, which is why the Vice President Hamid Ansari did not have a chance. And there is no one like A.P.J. Abdul Kalam around, who was a nationalist despite being a Muslim, as Minister for Culture Mahesh Sharma said.

The Left parties have been pushing for Gopal Krishna Gandhi, a grandson of the “chatur bania” (clever trader) as BJP president Amit Shah descried Mahatma Gandhi.

But for all his credentials — a former governor and diplomat and related to the Mahatma and C. Rajagopalachari — his palpable secularism is a black mark where the Modi dispensation is concerned.

0

Intensifying his campaign for the removal of TDP MLA and commercial taxes minister Talasani Yadava from Telangana cabinet,  former MLA Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Saturday dashed off a letter to union home minister Rajnath Singh urging him to relieve   Governor ESL Narasimhan of his responsibilities for protecting the minister unconstitutionally.

He urged the union minister to direct Governor ESL Narasimhan to remove Yadav from chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s cabinet immediately as he completed six months in the cabinet. He charged Governor with deliberately allowing Srinvas Yadad in the cabinet without seeking his resignation as per the constitutional provision.

“The Governor deliberately chose to ignore paragraph 2 (1)(a) of Tenth Schedule of the Constitution and the ruling by the Constitutional Bench of Hon. Supreme Court of India, in the Rajender Singh Rana Vs Swami Prasad Mauray case delivered on 14-2-2003. The SC is very clear with regard to  he continuance of a person beyond six months as a minister which the Court said is unconstitutional. The Governor of Telangana, as the custodian of the constitution, has violated not only the constitutional provison but also judgement of Hon’ble Supreme Court, which is unpardonable”.

He urged union home minister to relieve the Governor immediately of his responsibilities as he as deliberately faltered and blatantly failed to discharge his duties.

Sashidhar Reddy was the former MLA of Sanathnagar which is now represented Talasani Srinivas Yadav.
