Inside info : How Rajamouli “trapped” NTR and Charan

Few months ago SS Rajamouli surprised everyone by posting a picture with NTR and Charan. This is followed by the announcement of a multi-starrer project ‘RRR’ to be bankrolled by DVV Danayya.

Shockingly, both NTR and Charan, during recent media interactions, revealed that they are yet to have a narration from Rajamouli. These statements came as a surprise and everyone is wondering how Rajamouli convinced two of the biggest actors of the current generation for this crazy multi-starrer without even narrating the line of his script.

Well, Telugu360 did some digging regarding this and learnt some exclusive stuff on how Rajamouli convinced them.

One fine day, Rajamouli called Charan and said he is planning to make a multi-starrer film without revealing the name of the other hero. Similarly, he informed the same to NTR and kept Charan’s name under wraps.

Later on, Rajamouli called both NTR and Charan to his office at a time and revealed the suspense. He didn’t narrate the line but asked them to take a call immediately if they want to be a part of this crazy project or not.

As both NTR and Charan have no qualms to share screen space, they immediately said yes to the project even without listening to the script. This is when Rajamouli posted the picture with both of them.

Also, Rajamouli hasn’t revealed anything to Charan and NTR about the teaser release till the last minute. He is keeping everything about this project under wraps.

Now, he is planning to narrate the story to NTR and Charan very soon.

DVV Danayya is the luckiest producer, Why ?

Ace producer DVV Danayya, who is currently bankrolling Mahesh Babu’s Bharat Ane Nenu, seems to have luck on his side. Here is why ?

It is well known that Ram Charan and DVV joined hands for an action entertainer in the direction of Boyapati Srinu. The regular shooting is currently underway and the film is expected to hit the screens in the second half of this year.

Luckily for DVV, Ram Charan’s latest release Rangasthalam has created a box office storm and is all set to emerge as the biggest blockbuster after Baahubali. The stupendous success of Rangasthalam will surely create unprecedented pre release buzz on Charan – Boyapati combo and DVV will be looking to cash in on the craze to strike it rich before the film completes shoot.

Also, DVV has another massive project lined up for 2020. It is the heady combination of Rajamouli – NTR – Ram Charan. As Rajamouli is coming from the humongous global success of Baahubali, this multi-starrer is going to be one of the biggest ever projects in the history of Indian cinema.

Danayya got call sheets of Charan and Rajamouli long ago and luckily both the projects are going to release when they have delivered the biggest hits in their respective careers. This will definitely help Danayya in making a great of money out of the crazy projects which are lined up next.

Rangasthalam OS distributor risk paying off big time

0

Ram Charan’s latest smash hit Rangasthalam is setting several milestones for upcoming films with its sensational box office run in all areas of its release. The overseas collections, in particular, are quite phenomenal as the film is galloping towards the three million mark.

Creative Cinemas NY, overseas distributor of Rangasthalam, bagged the theatrical rights for 10 Crores. As the film didn’t get any solid offers apart from a few areas, the distributor took the gamble and released the film on own which is now paying off big time.

Rangasthalam has reaped a rich harvest in overseas in its first weekend and touched the break even mark effortlessly. The film will enter profit zone from today and by the end of its full run, it will be a huge profitable venture in overseas. After tasting good profits with Tholi Prema, the distribution house has backed it up with Rangasthalam.

Initially, Jolly Hits Entertainments has bagged Rangasthalam in overseas. But, they backed out in the last minute due to some issues with Mythri Movie Makers.

Rangasthalam makers impose deadline for Amazon

2

Mythri Movie Makers is the most happening production house currently and the they raced to the top in Tollywood with three back to back blockbusters with Srimanthudu, Janatha Garage and Rangasthalam. Their recent outing Rangasthalam has been re-creating history all over and the film is expected to end up as one of the biggest hits in the history of Telugu cinema. The digital rights of Rangasthalam have been snapped for a record price of Rs 18 crores by Amazon Prime. However the makers had a strict deadline for the film to be released online.

The makers of Rangasthalam have been extremely confident on the film’s success and kept a deadline of 50 days for the film to be released online. Despite of paying huge amount, Amazon had to agree for the film to be released online only after 50 days from the theatrical release of Rangasthalam. Naveen Yerneni, one of the producers of Rangasthalam confirmed the news to his distributors. Rangasthalam has been directed by Sukumar and Samantha is the female lead. Sukumar Speaks about Rangasthalam

0

The logical filmmaker Sukumar has scored another fantastic hit with Ram Charan’s latest release Rangasthalam which earned rave reviews all over. Ram Charan’s performance in particular has become talk of the town and critics are terming it to be his career best performance. The film’s team organized a thank you meet in which Sukumar opened up about his experience working with Ram Charan during the film.

Sukumar said that Ram Charan went entirely into the skin of the character and whenever the director used to ask the hero to chill out wearing trousers, Cherry used to say, “The lungi is more comfortable , Bro!” which surprised the director. Sukumar also said that Cherry worked very hard to de-glamorize himself and suit for the role perfectly. The actor didn’t even hesitate to wear a hearing aid being a Mega Powerstar and assured Sukumar that it is the right thing to do! It is also incredible to see Charan trust Sukumar completely and the result is reflected in the output.

Before the release of the film, the makers of Rangasthalam were apprehensive about the length of it and had to cut some additional scenes. But now that the film is a big hit, Sukumar is willing to even add off the additional footage which might make the fans happier. The success of Rangasthalam proves once again that Telugu audience are willing to accept any experimental film as long as it has good story and acting performances.

Rangasthalam Trade – Megastar vs Mega Powerstar

Ram Charan’s latest offering Rangasthalam, which released last Friday, is unstoppable at box office. The rustic entertainer opened on a solid note with superb first day revenues in all major areas. Continuing its impressive run, the film minted strong revenues on Saturday and trade circles are expecting a big Sunday due to glowing word of mouth and positive reviews.

Going by its current trend, Rangasthalam is likely to emerge as one of the highest grossers in the history of Tollywood in its full run.

By the end of its first week, the Sukumar directional is likely to occupy the fourth place in the list of highest first week shares in Tollywood. Megastar Chiranjeevi, father of Ram Charan, holds the non-Baahubali record with the highest first week share for Khaidi No 150 which collected 76.87 Crores.

Trade experts in Telugu360 are predicting around 70 Crore share in the first week. There is a strong chance that it might give a tough competition to Megastar’s KN 150. For now, a fourth place after Baahubali 2, Baahubali 1 and Khaidi No 150 is confirmed for Rangastalam.

No Rajasekhar in Rajamouli’s Next

0

There have been wide speculations that veteran actor Rajasekhar has been roped in to play the lead antagonist in Rajamouli’s next multi-starrer that will feature NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles. There are even talks that the ‘R’ factor made Rajamouli consider Rajasekhar for the role. Keeping an end to all the speculations, Rajasekhar’s wife Jeevitha Rajasekhar called the rumors baseless. She clarified that Rajasekhar has not been approached for the role at all.

Jeevitha revealed that the duo met Rajamouli to invite the top director to grace the launch of Shivani’s debut film and Rajamouli made his presence after they requested. Rajamouli is currently busy scripting for the film and NTR, Charan will be presented in a never seen look. The regular shoot will commence during the end of this year and DVV Danayya will bankroll the project.

Ram Charan Teja anxious about ‘Rangasthalam’

3

Telugu superstar Ram Charan Teja says he is more anxious about Sukumar’s “Rangasthalam” than any of his films so far.

Ram Charan admits “Rangasthalam” is a new beginning for him.

“After ten years of acting, I needed a complete change. I have to constantly challenge myself as an actor. And what bigger challenge than this film where I play a real-life character who is also deaf.

“It is a completely different zone of performance for me. Hopefully my audience is going to be as excited by my makeover as I am,” he said.

The actor, who made his acting debut in 2007, says “Rangasthalam” was a first for him on many levels.

“I have never played a rural character before. In fact I had never stayed in a village before, though I have visited my native village with my father (Chiranjeevi) a few times. But this was my first exposure to rural life.

“We actually went and stayed in the remotest town on the map of Andhra Pradesh where there was no network for mobile services, no luxury hotels. Nothing to remind me of my metropolitan existence. We had to rough it out. The entire process of acclimatisation changed my attitude to the process of acting.”

Ram Charan also spent considerable time understanding his character’s physical disability.

“I spent five months understanding the character’s body language and his hearing disability. Since I had never played a rustic character before I wanted to ensure I got it right. I didn’t want my portrayal to look superficial,” he said.

The actor is full of praise for the team of “Rangasthalam”.

“I have to admit that the script itself was so coherent and comprehensive. It made my job easier. I also had a fabulous co-star in Samantha Akkineni. Without her, my performance would not have been possible. She is truly one of the best co-stars I have worked with.”

Ram Charan hopes the audience gives his film “the same love and appreciation that they have always given to my films”.

“Am I anxious for the change of image? Not anxious. Because change is imperative for an actor. With ‘Rangasthalam’, I have entered a more realistic phase of acting. I hope to do more such roles in future.”

The actor says his father has seen some rushes of the film.

“He felt I had nailed it. To me that was the most satisfying moment since I took up this challenge. Now, I look forward to the audiences’ response. Hopefully my journey into a new phase would be as smooth as it has been for the first ten years.”

Talking about his last film, he said: “Even in my last film ‘Dhruva’ where I played a police officer I had to beef up for the part. I built the body that the film required. Unfortunately ‘Dhruva’ came at the time when the country was hit by demonetization. My audience was just not in the mood to spend on movie tickets.

“So ‘Dhruva’ suffered, yes. But never mind. I am as proud of that film as I am of everything I’ve done so far.”

Rangasthalam Review — Charan 2.0

Rangasthalam Review

Telugu360 Rating : 3/5

Ram Charan’s long awaited rustic entertainer Rangasthalam 1985, directed by Sukumar, is all set to take the box office by storm. Majority of the film has been shot in Godavari region and the art work is said to be the mainstay of the film.

Story:

Rangasthalam is an uncomplicated, familiar story set in 1980s era. Chittibabu ( Ram Charan) , a village youngster, lives life to fullest despite being partially deaf. He goes all out to support his Dubai returned elder brother Kumar Babu ( Adi Pinisetty). Ruthless baddy Phanindra Bhupati ( Jagapathi Babu ) is the president of Rangasthalam village for continuous 30 years. He kills anyone who dares to question his atrocities. After a sequence of incidents, Kumar Babu revolts against the president, files nomination against him in upcoming elections.

Rest of the story is how Chittibabu helps his brother and deals with the consequences.

Performances:

When Ramcharan announced this film with Sukumar, cine lovers expected a performance-oriented role is on cards. However, some were not convinced about Charan’s choice to play village lad that too who is partially deaf. But, with his hard work, Ram Charan has excelled in performance as chittibabu – the sound engineer. Be it his acts to cover-up his disability, or his innocent way of expressing love to Rama Lakshmi, Or Sensitive thread with Rangammattha Or unadulterated love towards his brother or emotional revolt against the landlord .. He is at ease in every scene, delivers stellar performance. Charan carried this film single handedly.

Jagapathi Babu in first half delivers ruthless performance. Rama Lakshmi role is not a tailor made one for Samantha, but she tried hard to succeed. Anchor Anasuya as Rangammattha is a surprise pack. Adi Pinisetty as Charan’s brother is adequate. Naresh, Brahmaji played two scenes each roles and obviously they did perform well. Pooja Hegde sizzles in an item song. Devi Sri Prasad does justice to songs and background score.

Analysis:

Rangasthalam has its own merits and demerits equally. Versatile director Sukumar seems focused more on recreating 80s ambience. In each scene, each frame audience can see the utmost care had been put into to make an authentic 80s era story. Sukumar and his production team passed with distinction in this aspect. Not only the sets but also the costumes, characters’ diction, their body language etc. are so perfect. Sukumar’s characters carry real life with them than just cinematic presence Films with this backdrop have the scope to deliver heart touching emotions, but director has failed in delivering emotional threads within.

First half is very good with Charan-Samantha thread, nice songs and authentic rural setting. By interval, right premise has been set for second half. But, second half has been dragged on with boring sentiment scenes. Telugu audiences are not used for such lengthy sentiment scenes. President Jagapathi babu characterization is too good in first half, but in second half this role is abruptly sidelined and obviously overall impact is diluted. Adi Pinisetty final scene reminds us of a typical Tamil sentiment film. In second half, the violence is bit more. For the dragged second half, climax is the savior. Production values by Mythri movies are top class.

Songs :

Yentha Sakkagunnave , Rangamma Mangamma and Jigelu Rani songs came out very well on screen. Ranga Ranga Ranga sthalaana is a decent one. Other two songs are nothing to talk about. Ram Charan’s steps in Jigelu Raani song are a feast for fans and masses.

Positives:

  • Ram Charan performance
  • Very authentic recreation of 80s rural life
  • Three superhit Songs

Negatives:

  • Overdose of sentiment scenes in second half
  • No emotional connect

Verdict:

Rangasthalam is a raw drama backed by Ram Charan’s unexpected stellar performance, meticulous artwork to portray 80s ambience of a rustic village. However, terribly dragged overdose of sentiment scenes in second half kills the commercial aspect to an extent. Again in Climax , Ram Charan’s brilliant act turns saving grace. Box-office performance depends on how fans embrace this different film from a mass star.

Overseas trade waiting for Rangasthalam

0

Ram Charan starrer Rangasthalam, which is set for release tomorrow, is the first big ticket film of the season. The Sukumar directional has been carrying solid buzz among audience after the striking teasers and chartbuster songs got released.

Trade circles are also eagerly waiting for the release of Rangasthalam as the box office has been witnessing a dull phase in recent times due to lack of big hits.

Overseas trade, in particular, is waiting with a bated breath, because its been a while since Telugu biggies did well there. All recent big ticket films ended as high profile duds. So, distributors are hesitant to allot huge number of screens before the film’s release.

They are anxiously waiting for the first talk on Thursday to add more shows towards the first weekend.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Rangasthalam is releasing through ‘Creative Cinemas NY LLC’ in overseas.
