BJP MLA: Own survey shows pro-TDP mood in voters

3

Visakhapatnam North MLA Vishnukumar Raju is not active in BJP party politics for a few months now. He is also not attending public and government functions much. Enquiries revealed that Raju is in a total dilemma whether to contest the next election on BJP ticket or not. He is afraid the anti-BJP mood is clear among the AP voters now and it may have definite impact on his winning prospects.

Raju has got a good name and rapport with the constituency people as he is very accessible to all sections there. But still he has doubts whether his individual strengthen will help him in the 2019 election. To catch the pulse of the people in his segment, Raju has got an in-depth survey done by his followers.

As expected, the survey has indicated people favouring his candidature but at the same time they have spoken strongly against the BJP policies. Rumours about this survey have spread fast among political circles now. There is also speculation Raju will not contest on BJP ticket next time and he may join TDP or YCP considering invitations from both the parties.
Surely, it is a testing time for most senior leaders of BJP in AP as they will be under pressure from top leadership to contest the election though defeat appears certain under prevailing political circumstances.

BJP not respecting federal spirit: AP Assembly

0

G Ravikiran

In a unanimous resolution, AP Assembly took strong objection to the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for not conferring special status on AP and for not implementing the other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

As the current session came to a close, the ruling TDP took the opportunity and introduced the resolution to attack the Centre on bifurcation promises. The BJP AP leaders had no choice but to silently accept and support the resolution to avoid inviting greater disapproval of the AP people.
The Assembly made a scathing attack saying that “the BJP government at the Centre was not showing federal and democratic spirit with regard to AP promises. It should note that all parties in the country said in parliament that the special status is the right of AP people. This promise was made at the time of state division and was made by the then Prime Minister in the Parliament. Now the Centre was wrong in trying to refuse this in the name of 14th Finance Commission not recommending the same. Then how is it allowing 11 other states to enjoy tax concessions and other benefits of special status?”
TDP National President and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu used the occasion to portray the BJP as the main enemy of AP now while asserting that the people would also defeat YCP and BJP local leaders for their support to the anti-AP policies of the Centre.

Naidu said: “These parties are acting like the British Raj in colonial era. They are forgetting the fact that they are part of a democratic system. Our only question is why injustice is being done to AP without a stop even four years after division. The TRS in Telangana once supported AP cause but it withdrew that support now only because of the pressure brought by the BJP leadership. This kind of negative mindset is hurting AP people now and there they are causing more damage to future generations. People will remember this”

Mr Naidu deplored that the Centre was collecting huge taxes but not passing on the consequential benefits. It is treating AP people as its slaves and not as rightful citizens.

As usual, the YCP members were absent in the session. BJP Legislature Party leader Vishnukumar Raju had no option but to say that as a person born in Andhra, he would support the resolution silently as it was pertaining to the greater cause of the state.

BJP wants Pattiseema to be named after Chandrababu

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday turned tables on YSRCP Congress by asking the party to state whether it would support the Pattiseema project or not. So far, YSRCP has been posing the irksome question to chief minister Naidu to tell the people whether he was supporting the special status of not.

Today, state assembly took up Pattiseema Project issue for the debate. As the opposition leader Jagan was away in Pulivendula to participate in death anniversary of YS Rasekhar Reddy, deputy leader J Nehru spoke on the subject. Elaborating on the benefits of Pattiseema project, being taken up on Godavari, Naidu said the project was meant to divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema, which is a drought prone area.
“We want transfer 80 TMC Godavari water to Krishna barrage. The water thus saved in Krishna will be transferred to Rayalaseema. Now tell if you are opposed to taking water to Rayalaseema which was the objective of Pattiseema, or not,” Naidu asked and wanted straight answer.

YSR Congress leader Jyothula Nehru found difficult to answer in clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ . He said his party was not opposed to linking of the rivers, but they were opposed to the way the project was being implemented. “We are opposed to the motive behind the construction of Pattiseema when Polavaram was to be taken up with more benefits. Pattiseema is not a irrigation project, but a money spinning project,” he said.

BJP floor leader, Vishnukumar Raju, who normally used to take critical stand against TDP on many issues, this time, became cheerleader of chief minister Naidu. He said as a civil engineer he knew more about Pattiseema than Nehru. ” It is amazing that the state government is able to finish the project in just eight months and one should appreciate the efforts of chief minister Naidu. Going an extra mile, he suggested to the house that the project should be named as “Chandranna Pattiseema scheme” to the cheers from the treasury benches.

Then Nehru described the BJP as the tail of TDP, which was objected to by Raju stating, BJP could cut tails of YSRCP if it wants. Chief minister also defended BJP stating that it was a national party and there was nothing wrong in Raju’s appreciation of TDP’s work.
