How Telangana’s Yadadri temple transformed into architectural marvel?

0

After more than five years of renovation and reconstruction, Telangana’s Yadadri temple has transformed from a small hill shrine into a magnificent and sprawling pilgrimage centre and an architectural marvel.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, popularly known as Yadadri temple and located about 60 km from Hyderabad in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, has undergone complete transformation in line with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s ambitious vision.

The mega project was taken up at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore and works were launched on October 11, 2016. After strenuous efforts put in by various agencies for more than five years, the temple was finally re-opened for devotees on Monday while the other works around it are yet to be completed.

With elaborate rituals involving scores of priests, KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, inaugurated the temple.

Accompanied by his wife Shoba Rao, other family members, host of cabinet ministers, TRS leaders and officials, KCR participated in the ‘Mahakumbha Samprokshana’. He performed Kalasha pujas and participated in the procession carrying the presiding deity from Balalayam to the sanctum sanctorum.

Whatever KCR plans always draws attention for its scale and magnificence. Be it Kaleshwaram, the world’s largest lift irrigation project built at a cost of about Rs 1 lakh crore, construction of the chief minister’s official residence or the ongoing new Secretariat Complex in Hyderabad, KCR was personally involved in the design and development of his dream projects.

The renovation of Yadadri temple is also part of KCR’s efforts to develop physical assets in line with the cultural identity of Telangana. Political observers say ever since he formed the first government after the formation of Telangana state in 2014, he always focused on strengthening the unique culture and traditions of the state.

As bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh led to the residuary state keeping most of the major temples, KCR drew an ambitious plan to revamp and renovate 1,000-year-old temple at Yadagirigutta into a temple at par with Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh, which is the world’s richest Hindu temple.

Before embarking on the project, KCR renamed Yadagirigutta as Yadadri. He took well-known pontiff Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, considered as his spiritual guru, with him on a helicopter survey of the temple and its surroundings. KCR decided to club the neighbouring eight hills to make it a mega centre of pilgrimage. Thus the pilgrimage centre will have nine hills against seven hills of Tirumala.

The government created Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA) to execute the renovation and reconstruction works. Authorities have not used conventional materials such as cement, bricks and concrete in the project. They used only lime and mortar for the temple works as per heritage norms.

It is said to be the only temple in India which has been built with Krishna Shila (black stone). About 2.5 lakh tonnes of black stone was sourced from Prakasam and Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh for sculptors and other works.

Every day, about 1,500 workers, including 800 sculptors, from different places including Allagadda, Karimnagar and Tamil Nadu toiled long and hard to execute the mega project.

Temple’s chief architect Anand Sai visited several temples across South India before making a final plan. According to him, seven gopurams are inspired by Srirangam temple of Tiruchirapalli.

Gold plating of Vimana Gopuram or the main Gopuram at the temple has been inspired by Tirumala temple. The gold plating of Gopuram, which is an ongoing work, requires 125 kg gold. On an appeal by KCR, corporate houses, businessmen, public representatives and politicians late last year donated nearly 30 kg of gold.

KCR had announced the first donation of 1 kg 16 tolas gold to the temple on behalf of his family.

The Rajagopuram or the pyramidal structure at the temple entrance is seven-storey high. It is made of stones weighing 13,000 tonnes.

KCR made several trips to Yadadri to review the progress of the renovation works. On many occasions, he suggested change in designs of the beautification works.

The Covid-19 pandemic had its impact on the pace of the work and led to the delay of more than two years.

The renovated temple is now a 17-acre, three-storey temple with seven gopurams and sculptures, which the officials believe would mesmerize devotees for years to come. While the overall project is spread over 2,000 acres, the development has been completed over 250 acres around the hill shrine.

The temple complex was earlier spread over just 2,500 square yards with hardly any space for devotees to move around after darshan or to get prasadam. Now the expanded and renovated complex can accommodate one lakh devotees.

Authorities expect 8,000 devotees to the temple every day and this number may go up to 40,000 on holidays.

According to YTDA officials, about Rs 1,000 crore have so far been spent on the entire project. While nearly Rs 280 crore was spent on temple renovation and reconstruction, the remaining amount went towards land acquisition, road laying and infrastructure development.

KCR’s daughter and a state legislator K. Kavitha believes that KCR has bestowed Telangana with one of the most historic and iconic temples.

According to endowment minister A. Indrakaran Reddy, the glorious architecture and transformation of the Yadadri will make it one of the most unique temples in the world. “Every single detailing of the temple is unique and set to leave the devotees spellbound in the ocean of devotion,” he said.

KCR fixes April 15 deadline for Yadadri temple reopening

2

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the officials concerned to complete the final touches to the renovations works of Sri Yadadri Laxmi Narasimha temple complex by April 15 for the reopening of the temple.

The CM held a review meeting Yadadri temple at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday.

The CM made several suggestions about the decorations to be done at the Queue line constructions. He wanted 350 feet Queue line construction should be done using the Brass designs.

The CM wanted that nothing should obstruct the temple view 360 degrees and it should appear like an Iconic element.

The CM appreciated the construction of the Addala Mandapam (Mirror Hall) and said it is coming up very beautifully.

KCR said, “After the renovation, Yadadri Temple town will show its exclusivity among all the temples in the world. The entire Yadadri temple renovated with the Krishna Sila (Black stone) is going to become known for its uniqueness. After the reopening, devotees in lakhs would visit the temple. Measures should be taken in such a way that these devotees should not face any difficulties during their holy visit.”

Farmers suffer due to KCR’s “Yadadri road”!

0

On one hand, TRS supremo and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao claim to be “Rythu Bandhu”.

On another hand, his government is subjecting farmers to hardships by acquiring their lands and closing agriculture borewells indiscriminately for the sake of laying road to enable KCR to travel to Yadagirigutta (Yadadri temple) directly from his farmhouse in Erravelli.

Roads and buildings officials have proposed to lay a road directly from KCR’s farmhouse to Yadadri temple.

For this, they are acquiring agriculture lands without issuing any acquisition notifications. They are threatening farmers who are refusing to give away their lands.

Officials are also closing agriculture borewells that are coming in the way of road laying works.

With this, farmers are losing crops due to non-availability of water.

Vexed at the high handedness of R&B officials, farmers in Turkapally village near Yadadri temple, resorted to Rasta Roko demanding the government to drop the proposal to lay the direct road to Yadadri from KCR’s farmhouse.

Despite all this, KCR has ignored to respond to this issue leaving farmers in the lurch.

Where is the need to lay a separate road to Yadadri temple from KCR’s farmhouse?

Do officials think that KCR will remain as CM of Telangana permanently to use this road?

Why public money should be spent and farmers should be troubled for laying the road to KCR?

Yadadri to lose its rustic beauty in development

0

Ever since the formation of Telangana state three years ago, the wish of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has been to have a divine abode on a par with Balaji temple in Tirumala which is in Andhra Pradesh. Luckily, he is able to keep Bhadrachalam (in Khammam district), where the famous and historic Sri Rama temple is located on the banks of Godavari River, despite AP efforts to make it part of Andhra.

To match the grandeur and popularity of the Lord of Seven Hills, KCR has decided to develop the abode of Lord LakshmiNarasimha Swamy in Yadagirigutta, just not an important pilgrim centre in the state but as a spiritual-cultural hub. A beginning was made in March 2015 with the renaming of Yadagirigutta as Yadadri by Chinna JeeyarSwamy who is now de facto official priest of Telangana government. To make the presiding deity Narasimha Swamy as the Lord of Nine Hills, eight adjoining hillocks have been included in the core area that comprises the main temple, cottages and buildings for pilgrims’ stay, hotels and restaurants, shopping complexes for visitors and a huge bus and taxi terminal.

The TRS government has sanctioned Rs 100 crores to develop Yadadri and a Master Plan has been prepared envisaging transformation of a small temple town into a bustling spiritual-educational-cultural hub of the state.

In March this year, IT Minister KT Rama Rao had told the state Assembly that the government would strive to make Yadadri a prominent religious and spiritual centre of Telangana and “temple works are progressing at a brisk pace.” He also said steps would be taken to ensure that pilgrims would not face any inconvenience or difficulty as far as food and accommodation are concerned. Besides AC and non-AC rest rooms, a dining hall to serve free food to 5,000 people at a time and other facilities are being constructed.

The development plan is so massive that an authority to execute the project in two phases has been established. Known as Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA), its jurisdiction extends to several villages covering an area of 104 square kilometers. To facilitate easy movement, all important places from within the state and outside would be connected to Yadadri by highways. Even extension of Hyderabad Metro is being considered.

While devotees welcome the KCR initiative, it also draws flak from many quarters. One question being repeatedly raised is allotment of government funds for temple development and transforming a quiet town into a bustling tourist-cum-pilgrim centre. Traditionalists fear that the sanctity of ancient temple will be lost once it becomes a commercial hub. Moreover, they think, one can’t enhance the faith by merely making a place more attractive and by providing modern facilities.

The collateral effects of development in the area are being felt now. Already, the land prices have gone up steeply and realtors are trying to cash in on expected tourist-pilgrim boom. Though space for ample green cover is incorporated in the master plan, with buildings all around and a surge of visitors, Lord Lakshmi Narasimha could well be sitting in his cave amidst a concrete jungle.
