Time to confer Bharat Ratna on Anna NTR

0

Every Mahanadu, birth anniversary, death anniversary of NTR one statement reverberates in Andhra Pradesh – ‘Bharat Ratna for NTR’. Undoubtedly NTR is great and legends do not need awards for their greatness. Why make a joke of his contributions by constantly seeking national award and failing since forever now?

In the Indian Cinema we cannot find another actor who can match with his talent, depth and breadth. He created a Guinness record by coming to power in 9 months after floating the Telugu Desham party. This achievement is eternal.

You can’t be digging great men’s graves for giving the award. Mahatma Gandhi did not get Nobel prize and not even Bharat Ratna, but he is remembered more than anyone. This award will not make NTR any greater than what he is today.

When Atalji could give the award, TDP did not ask for it. NTR is the man who began the process of challenging congress and it is inanity to expect UPA to confer him the highest civilian award. With the recent demise of Jayalalithaa AIADMK is demanding Bharat Ratna for her. The big question is will BJP even dare to propose Jayalalitha’s name for Bharat Ratna before NTR.The Madras high court declined to direct the Centre to confer the nation’s highest civilian award on J Jayalalithaa.TDP has been holding the fire for long and the time is ripe now.

Regional leaders such as M G Ramachandran, Kamaraj have been conferred this esteemed award long ago, NTR deserves to receive it soon. Only two personalities – Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Zakir Hussain were awarded the Bharat Ratna from telugu regions. Choosing awardees from extensive list of eminent persons in India who have passed long ago, could result in rows. While constantly seeking award, TDP should also follow NTR’s ‘Telugu vadiathma gouravam’ and keep its self-respect.

NTR provided the first educated government to Andhra Pradesh. Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers were his ministers. What does the current TDP have – leader who has undergraduate degree in BCom, only because he was driven by his interest in math and physics! Or a Businessman who is running the education department.
