The sudden and abrupt orders issued by the Municipal Administration Department abolishing English medium classes in all Municipal Schools of the state, has creating uproar in Andhra Pradesh.

The GO No 14 released on the eve of the New Year, suggests that there would be no Telugu medium classes, from 1st to 10th class in all the municipal schools, starting from the academic year 2017-18.

Surprisingly, it is said to be released without consulting the Education Department. Just a week ago, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has promised that his government is committed to promote and encourage Telugu culture, language and traditions, speaking at a programme in Vijayawada.

Teachers Unions in the state are strongly condemning this unilateral action accusing that the Government in its eagerness to surrender before the Corporate schools, putting the future of over 2.51 lakh schools in stalemate.

and demanding the government to withdraw the GO immediately. They are meeting the Municipal Secretary at Secretariat in Velgapudi, tomorrow to register their protest.

Teachers Unions deplore that issuing such GO without taking stock of availability of English medium teachers and identifying their training requirements, makes the entire primary education system to collapse.
