Uttarakhand keen to learn from Kakatiya mission

An official delegation from Uttarakhand state embarked on a week-long official tour in Telangana districts to study the implementation of the Mission and the benefits accrued to the farming community as well as rural folk in providing livelihoods after the tanks restored .

The Telangana state government’s flagship progra “ Mission Kakatiya” , launched for the restoration of nearly 50,000 tanks and water bodies in all villages , grabbed the national attention.

Uttarakhand government has also taken up the official visit in Telangana districts as part of developing new tanks and water bodies by utilizing the funds sanctioned for the purpose by the World Bank recently.

The delegation comprising of Uttarakhand MLAs, Water Board officials and the representatives from State Level Water Shed Council from the northern state.

Accompanied by the officials of the T state Irrigation department and local people representatives , the delegation on Wednesday visited Warangal. On the first day on Tuesday, the legislators toured villages in Medak district. The delegation has been explained the technology adopted in desilting the tank beds to restore original water storage of the tanks, repairing dilapidated sluices, weirs and repairing of the feeder channels was explained to the delegation. The program aimed to conserving the water bodies, creation of new irrigation facility and the increase of ground water levels in the dry land areas after the renovation of tanks.

Telangana officials also informed the delegation the plan of action prepared by the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao for the execution of the works in a time bound manner. The delegation excited in learning about the transparency adopted in the finalization of works to the contract agencies and the involvement of local people in developing the tanks excited the delegation.

The delegation praised Harish Rao and the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for giving top priority to the irrigation sector specially the Mission Kakatiya by allocating huge funds. , TS government already decided to earmark Rs 25,000 crore funds in 2016-17 budget for to complete long pending and construct new irrigation projects.
