YSRC questions TDP’s silence on Rohit’s suicide

The Opposition YSR Congress SC Cell has taken strong objection to the lack of response from the TDP government towards the unnatural death of dalit scholar Rohit at Hyderabad Central University. “Neither Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu nor his cabinet colleagues have reacted to the tragic incident which shows their apathy towards dalits,’ party SC Cell president Merugu Nagarjuna told reporters here on Wednesday.

The Vice Chancellor, who suspended five students at the behest of union ministers, had been very adamant to the students’ grievances, he said.

“Vice Chancellor Prof Apparao was appointed at the recommendation of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and union minister Venkaiah Naidu. Like in Acharya Nagarjuna university, where Rishikeswari incident took place, in HCU as well caste has taken precedence wherever heads of the institutions have been appointed with political and caste affiliations by TDP government. We condemn the caste based politics and demand justice to the dalit scholars who are suspended, he said.

Nagarjuna alleged that attempts were being made to dilute the case.”Some people started inquiries going at Gurazala, the native place of Rohit to approach the family members. So far, not a single minister has condoled the death of dalit scholar and they were looking away when there was a social boycott against dalits,” he said.

The party suspected some foul play in cremation of body while it had to be buried according to the dalit tradition.
