Maganti Gopinath, the sitting MLA of Jubilee Hills, a senior BRS leader and Ex-TDP MLA, passed away early this morning at 5:45 AM in AIG Hospital, Hyderabad. He was 62 years old. Gopinath had been admitted to the hospital three days ago after suffering a massive heart attack. Despite doctors giving him emergency CPR and keeping him under intensive care, his condition remained serious, and he could not recover.
For several months, Gopinath had been dealing with kidney-related problems and was undergoing regular dialysis. His health took a sudden turn for the worse after a cardiac arrest, which led to multi-organ failure. Doctors confirmed that his body stopped responding to treatment, and he was kept on ventilator support until his death.
Maganti Gopinath began his political career in 1983 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) during the leadership of N. T. Rama Rao. He became the MLA from Jubilee Hills in 2014, representing TDP. Later, he joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and won again in 2018 and 2023, making him a three-time MLA from the same constituency. He also served as the BRS Hyderabad city president and was known for his strong connection with local people and his commitment to grassroots development.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited AIG Hospital to pay his respects. Former Chief Minister and BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, who is currently abroad, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to meet the grieving family, as Gopinath had a long history with the TDP before joining BRS.
Known for his soft-spoken and friendly nature, Maganti Gopinath was very accessible to the public, especially to people in low-income areas. He worked actively on solving basic civic problems like drinking water supply and road development, which made him a respected and popular leader in Jubilee Hills.
His passing is a big loss for the BRS party and the Jubilee Hills constituency. As a three-time MLA and a well-loved leader, his absence will be deeply felt by both his party and the public.
