In a growing controversy in Nellore Rural, former Member of Parliament Adala Prabhakar Reddy has stirred headlines for a legal ownership over 1.80 acres of land in Kanuparthipadu village, a plot that is now at the centre of a long-standing dispute involving a prominent religious institution.
Prabhakar Reddy claims he bought the land back in 2007, supported by what he describes as proper legal documents. Speaking to the media, he maintained that the transaction was genuine and completed through lawful channels. But his statement comes in the backdrop of renewed allegations suggesting the land actually belongs to the Ahobilam Mutt, a revered religious trust that has reportedly been battling for decades to reclaim the property.
According to the Mutt’s representatives, the land was illegally registered under another organization’s name in 2007 by individuals unrelated to them. They argue that despite multiple petitions and appeals to district authorities over the years, their claims were ignored, until recently.
Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy’s intervention has brought the case back into the spotlight. Following his involvement, revenue officials conducted a fresh land survey, which confirmed the property belongs to the Ahobilam Mutt. Officials then placed a board on the site to publicly mark the Mutt’s claim.
Shortly after the board was installed, Nagendra Reddy, said to be Adala Prabhakar Reddy’s nephew, allegedly arrived at the location, dismantled the board, and reportedly threatened the Mutt’s representatives. A police complaint has been filed following the incident, adding a criminal layer to the civil dispute.
Tahsildar Krishna Prasad has since confirmed that government land records identify the property as belonging to the Ahobilam Mutt. This development has strengthened the Mutt’s position, even as Prabhakar Reddy insists he is the rightful owner and promises to take the legal route to prove it.
