Around dozen aspirants for two MLC seats in AP

Hectic tasks and several eyes await Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who returned to the state last night after touring the US. One of the critical task is the selection of MLC candidates in Governor quota. The term of A Chakrapani, Reddappa Reddy who were selected in governor quota in the Congress reign will end on 27th May. In about ten days the names of new candidates will be announced.

Former minister K Ramasubba Reddy’s group from Jammalamadugu has vented out anger for accommodating his arch factional rival C Adinarayana Reddy into the Cabinet. CM himself had to pacify Ramasubba Reddy, and was apparently promised to be bestowed with MLC seat in governor’s quota. The competition for two seats is cut down to one. At least a dozen leaders are in the race for the one seat left.

Several names surfaced including the council chairman A Chakrapani who is looking for another chance. Anam Vivekananda Reddy allegedly met Naidu and reminded him of failing to keep up the promise to bestow him seat under MLA quota. On the other hand, ex-chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s family is strengthening its political relationships with Naidu. However, in the Cabinet expansion last month Reddy circle was given prominence, and with Rama Subba Reddy already in race, the chances to inducted another Reddy is bleak.

Dalit leaders including ex MLC-Jupudi Prabhakar Rao, Varla Ramaiah, J R Pushparaj are trying their best to get themselves inducted into the council. Elites from Guntur district Chandu Sambasiva Rao and Dasari Raja whose names surfaced earlier as well, are now hoping to secure the MLC ticket.

There are some women TDP leaders who are also eager to get the seat. Former speaker Kavali Pratibha Bharati is in the race along with Mullapudi Renuka who are optimistic of securing a place in the legislative council. Movie actress and TDP leader Kavitha apparently met Naidu couple of times and requested to bless her with the MLC seat. Panchumarthi Anuradha who did not want to take MLC seat for just 2years is now trying hard to lock herself in the MLC seat in governor’s quota.

With so many leaders trying hard to get the blessings of the CM, it would be interesting to see whose wishes get fulfilled.
