In the YSRCP party, bullying, rowdyism, and violence seem to be special qualifications for securing positions. Just as Chief Minister Jagan previously promoted an MLA who attacked a TDP leader’s house to his Cabinet, the same criteria appear to be applied for party leadership roles now.
The recent appointment of KK Raju as YSP district president in Visakhapatnam has sparked controversy. When this name is mentioned, the people of Visakhapatnam immediately think of chaos and disorder.
During Jagan’s rule, KK Raju gained popularity for alleged land grabs and intimidation tactics. The once peaceful Visakhapatnam reportedly transformed into a hub of unrest during the YSP tenure.
A defining incident occurred on February 27, 2020, when then-opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu visited Visakhapatnam. KK Raju led YSRCP members in preventing Chandrababu Naidu from leaving the airport, even throwing eggs and tomatoes at him. Surprisingly, no police case was registered at that time.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that opposition to KK Raju’s appointment comes not just from rival parties but from within YSP ranks as well. Party workers question why an “outsider” with a controversial reputation was chosen when many respected BC, SC, ST, and minority leaders were available.
Despite video evidence and complaints filed by TDP leader Gopal Reddy in November last year, the case against KK Raju moved slowly. Even after appeals to Minister Nara Lokesh and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, critics claim the investigation shows little progress.
JSP leaders also allege that KK Raju similarly obstructed Pawan Kalyan during his visit to Visakhapatnam.
