Andhra Pradesh Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas assured the High Court that the government will not proceed with the process of withdrawing criminal cases against MLAs and the concerned public prosecutors will seek an adjournment on the petitions seeking closure in lower courts against the TDP leaders as the court is examining a PIL.

A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganthan and Justice Uma Devi on Tuesday were hearing the petition filed by YSRCP Mangalagiri MLA Alla RamaKrishna Reddy regarding withdrawal of 23 criminal cases against the TDP Ministers and MLAs and challenged as many as 250 G.O. in this regard.

The AG Dammalapati objected that the 250 GOs issued over three years and not collectively and urged the court to look at the political motive of the petitioner.

It may be recalled that the TDP government in a controversial move dropped as many as 23 criminal cases related to elections offences, assault and murder against its party leaders. The cases against the turncoats from YSRCP were also withdrawn.

The bench said that Petitioner RamaKrishna may have his political motives since he is an opposition MLA. Court said we do not “need an Albert Einstein to decipher that. We can also take this matter suo moto in view of the seriousness of the matter”

The Court gave two weeks of time to file a counter on behalf of the state. The next hearing will take place on September19.
