The Andhra Pradesh government has turned its serious attention to a series of concerning incidents occurring in the capital city of Amaravati. Officials are investigating whether these events are connected and if someone is deliberately behind them.
The state government has directed senior police officials to maintain vigilant oversight of the situation in Amaravati. Concerns were raised when pipes worth approximately Rs 3.75 crore were set on fire on the same day Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the capital’s reconstruction projects.
The contracting company LMT has filed a police complaint about the burned pipes. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from near Venkatapalam to determine how the incident occurred, with senior officers conducting a thorough investigation.
Adding to the government’s concerns, a foundation stone for the Secretariat Towers, previously unveiled by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, was also vandalised. This incident has caused alarm among officials, prompting the government to order an investigation to identify those responsible.
Authorities are exploring whether these incidents might be linked to individuals opposing the Amaravati capital project. Officials noted that during a previous visit by Prime Minister Modi for laying the foundation stone, banana plantations were set on fire. Investigators are reviewing connections between suspects in both cases.
Enhanced Security Measures
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ordered comprehensive surveillance throughout Amaravati as large-scale reconstruction work begins. During a teleconference with party leaders, he emphasised that people across all regions of the state should feel that “Amaravati is mine.”
Focus on Previous Offenders
The CM has also directed police to monitor individuals who previously stole construction materials, including iron and even road materials, during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure. He has ordered the immediate arrest of culprits identified in earlier complaints and instructed officials to take preventive measures against future incidents.
