Ramayana is the costliest film made in Indian cinema till date. The film releases in two parts and the first part is slated for Diwali release this year. Bollywood media started speculating that the digital players offered a whopping Rs 700 crores for the digital rights of both the parts including all the languages. This is a huge deal for an Indian film. But the film’s producer Namit Malhotra is said to have rejected the offer quoting Rs 1000 crores.
The digital players have slashed the OTT deals by almost 30 percent in the recent times and they are not in a hurry. Most of the giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime have closed the business for 2026 as their budgets are done. At this time, it is unclear if the makers have rejected the deal or if it is a PR stunt to generate the buzz on the film. It may be a rumor started by someone which is spread across the country too. Rumours also say that the producers are in plans to sell the digital rights of the first part and hold the rights of the second.
Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and the film features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Yash in the lead roles.
