Congress brainstorms over new poll strategies

0

Hyderabad: With an objective to check TRS and take on KCR’s charishma, Congress party is continuing its brainstorm sessions over strategizing new ideas for forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has decided to hold few more review meetings with the party MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders from Telangana.

After a dismal performance in the Assembly elections held in December 2018, Congress party now wants to revamp the way party is functioning to take on Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). Party senior leaders have suggested Rahul Gandhi to take up a massive revamp of the party structure to strengthen the grand old party in Telangana. During the first review meeting organized at Rahul Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, Telangana Congress leaders gave a presentation on why TRS swept the polls and reasons for the humiliating defeat for the opposition party.

The TRS government had deposited amount under Rythu Bandhu scheme just three days before the poll date. The huge money spend by the TRS government under several welfare schemes had further taken a toll on Congress, they said. Further, the delay in finalizing the candidates by Mahakutami banner was another setback for the Congress party as TRS had successfully cashed it by showing it as failure of the alliance. More importantly, the traditional vote bank of TDP was shifted to TRS as yellow party’s MLAs and cadres joined the pink party, observed a senior Congress leader.

One more minister leaving Congress?

0

After Congress declaring that there will be no alliance with TDP in 2019,we have already seen Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy having talks with AP CM Chandrababu Naidu.

Now likely former Minister Kishore Chandra Deo is about to resign from Congress and ready to join TDP.

Kishore has been elected 5 times to Lok Sabha and one term In Rajya Sabha. He also served as the Union Cabinet Minister for Tribal Affairs & Panchayati Raj from 2011-2014.

Last election he has lost his ticket after joining by contesting from Araku.

After a big failure in 2014 elections, some congress leaders put all those hopes on TDP alliance.

Raghuveera Reddy vows not to enter Andhra Pradesh

0

Andhra Pradesh PCC president Raghuveera Reddy has made sensational statement saying that he will never enter his state and native village if the Congress party, after coming back to power, doesn’t award Special Category Status (SCS).

Speaking during his tour in Anantapur district, the AP PCC president said: “After becoming Prime Minister of India, Rahul Gandhi will make his first signature on the file of awarding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. In case, it didn’t happen, then I will not enter my village and Andhra Pradesh as well. My houses and all my properties are in AP only. I am here for the last 62 years.”

The then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced the Special Status to AP for five years. Subsequently, BJP during the general elections promised special status, but put it on the back burner after forming the NDA government, said Reddy. It may be recalled that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on several occasions assured special status to AP, once his party comes back to the power.

2019 poll: TDP and Congress to contest separately?

1

There are far less chances for the Telugu Desam Party and the Congress to have an alliance in the April-May general election this year. Both the parties’ leaderships are giving ample indications about this. The TDP is considering an alliance with the Congress will badly damage its electoral prospects just because the voters will not accept this arrangement like in Telangana. The TDP is from the beginning fighting against the Congress and their coming together will not go down well with the people.

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has discussed this topic with Congress President Rahul Gandhi. They agreed that their parties would work together against the BJP at the national level regardless of the problems coming up in Assembly elections. The same is the case with the Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. Rahul Gandhi had also directed his party leaders to prepare for a flexible arrangement where the national level interests should be the main criterion.

Going by these indications, political circles are full of rumours that the TDP will fight the battle alone without any allies in the coming election. YSR Congress Party will also have to fight alone as any alliance with the BJP will hurt the electoral chances of both parties because of the prevailing anti-BJP mood in the state. It is only Pawan Kalyan who is tying up with the Left parties but this front is not a major contender for power.

Breaking: Sarve Sathyanarayana suspended from Congress Party

0

In a rather surprising movie, Congress party suspended its senior leader and former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana from the party. Party high command issued orders in this regard and disciplinary committee suspended him from the party .

During the party review meeting, Sarve satyanarayana brought up irrelevant topics and also made severe comments on party incharge Kunthiya and PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy. Moreover, as per reports, satyanarayana attacked Telangana PCC chief secretary Bollu Kishan, as per reports. Party high command took a serious note of this kind of behaviour from party leaders and recommended for immediate disciplinary action on Satyanarayana.

Satya Narayana is expected to convene a press meet today or tomorrow and explain his version. He was elected as MLA twice, as MP twice and served as minister once.

Bhupalapally Congress MLA rules out joining TRS

0

Hyderabad: Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, Congress MLA from Bhupalapally, has ruled out any possibility of joining Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), while agreeing that TRS is luring MLAs with attractive packages. People with some vested interests are spreading such rumours, he said.

“I will remain with Congress party, which gave me several positions such as party president for undivided Warangal, MLC, MLA and Chief Whip. Congress party is like my birth place and I will never leave it. I will fight on behalf of people for fulfilling poll promises by the TRS party,” said Reddy.

He is also open to justify the role of opposition leader in the House. Reddy on Congress ticket won from Bhupalapally with 69,918 votes, while TRS fell to third position in the constituency. With 54,283 votes, Gandra Satyanarayana Rao of All India Forward Block stood at second position and former Speaker Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary of TRS got 53,567 votes.

We’ll pull KCR into Congress fold, if needed: Komatireddy Rajagopala Reddy

0

Hyderabad: While ruling out joining TRS, Komatireddy Rajagopala Reddy said that Komatireddy brothers were not cowards and wouldn’t yield to pressure tactics of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Hence, the question of leaving Congress doesn’t arise, he asserted, while adding that “well pull KCR into Cognress fold if needed.”

Rajagopala Reddy won from Munugodu Assembly constituency in the recent elections, while his elder brother Komatireddy Venkata Reddy lost. Reddy condemned the reports that he would join TRS anytime.

“Becoming minister or holding important positions in the government are not my priority areas, but fulfilling the wishes of public. I’ll strive to get the things done for Munugodu constituency. During the TRS ruling, nothing was done. TRS party won by tampering EVMs only, but not by votes of people,” said Reddy.

KCR game plan: To win over 14 MLAs from Congress

0

The TRS is going to implement the same plan already carried out in Telangana Legislative Council in the Assembly also. CM K Chandrasekhara Rao has set a target to win over nearly 14 MLAs from the Congress so that the Congress Legislature Party will be merged with the TRS party. This will meet the two-thirds majority required for the merger as the Congress won 19 MLAs seats in 119-member House.

Once this game plan is successfully implemented, KCR will move to remove the Opposition party status to the Congress in the Assembly as well. Already, it has happened in the Council where four Congress MLCs have merged with the TRS reducing the Congress party without necessary number to enjoy the opposition party status.

With the TRS chief using all his tactics, the Congress leaders are not able to come out with suitable plans to counter KCR’s moves and strategies. Ever since the formation of separate Telangana, there is a reversal of roles between the Congress and the TRS. Prior to bifurcation, KCR told Sonia Gandhi that he would merge the TRS with the Congress party right after the Centre announced separate Telangana.
But once the Congress government formed separate state, the KCR party changed tactics and proposed an alliance after the polls. Later, KCR took a totally anti-Congress stand after coming to power and, now, the TRS chief is attacking the very existence of the Congress party in Telangana state.

Congress report blames itself for defeat in KCR hands?

0

An elaborate and comprehensive report is prepared by the Congress Telangana leadership on its failures that led to its defeat despite support from TDP, TJS and CPI allies. The report has blamed abnormal delay in finalising a deal with allies as one of the reasons for confusion in Prajakutami ground level workers. It also felt the finalisation of candidates should have been completed early to avoid group rivalries.

The Congress is doing a total post mortem on its disaster as it could win only 19 seats though it contested 99 seats out of the total 119 in the state. The allies first objected but later agreed for the Congress to contest in majority seats but still there was no favourable result. The Congress high command turned lot of attention on failures in Telangana as the party got better results in three northern states where it tamed the BJP.

The self-analysis has also revealed faults within the Congress strategy as the party has not stuck its policy of fielding strong candidates in all segments. In some constituencies, the high command bowed to pressure from senior leaders and stalwarts who got tickets for their followers. In others, rebels openly defied the party’s decisions and damaged Prakakutami candidates in some segments.

Because of delay in alliance and announcement of candidates, the Congress and allies could not take any advantage in election campaign while rival TRS finished several rounds of electioneering by that time.

Congress violated alliance dharma in Wyra segment?

0

There is a long established allegation against the Congress leaders that they fight among themselves and they don’t need outside enemies to defeat them. In many places, the Congress is charged with violating the Prajakutami alliance dharma that has eventually led to humiliating defeat of the allies in Telangana polls.

Now, CPI leader and Wyra Prajakutami candidate Banoth Vijaya Bayi came out openly criticising the Congress leaders for not giving required support to her as per the alliance dharma. The CPI leaders are viewing the absence of Congress support very seriously. Out of the 19 segments won by Congress, majority segments were located in united Khammam district. The CPI leaders say they have sincerely support Congress and ensured their victory but that was not reciprocated in Wyra segment.

Vijaya Bayi accused Congress leaders of supporting independent candidate which was why she lost the election but eve then she polled over 32,000 votes. He allegations were seen with seriousness as despite united effort by top leaders, the second rung leaders of Prajakutami have done their damage to allies.

Finally, lack of effective coordination has led to Prajakutami winning just 21 seats with the Congress ending up with just 19 while the TDP won 2 seats. The Telangana Jana Samithi of Professor Kodandaram and the CPI could not win a single seat. After initial shock from landslide victory of the TRS, the leaders of Prajakutami are coming out one by one with reasons behind their failure.

Tie-up with Congress badly hurt TDP chances

2

The TDP used to have a strong base in Telangana where the TDP founder NTR’s name still weaves magic. Such a party has ended up meeting with a humiliating defeat now. Even Chandrababu Naidu’s pro-IT industry image has not worked in Hyderabad. The moment the TDP tied up with the Congress, its fate was apparently sealed. The Telangana people have treated Congress as their enemy in statehood agitation and after, despite Sonia Gandhi conferring the statehood. The settlers also saw the Congress as their enemy for dividing the state arbitrarily.

When such are the feelings of different sections of voters, the TDP had tied up with the Congress in the absence of any other alternative. Following this, TDP has also become an enemy for both the settlers and the Telangana people. The saying that the enemy’s friend is also enemy has come true. This has eventually led to a situation where the TDP along with the Congress paid a heavy penalty.

There’s an opinion KCR has always tried to weaken the TDP and lure its leaders along with the cadres ever since the separation of the state. This is the reason why KCR repeatedly asks why Chandrababu still wants to put his finger in the Telangana politics. KCR has successfully attracted some TDP MLAs after 2014 polls and now he successfully eliminated any scope for the future ambitions of Naidu to revive the TDP there. Moreover, KCR threatens to interfere in AP politics in 2019.

TRS, Cong and TDP candidates gripped by fears of cross voting

0

With two days left for final counting day, the contesting candidates of both the ruling TRS and the opposition Congress allies are concerned about the likely impact of various issues especially money factor. They are all under the grip of fears of cross voting that voters resort to at the time of casting their votes. The cash distribution is the principal factor that influences voters who change their decision at the last minute.

The Telangana early polls have witnessed high-pitched battles between TRS and People’s Front candidates who mounted attacks against each other in media campaigns as well as in the use of community and money power. Many segments are expected to witness slender majorities for winning candidates below 3,000 or 2,000.

Usually, the political parties’ candidates will have an understanding on the pockets that favour them and those that dot not get influenced by them under any circumstances. But over the years, there are sections of voters who are accepting money from all sides and casting their votes as per their will.
Because of the cross voting factor, the major parties are unable to come to an idea to what extent the use of money by rivals will impact their chances. There are fears that candidates’ money may end up in the pockets of second-rung leaders who may not be faithful to their parties to the full. However, analysts say cross voting mars candidates’ chances only in a few segments and it will have an impact in overall fortunes of parties in government formation.

Uttam gives 75 to 86 to People’s Front, 35 or less for TRS

0

Congress leaders are exhibition renewed confidence in the victory of People’s Front in Telangana early poll. Congress Telangana President Uttam Kumar Reddy says their alliance will win 75 to 86 seats while the Telangana Rashtra Samithi will not cross 35 seats. Along with many senior Congress leaders, Uttam held a meeting on the post-poll scenario and discussed with his colleagues on how much majority their alliance would get.

Uttam Kumar said both TRS chief Chandrasekhara Rao and his son K Taraka Rama Rao boasted of their party winning 100 seats and more prior to polling but now they had changed that and began saying they would get 80 seats. But the ground reality was different and it was clear there was anti-incumbency factor because of the failure of KCR to fulfil his promises.

Uttam suggested several measures for ensuring fairness and transparency in the counting process to avoid all problems like those the cropped up on polling day. He suggested political parties’ representatives to be allowed to keep vigil at the strong rooms where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be placed which is necessary to avoid any suspicion.

Uttam felt the election machinery has committed many mistakes during the process of conducting elections for which even Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar has offered his apologies to the people and political parties. Talking about the positive feedback, Uttam thanked the voters and party cadres at all levels for their support in the Congress fight against all odds.

EC shunts out Telangana SP over Congress leader’s arrest

0

The Election Commission on Wednesday ordered the transfer of the Vikarabad Superintendent of Police T. Annapurna, a day after the state Congress Working President Revanth Reddy was arrested by the police.

The poll panel has posted Avinash Mohanthy as the new district Superintendent of Police.

The Election Commission directed the Telangana Director General of Police not to use the services of Annapurna for election purposes.

The action comes a day after Revanth Reddy, also a Congress candidate from Kodangal constituency, was arrested in a raid on his house past midnight.

Police said he was taken into preventive custody as he had threatened to disrupt the election rally of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao at Kosgi in Kodangal constituency.

Revanth was released after the rally of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief.

The Hyderabad High Court had faulted the Telangana Police for the manner in which Revanth was arrested and wondered if the state had become a banana republic.

The court on Tuesday had summoned the Advocate General to produce the evidence based on which the police acted against Revanth.

The High Court heard the Habeas Corpus petition filed by a Congress leader for a second consecutive day on Wednesday. A division bench of Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy summoned Director General of Police (DGP) Mahender Reddy and asked him to show the grounds on which the police arrested Revanth.

The DGP was also asked at which level the decision to arrest the Congress candidate was taken.

A lawyer of the petitioner told reporters that the court was not satisfied with the explanation and records provided by the DGP. It raised doubts on the veracity of a document from the intelligence department.

The court directed the DGP to file an affidavit and adjourned the hearing to December 17.

Telangana is going to the polls on December 7.

Kodangal sees all-out war between TRS and Congress

0

Telangana Congress Committee Working President Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal segment in Vikarabad district has become a hotbed of all out war between the ruling TRS and the main opposition Congress party. CM K Chandrasekhara Rao has turned special attention here and the TRS leaders have been creating some problem or the other like making police complaints and getting searches made in Revanth’s followers’ houses.

Consequently, Revanth’s followers have also taken a serious, aggressive stand challenging the TRS for a do or die battle. They called for a bandh to protest against the CM KCR’s public meeting in Kodangal. Revanth’s followers have also threatened to obstruct the CM’s meeting by issuing statements locally. Alarmed at the sudden turn of events, the TRS leaders have complained to the election authorities about this issue. The Election Commission has directed the DGP to look into the details and take suitable action on which a report may be sent to the EC as early as possible.

Though the TRS party is making all efforts, it is not able to gain a certain edge in Kodangal considering the huge following that Revanth has personally in the segment. The ruling party has put pressure on Revanth by making complaints and getting searches in the Congress activists’ homes that has met with serious backlash. With the situation turning volatile as of now, the election officials are preparing to take additional steps for ensuring law and order.

Revanth himself squatted on the road amid raising of slogans by his followers when he objected to the police conducting searches and harassing women members of Congress activists’ families. The election war reached a flash point now with both TRS and Congress cadres challenging each other to gain an upper hand.

Congress implements ‘Gujarat Formula’ in Telangana!

0

The Congress party, which is leading Prajakutami with the alliance of TDP, TJS and CPI, is implementing ‘Gujarat Formula’ in Telangana state to defeat the ruling TRS Party.

Though the Formula did not give power in Gujarat to the party, it gained more votes and gave big-shock to the ruling party BJP in the state, which is native of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

In Gujarat Assembly polls, the Congress gave tickets to mass leaders Mr. Alhesh Thakur, Dalit Leader Mr. Jignesh Mevani and Patidar Movement leader Mr. Harthik Patel. Similarly, the congress is taking support of few prominent Dalit, BC and Mass leaders in Telangana state. Though the Mass Singer Mr. Gaddar is not contesting in the election, he is campaigning with his songs for Prajakutami. Another Dalit Leader Mr. Manda Krishna Madiga had also extended his support to the Congress Party and gave a call to all the Dalits in the state to support to Prajakutami. Prominent leaders from BC community Mr. R.Krishnaiah and Mr. Kasani Gnaneswar were given tickets from the Congress at the last moment before the deadline of nominations. While Krishnaiah is contesting from Miryalaguda segment, Mr. Kasani is in poll-fight from Secunderabad constituency and contesting against Minister Mr. Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

Apart from the strength of other parties like TDP, TJS and CPI, the Congress is expecting a great majority and victory in the T-polls with the support of the four mass leaders.

Azharuddin named Telangana Congress working president

0

The Congress on Friday appointed former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin as the working president of the party’s Telangana unit.

The move is being perceived at placating the former parliamentarian who is said to have been unhappy the way the party was treating him.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh but lost the 2014 polls from Rajasthan’s Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency.

The Congress also announced B.M. Vinod Kumar and Jaffer Javed as the state unit’s Vice Presidents.
