Mahasena Rajesh: Twists and Turns in the Political Journey of Dalit Leader

Saripella Rajesh, better known as Mahasena Rajesh, emerged as a prominent Dalit activist in this era of Social media. However, his recent decision to withdraw from the electoral contest in the P Gannavaram constituency has become the talk of the town in Andhra Pradesh and raised questions about the intersection of caste, politics, and personal integrity.

Rajesh’s Affiliation with YSRCP before 2019:

Initially aligned with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), Rajesh garnered attention for his vocal stance against upper-caste oppression. His pro-Dalit organization, Mahasena, supported the YSRCP during the 2019 elections, amplifying its campaign through social media platforms. YSRCP did not care about the comments he made regarding caste oppression and his anti-upper caste remarks while joining him and taking his support for campaigning in the 2019 elections.

The shift in Loyalties: From Jagan to Pawan

Post-2019, Rajesh’s relationship with the YSRCP soured, leading to his departure from the party. He became a vocal critic of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration, drawing the ire of the ruling party, which filed legal cases against him. Despite facing adversity, Rajesh found solace in supporting Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena Party, earning popularity for his social media posts critiquing the government’s policies.

Failed attempt to join Janasena:

Speculations arose regarding Rajesh’s potential alliance with Janasena, fueled by his public altercation with alleged YSRCP supporters. However, despite initial interest from Pawan Kalyan, Rajesh’s association with controversy, including his ownership of a luxurious Audi car, hindered his inclusion in the party.

Opportunity in TDP:

Seeking refuge, Rajesh turned to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), where he found support from Chandrababu Naidu, who recognized his fighting spirit. Promised an MLA ticket, Rajesh received the nomination from P Gannavaram, igniting a series of political attacks from opponents who resurfaced his past comments and made his old videos viral on social media to damage the prospects of Rajesh and TDP.

Voluntary Withdrawal:

Amid mounting pressure and allegations, Rajesh voluntarily withdrew from the electoral race, citing the exploitation of his identity for political gains. His decision sparked debates about caste-based politics and the integrity of political alliances. While TDP cadres accuse the YSRCP of orchestrating Rajesh’s downfall, the future of his candidacy remains uncertain, pending a decision from Chandrababu Naidu. TDP followers support Rajesh and argue that YSRCP leaders intentionally mud-slinging at him as his candidature ensures the defeat of the YSRCP candidate in the constituency.

As the electoral drama unfolds, Rajesh’s withdrawal underscores the challenges Dalit activists face navigating the volatile landscape of Indian politics.

No power on earth can stifle my voice, declares Lokesh

1

“This is my late grandfather, NT Rama Rao’s, voice and no power on earth can stifle my voice,” declared TDP general secretary, Nara Lokesh, on Tuesday.

Addressing mammoth public meeting at Gannavaram as part of Yuva Galam pada yatra, Lokesh said that this a land which has given birth to the historic personality, late NT Rama Rao, who has taken the self-respect of the Telugus to global level. An overwhelmed Lokesh is confident that Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, will get washed out in this hurricane of massive turn out of youth.

Terming Jagan a coward, Lokesh pointed out that when Jagan had undertaken pada yatra the then TDP government did not create any obstructions and in fact, provided maximum security for him. “But when I started my Yuva Galam he started shivering and he instigated the police to create all sorts of trouble. Despite these problems I am continuing my pada yatra and no power on earth can stop it,” he declared.

Stating that Jagan is making Rs 3 cr per day through mafia which is Rs 90 cr per month, Lokesh made it clear that soon after the TDP comes back to power the sand, iron and cement prices will be reduced to make them closer to the common man. Making fun of the proposal to provide sticks to the pilgrims of Tirumala, the TDP national general secretary threw a challenge to the Tadepalle Palace whether the insiders too can carry sticks if a tiger enters the area.

Declaring that the coming TDP regime will provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all farm products, Lokesh dared the Ministers from Krishna district to come for an open debate on the development of the district. “I am asking you to come for a debate on under whose tenure the Krishna district witnessed progress,” Lokesh said.

Making it clear that the TDP will win the Gannavaram Assembly segment in the coming polls, Lokesh said the party will further develop the area. “Elect the TDP candidates from all the 16 Assembly constituencies and I am promising you that the Chintalapudi project will be completed and irrigation water will be supplied to the entire combined Krishna district,” he said.

Assuring the gathering that Bandar Port too will be completed and underground drainage will be constructed in Vijayawada, Lokesh said that all other pending projects will be taken up besides the capital city of Amaravati will also be completed.

Venkatrao declares his candidature from Gannavaram

0

Ruling YSR Congress leader Yarlagadda Venkatrao declared his candidature from the party for the 2024 general election from Gannavaram Assembly constituency in Krishna district. He lost the seat in the 2019 general election to TDP’s Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan.

After the YSR Congress formed the government, Vamsi had become an associate member of the ruling party and distanced himself from the TDP. Though he had been working with the ruling party, he did not build peace with Venkatrao and senior leader Dr Dutta Ramachandra Rao.

These two leaders have been opposing the entry of Vamsi into the party. Though Jagan Mohan Reddy held two rounds of meetings with them and told them to accept Vamsi in the party, things didn’t go well.

There has been a fight between Venkatrao and Vamsi in the constituency and are leading two separate groups of their own with the party supporters. It is said that Vamsi would be the YSR Congress candidate for the 2024 general election as chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is in his favour.

However, Venkatrao, on Monday declared his candidature from the party for the next election. He said he would contest the election from Gannavaram and there was no going back on the proposal. He turned down the rumours of joining the opposition TDP. He said he would stay with the YSR Congress and contest the election.

Venkatrao also said that he would soon meet the chief minister and give his mind. He said he would insist upon his candidature for Gannavaram seat when he meets the chief minister.

To a question whether he would contest as independent, if the YSR Congress denied ticket, Venkatrao said that he would be the candidate for the Gannavaram assembly constituency either from the YSR Congress or as independent.

0

The TDP office in Gannavaram town of Krishna district was attacked by miscreants who destroyed the furniture in the office and set a car on fire. The attackers were identified as the followers of local MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi.

Vamsi had criticised TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh two days ago, following which the TDP leaders returned the criticism. Irked at TDP leaders criticising the MLA, his supporters attacked the party office on Monday.

Former chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu condemned the attack and demanded that action should be taken against the attackers. He also asked the Governor to intervene in the atrocities being indulged in by the ruling YSRCP leaders.

Chandrababu Naidu said that Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, will certainly fall victim to his barbarous acts. What the police are doing when the ruling YSRCP leaders are indulging in such heinous acts, he asked.

Observing that there is no law and order in the State, Chandrababu Naidu expressed surprise whether the police department is totally closed or merged into YSRCP. ”Monday’s incidents are classic examples of the faction mindset of Jagan Mohan Reddy,” the TDP supremo maintained and demanded that the State Governor interfere into the incidents and initiate stringent action against the culprits.

Nirmala Sitharaman meets Gannavaram farmers

1

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday visited a remote village in Vijayawada and met farmers to find out the problems faced by them.

Nirmala Sitharaman met farmers in Jukkala Nekkalam village in Gannavaram and reviewed the minimum support price for their yield and the market conditions in view of the pandemic situation. The farmers apprised the finance minister that they were not getting MSP on their farm produce, mainly on paddy and sugarcane. The farmers put forth various demands, including Rs 2,000 MSP per quintal on paddy. The finance minister informed that the central government has introduced farm bills and many of their problems will be sorted out. She was accompanied by various state BJP leaders, including party president Somu Veeraju, former president Kanna Laxminarayana, party state affairs-in-charge Sunil Deodhar, MLC P V N Madhav among others.

Sitharaman’s visit to Gannavaram comes at a time when farmers of Amaravati region have been agitating against the Jagan government over the three capitals bill for the past nearly 300 days. Farmers of Amaravati region villages have given almost 34,000 acres of land for the development of capital for the state in Amaravati. Several farmers in Gannavaram gave away their lands for the development of the airport under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).

Nirmala Sitharaman’s visit to Gannavaram could kick up a fresh row. Her visit may not go down well with the YSRCP leaders. Earlier, she was criticized for advising the Andhra Pradesh government to rethink on cancelling various agreements which have international funding. She was of the view that cancelling agreements would have serious implications on the country’s investment prospects. She had also observed that the AP government was not utilizing the power supplied by the central generating stations. She criticized the government for supplying power at Rs 9 per unit when the central government, through its generation stations, is offering it at Rs 2.7 per unit.
