Munugode defeat a blow to BJP’s Telangana plans

1

Failure of BJP to repeat its Huzurabad success in Munugode has dealt a blow to its efforts to emerge as the only viable alternative to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and gain a psychological edge ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.

It’s no secret that imposing a by-election in Munugode was a calculated move by the BJP to ride on Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy’s popularity in the constituency to score a hat-trick of bypoll victories and send a message that it alone can defeat the KCR-led government.

The importance attached to this bypoll by the BJP was evident from the fact that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had personally visited Munugode to welcome Rajagopal Reddy into BJP and urged people to elect him. Shah had also predicted that within a month of Rajagopal’s win, the TRS government in the state would collapse.

The BJP was confident as a similar strategy had paid off in Huzurabad last year. Eatala Rajender, who had defected to the BJP after being dropped from the state Cabinet, won the seat as BJP candidate in the election held last year. This was a personal victory for Rajender, who has been representing the seat since 2009.

Cashing in on the public support he enjoyed in the constituency, Rajender retained the seat. However, the BJP used this win to project itself as a potent political force which can challenge TRS.

Huzurabad win came a year after the BJP won the first by-election in Dubbak by a narrow margin to wrest the seat from TRS. After this win, though considered by many as a flash in the pan, BJP started to see a realistic chance of emerging as a key force.

This was followed by BJP’s impressive performance in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Election (GHMC). The party, which roped in its top central leaders including Amit Shah and party president J. P. Nadda, running an aggressive campaign, drastically improved its tally in the 150-member municipal body to 48 from just four in the previous elections.

In the 2018 Assembly elections held a few months before they were originally scheduled, TRS had retained power by winning 88 seats. BJP could win just one seat. It finished second in only nine constituencies and in most of the seats its candidates forfeited the deposit.

However, BJP sprang a surprise in Lok Sabha elections held a few months later. The party not only retained Secunderabad but also wrested three other seats from TRS – Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad.

The victories in Dubbak and Huzurabad Assembly by-elections and the good show in GHMC polls further boosted the morale of the saffron party. It increased the focus on the state with ‘Mission 2023′ to come to power in Telangana and make it the second gateway to South India for the party after Karnataka.

As part of this strategy, BJP held the national executive in Hyderabad in June this year. A series of visits by top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and J. P. Nadda to Telangana before and after the national executive lifted the spirits of BJP cadres.

With KCR stepping up its attacks on Narendra Modi and BJP and deciding to enter national politics, the BJP leadership tried to take the fight to his home turf to checkmate him.

Luring Rajagopal Reddy to join its ranks and imposing a by-election in Munugode is believed to be a part of this strategy.

The TRS went all out to prevent a repeat of Huzurabad and thus put brakes on the saffron surge. KCR’s party aexposed’ Rajagopal Reddy citing his own admission in an interview that his family firm Sushi Infra bagged Rs.18,000 crore contract from the Centre.

TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao went to the extent of claiming that Rajagopal Reddy assured Amit Shah that he will spend Rs 500 crore to win the bypoll.

The arrest of three alleged BJP agents in Hyderabad on October 26 while trying to buy four MLAs of the TRS caused embarrassment to the saffron party in the midst of the poll campaign.

Though the BJP leaders called the MLAs poaching case a drama orchestrated by KCR due to fear of defeat in Munugode, the saffron party has gone on the defensive.

KCR claims to have not only foiled the BJP’s conspiracy to topple his government but also collected evidence of its plans to topple governments in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

With KCR determined to press for a thorough investigation into the explosive admissions made by the BJP agents and taking the issue to the national level by appealing to the Chief Justice of India, other Supreme Court judges and chief justices of all high courts to save democracy in the country, the BJP may find the going tough in foreseeable future.

T’gana: BJP candidate in Munugode faces protests

1

BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy faced protest from supporters of Congress, TRS and CPI on Saturday during the campaign for Munugode Assembly by-election.

The protesters raised slogans against Rajagopal Reddy for imposing a by-election on the people of Munugode after bagging Rs 18,000 crore contract from the Centre.

They stopped the vehicle of Rajagopal Reddy and other BJP leaders and questioned him about his move to quit as MLA and resign from Congress party to join the BJP.

The Congress workers alleged that Rajagopal Reddy betrayed the people after they voted and elected him in the 2018 elections.

The incident occurred in Kothulapuram in Samsthan Narayanpur ‘mandal’ (block) when Rajagopal Reddy was campaigning.

Rajagopal Reddy is at the receiving end ever since he admitted during an interview to a television channel that his company bagged Rs 18,000 crore contract six months ago.

He resigned from Congress and also as MLA in July and joined the BJP in August during a public meeting addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Munugode.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Congress have been targeting him for switching loyalties for the sake of contract. TRS leaders have alleged that Rajagopal Reddy promised to Amit Shah that he will spend Rs 500 crore to win the by-election.

Wall posters targeting the BJP candidate over the contract have already appeared in the constituency.

Fresh posters were seen in the constituency on Saturday. Unidentified persons pasted the posters on behalf of people of Huzurabad and Dubbak constituencies. They appealed to voters of Munugode not to get cheated like them.

The BJP had won Dubbak and Huzurabad seats in the by-elections in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Meanwhile, BJP MP K. Laxman alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was afraid of defeat in Munugode.

He said out of this fear, Chief Minister KCR joined hands with the Communist parties. He said KCR had once described the Left parties as waste parties but has now joined hands with the same parties.

The Rajya Sabha member predicted that like in Huzurabad and Dubbak, the TRS will face anti-incumbency.

The BJP leader said the fear of TRS is also reflected from the fact that all ministers and 86 MLAs were camping in the constituency.

Rs 18K crore contract takes centre stage in T’gana’s Munugode bypoll

0

The Rs 18,000 crore contract received by the company of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy appears to have taken the centre stage of the election campaign in Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana.

Both the ruling Rashtra Samithi Samithi (TRS) and opposition Congress are trying to derive political mileage by slamming Rajagopal Reddy for selling himself to the BJP for the contract.

Rajagopal Reddy, who resigned from the Congress recently, is contesting the November 3 by-election as a BJP candidate.

In an interview to a Telugu channel, Rajagopal Reddy admitted that his infrastructure firm bagged Rs 18,000 contract in competition.

Both TRS and Congress have been slamming him for imposing a by-election on Munugode for the sake of the contract.

The ruling party has even offered to withdraw from the contest if the Centre provides Rs 18,000 crore for the development of the constituency and Nalgonda district.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said on Tuesday that the TRS will withdraw its candidate if the BJP government at the Centre comes forward to provide the amount equal to the contract given to Rajagopal Reddy for the development of Munugode.

KTR said as working president of the party he is committed to the word given by energy minister Jagadish Reddy that TRS will withdraw its candidate if the Centre gives Rs 18,000 crore for the development of Nalgonda.

He said by buying a contractor, the BJP was hoping to buy the people of Munugode as a commodity. He reiterated the allegation that Rajagopal Reddy has promised to the BJP leadership that he will spend Rs 500 crore in the by-election.

“This by-election is a fight between Narendra Modi’s arrogance and the self-respect of the people of Munugode,” he said.

Meanwhile, wall posters have come up in the constituency, highlighting how Rajagopal Reddy switched loyalties to the BJP after bagging Rs 18,000 crore contract.

The posters have come up in the format of a digital payment app. Using a fictitious name ContractPe, it declares that Rs 18,000 crore contract awarded to Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. The poster mentions Transaction ID as ‘BJP18thousandcrores’.

A video of the fictitious digital transaction of Rs 18,000 crore from the BJP to Rajagopal Reddy was also uploaded from the official Twitter handle of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.

The TRS has already urged the Election Commission of India to disqualify Rajagopal Reddy from the by-election as he was awarded the massive contract to lure him to switch loyalties.

TRS leader and finance minister Harish Rao had claimed that the BJP has booked 200 Brezza cars and hundreds of motorcycles to buy leaders from other parties in the constituency.

On October 8, Rajagaopal Reddy had threatened to file a defamation suit against KTR for making the allegation. The BJP leader said he is giving 24 hours time to prove his allegation.

Rajagopal Reddy was reacting to an earlier tweet by KTR. “Quid pro quo – open confession of the BJP MLA candidate from Munugode. His company gets a massive Rs. 18,000 crore contract from and in return he joins BJP,” wrote KTR

KTR posted a clip of a video clip from a debate on a Telugu television channel. During the debate, Rajagopal Reddy revealed that the company received a contract worth Rs 18,000 crore in competition about six months ago while he has been talking of joining BJP for the last three years.

Rajagopal Reddy resigns from Telangana Assembly

0

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy on Monday resigned from the Telangana Assembly.

The MLA from Munugode submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

This came nearly a week after he announced the decision to resign both from the Congress party and the Assembly.

Rajagopal Reddy told the reporters that the Speaker accepted his resignation.

Reddy, who has already decided to join the BJP, claimed that several leaders of the Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) were in touch with him.

Before submitting his resignation to the Speaker, Rajagopal Reddy offered tributes at Telangana martyrs’ memorial at Gun Park near the Assembly.

He alleged that the TRS has become a party of Telangana traitors. He said some leaders who became ministers were against statehood to Telangana.

Rajagopal Reddy said he resigned from the Congress and decided to join the BJP to launch a battle to free Telangana from the clutches of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He said this battle would begin with the by-election to Munugode Assembly seat. He exuded confidence that the people of Munugode will deliver a historic verdict to back him in this fight against TRS and KCR.

He claimed that CM KCR denied him appointment when he wanted to meet him to discuss the development of Munugode.

Rajagopal Reddy said KCR and his family were looting Telangana.

He reiterated that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah can put an end to the anarchic rule of the TRS.

Telangana MLA Rajagopal Reddy to join BJP on Aug 21

0

Three days after announcing his resignation from the Congress party, MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy said he would be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 21.

He said he would be formally joining the saffron party in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a meeting in Telangana.

Rajagopal Reddy made the announcement in Delhi after meeting Shah. The MLA was accompanied by BJP’s national executive member Vivek Venkatswamy.

The MLA from Munugode said Amit Shah invited him to join the party and he accepted the invitation.

He said he would meet Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on August 8 and submit his resignation from the Assembly.

He predicted that the by-election to Munugode constituency will bring a big change in Telangana. He said he was not going for the by-election for his own sake but wanted to bring a change in the state politics.

He exuded confidence that the people of Munugode will give a mandate to change the course of state politics.

Rajagopal Reddy hoped that his brother and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy would also take an appropriate decision in future.

Stating that a wrong man has been appointed as Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Rajagopal Reddy remarked that those who have self-respect will not stay in the party.

He once again challenged TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy to prove the allegations made against him

Rajagopal Reddy had Tuesday announced his decision to resign both from the party and the Assembly.

He had said that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah can put an end to anarchic rule of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

He claimed that his decision was for the sake of Munugode and its people as the TRS leaders have been saying that the constituency will see development only in the event of a by-election.

Telangana Congress MLA appears set to join BJP

1

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, a rebel Congress MLA from Telangana, appears to have finally made up his mind to switch his loyalties to the BJP.

A member of Telangana Legislative Assembly from Munugode, he made it clear that his resignation and the by-election are certain.

Though senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, on the direction of the Congress leadership, had invited Reddy to New Delhi for talks, the rebel MLA ignored the invite and late Friday night issued a statement.

Rajagopal Reddy announced that he would be sounding the war bugle against the “corrupt and family rule” of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

He vowed to liberate the state from the clutches of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the KCR family, who he alleged to have amassed massive wealth and pushed the state into a debt spiral.

Rajagopal Reddy said he would not compromise on his mission to free Telangana from the misrule and corruption of TRS.

Responding to allegations against him, he said his aim was not to serve his own interests.

In a clear hint that he will soon be joining the BJP, the rebel MLA said his decision was being welcomed by all including the people of Munugode.

The legislator said the efforts to form a people’s government would begin from Munugode.

He declared that the next elections would be between the Pandavas and Kouravas, and that the Chief Minister and his “money-distributing army” will face defeat.

He also accused KCR of deliberately ignoring development of Munugode ever since he was elected from there. He alleged that the government was deliberately not completing the SLBC and Brahmana Vellamla projects.

“I had said last year itself that I was ready to resign from my post, if the State government worked to fulfil the aspirations of Dalits, STs, BCs, minorities and other sections. I’m not someone who goes back on his words,” Rajagopal wrote.

Ever since his meeting with Union Home minister Amit Shah a few days ago, Rajagopal Reddy stepped up attacks on the Congress party.

He stated that only BJP is capable of defeating TRS.

He had also remarked that if summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should appear before it.

The Central leadership of the Congress party took serious note of his remarks but avoided taking any strong action. The leadership had asked Digvijay Singh to hold talks with Rajagopal Reddy to persuade him to stay in the party.

However, by avoiding the meeting he has sent clear signals that he will quit Congress and join BJP.

Though the MLA had been making bitter attack on the party, the leadership was handling the issue carefully in view of the fact that his brother Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is a MP in the party.

The party had earlier sent Congress Legislative Party (CLP) chief Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to meet the rebel MLA and pacify him.

The CLP leader, however, failed in his efforts.

Telangana Congress MLA launches fresh attack on party

0

Telangana Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy on Monday once again targetted his own party even as the leadership is mulling discipilnary action.

Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday met Rajgopal Reddy, apparently to pursuade him to drop his plans to leave the party and join the BJP.

The meeting lasted for more than three hours but there was no change in Rajgopal Reddy. Talking to reporters after the meeting, the rebel MLA alleged that the Congress party has no leaders who fought for statehood to Telangana.

He said those facing criminal cases were given key posts in the party. The MLA said it was a fact that the BJP is becoming stronger in the state.

Rajgopal Reddy’s fresh attack came even as the party leadership has taken serious of the comments made by him on Sunday. Party incharge for Telangana, Manickam Tagore is reported to be mulling strong action against the MLA for anti-party activities.

Rajgopal Reddy on Sunday dropped hints that he will soon switch loyalties to the BJP.

The member of Telangana Assembly from Munugode constituency, said that only BJP can defeat the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

The Congress leader also remarked that switching loyalties is a historic necessity. He told media persons that he feels that the time has come to move to another party.

The Congress MLA said if people of Munugode want, there will be a by-election in the constituency.

The MLA said the Congress leadership took some wrong decisions which weakened the party. He said that the Congress is not in a position to take on the TRS.

Without naming Telangana Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy, he said that he can’t work under those who had gone to jail.

Rajgopal Reddy and his brother Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who is a Congress MP, had openly criticised the appointment of Revanth Reddy as the party chief last year.

While Venkat Reddy recently mended fences with Revanth Reddy, his brother remained a bitter critic.

Cong MLA meets KCR at Pragathi Bhavan, raises political heat

1

Congress MLA from Munugode Assembly constituency, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy created a flutter in political circles on Thursday (today) when he met TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao.

Rajagopal Reddy met KCR at CM’s official residence cum camp office Pragathi Bhavan in Begumpet, Hyderabad.

Rajagopal’s meeting fuelled speculations that he is all set to quit Congress and join TRS anytime soon.

This is because Rajagopal Reddy has been staying away from Congress activities since June this year when party high command appointed A.Revanth Reddy as new TPCC chief in the place of N.Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Angered at this, Rajagopal Reddy along with his brother, Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy are staying away from party activities and not visiting Gandhi Bhavan. They are confined to their respective constituencies.

However, Venkat Reddy recently attended a protest programme held by TPCC chief A.Revanth Reddy at Indira Park, Hyderabad, on paddy procurement issue. Komatireddy announced to work with Revanth in the interests of the party.

This left Rajagopal Reddy shocked. He did not issue any statement so far extending his support to Revanth Reddy or his brother Venkat Reddy.

Against this backdrop, Rajagopal Reddy meeting KCR at Pragathi Bhavan has raised political heat in Telangana.

But Rajagopal Reddy later claimed that he met KCR only to invite him for his son’s wedding this month and there is no political significance to this meeting.

But KCR never gave appointment to opposition MLAs to meet him at Pragathi Bhavan. This triggered more speculations over Rajagopal’s future political moves.

Komatireddy lauds Sharmila: Is Revanth Reddy the real target?

0

Why did Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy express his support to Sharmila’s deeksha in Munugode? He has not given any indication that he would leave the Congress or join Sharmila’s party, but he has lauded her deeksha on the issue of joblessness in Telangana. He even made a phone call and said that her protest deeksha was timely.

Those in the know say that Komatireddy’s phone conversation with Sharmila is mainly meant to tease and taunt Revanth Reddy. In fact, Sharmila had personally called them up and asked them to join hands with her. But, the Komatireddy brothers simply said “No Thank you.” The same Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy was effusive in his praise of Sharmila now. Sources say that he was indirectly sending signals to Revanth Reddy that there is an alternative leadership for the Reddy community.

Interestingly, Rajagopal Reddy’s brother Komatireddy Venkat Reddy personally went to the JRC Convention Centre, where Sharmila’s party YSRTP was launched. He congratulated her and came back. This has happened after he was bypassed for the TPCC chief post over Revanth Reddy. This was mainly meant to show anger and displeasure against the Congress high command, which cold-shouldered him. Both he and Rajagopal Reddy have invoked YSR and said that he still lives in their hearts.

Both the brothers were very careful not to overstep the party line. Even while staying well within the party line, they challenged Revanth Reddy’s leadership. At the same time, they have indicated that the Reddy community has an alternative in the form of Sharmila. This is being seen as an indirect signal to Revanth Reddy that he alone is not a symbol of Reddy politics in Telangana. Clearly, the Komatireddys are not yet reconciled to Revath Reddy’s appointment as the TPCC chief. They are showing their displeasure by speaking in support of Sharmila sometimes and BJP yet other times.

T-BJP next target is Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy

1

BJP has focused on strengthening their party in Telangana. After finalising joining of Eetela, now the Telangana BJP leaders are focusing on pulling some more strong leaders of other parties into their forte. Details as below.

BJP national vice president DK Aruna met Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy yesterday. The two leaders held talks for almost four hours. Reportedly, DK Aruna invited Congress MLA Rajagopal Reddy to join the BJP and MLA Rajgopal Reddy told DK Aruna that he would announce his decision soon. In fact Rajagopal Reddy held discussions with bjp leaders long back and even made some pro BJP statements but later he back tracked on his decision. But now DK Aruna is trying to address his concerns and ensure he joins the party. A few days back, DK Aruna also met former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and invited him to join the BJP but he wanted buy some time.

We need to wait and see whether joining of these leaders strengthen the BJP party or not.
