Story:
‘Happy Birthday’ is a new age fictional comedy genre film and the story in unconventional. Defense minister Rithvik Sodhi (Vennela Kishore) leads the movement to amend the Gun laws in India. As a result, gun culture flourishes across the nation and everyone carries a gun or an assault rifle. Set in Hyderabad, the story revolves around the Ritz Hotel. The hotel house keeper (Naresh Agastya) has been hired to replace a lighter which holds significance in the story. Pasupuleti Happy Tripati (Lavanya Tripathi) enters into the pub, gets kidnapped by the guys searching for the lighter. There are other fun threads parallel to the main actors. There is a Russian element added to the core story. Rest of the film revolves around the vault.

Analysis: 

Director ‘Ritesh Rana’ repeates his debut film ‘Mathu Vadalara’s screenplay format in ‘Happy Birthday’ as well. The story has been narrated from the characters’ point of view, periodically the story takes different dimension as and when a new character / chapter is introduced. Linking back the new character to the main story in this manner, Taking the proceedings further is an uphill task. Ritesh has mastered this unique method. His subtle punches on various aspects are good but appeal to limited urban audience. Chapters are named after the main characters as Happy , Lucky , Max Pain, BABY and Serena William etc. Vennela Kishore interview is funny, satire on the pub management scenes work, the dialogues on pub customers who are pseudo rich came out well. The three sisters video call with their brother is an extension to the Mathu Vadalara film’s satire on TV serials. But this time the satire fails to generate the intended effect, ends up counterproductive.
The second half is a boring affair after the vault concept begins, gets redundant with Lavanya Tripathi ‘s Jail episodes. Few scenes in climax phase generate some comedy but audience will not be in a mood to enjoy by then.

Comedian Satya steals the show, Vennela Kishore ‘s role as a person with transgender characteristics is just okay. Lavanya Tripathi is good fit for the role. Naresh Agastya did perform well.

The art work, set designs are good and match the director’s vision of a quirky film, the music by Kala Bhairava is out of the box to match the theme.

Positives:

-Good production values
-Subtle sarcasm filled dialogues
-Smart screenplay

Negatives:

– Over the top redundant scenes
-Heroine thread is half baked and boring
-Second half lacks any substance

Verdict:

‘Happy Birthday’ is an unconventional film which works partly for a limited set of audience. The director has succeeded in delivering sarcastic humor in an engaging manner in the first half, the screenplay has been smart. But the eccentricity crosses the limit, story goes into boring phase in second half. Overall, a costly futile attempt !

Mathu Vadalara fame Ritesh Rana’s second direction venture, Happy Birthday is releasing on July 8th. Lavanya Tripathi plays titular role in the crazy comedy entertainer. The actress has interacted with the press on this occasion.

“I liked the story genre when Ritesh Rana narrated the story. My character, comedy, storyline, and working with Mythri Movie Makers have all excited me. Also doing action excited me big time,” Lavanya said about how she came on board for the film.

The actress says Happy character is close to her real life. “I am jovial in real life. People think otherwise because I played a serious role in my first film. Ritesh Rana saw my actual side in a show and came up with this idea. I do gym and boxing. So, the character became easy,” she said.

Lavanya also sounded very confident about the film. “It will be a blockbuster content too. It will be interesting and funny. Since it is set up in a surreal world, we do not go into logics as well. This is one film which I enjoyed a lot while doing. Only struggle is carrying those heavy guns,” the actress told.

Lavanya says she has finished shooting for a Tamil film starring Atharva and also has web series, Puli Meka with Zee5.

The makers of Happy Birthday have arrived with theatrical trailer of the movie that has been launched by star director SS Rajamouli. The trailer offers non-stop entertainment and the genre of the movie is revealed in the start as a surreal comedy. It’s double the fun that of the teaser.

As earlier revealed in the teaser, gun bill was passed, and everyone is allowed to carry guns. The trailer gives much more clarity about the content and nature of the movie. Various people meet at a birthday party and there’s no entry without guns. While different characters are introduced, everyone is waiting to meet the villain.

Ritesh Rana has come up with an out of the box concept and he assures never before kind of entertainment. Lavanya Tripathi, Vennela Kishore, Satya and every other actor generated laughs. Kaala Bhairava’s bgm is unique.

The film is produced by Clap Entertainment, while Mythri Movie Makers is presenting it. Happy Birthday will hot the screens on July 8th.

The makers of ‘Happy Birthday’, starring Lavanya Tripathi in an atypical role, released the teaser earlier on Tuesday.

While the title ‘Happy Birthday’ sounded gentle, the poster’s theme was quite a contrast. The teaser for the film has been dropped, continuing to astound the audience.

The teaser begins by introducing Vennela Kishore who plays a union minister who proposes the Gun Bill, which is a law that regulates the purchase, sale, manufacture, and use of firearms.

And the Bill has been passed by the Parliament, allowing the country’s gun culture to flourish.

People flock to gun bazaars because they are fascinated by weapons. Meanwhile, a birthday party with a gun theme is held. Without a gun, there is no way to get into the party. When a special team arrives for the party, the two sides engage in a massive firefight.

The fictional world of director Ritesh Rana is a mad rush of sorts, with some crazy happenings in every frame. Characters are also introduced in an unusual way.

South actress Lavanya Tripathi says the quarantine time has made her revisit a couple of years old photoshoot pictures.

Lavanya took to Instagram, where she posted a picture of herself. She is seen dressed in a beige top, her hair is tied up to a messy bun. She completed her look with minimum make-up.

“Throwing back like never before.. Lol this quarantine period has made me revisit a couple of years old photoshoot pictures.. Pictures I thought weren’t good enough, but now I’m starting to like them. This is how quickly we change as a person,” Lavanya wrote alongside the image.

She added: “It’s better not to remain angry or sad about anything for too long, because in a couple of years you’ll grow out of it.. And the same petty things that made you angry or sad, will make you laugh.”

Lavanya made a name for herself with films like “Doosukeltha”, “Bramman” and “Bhale Bhale Magadivoy”, “Srirastu Subhamastu”, “Yuddham Sharanam” and “Antariksham 9000 KMPH” among many others.

The actress will next be seen in Telugu film, “A1 Express”, co-starring Sundeep Kishan. The film, which is reportedly a remake of the 2019 Tamil film “Natpe Thunai”, is directed by Dennis Jeevan Kanukolanu.

GST raids on Tollywood actress Lavanya Tripathi

Tollywood industry in Hyderabad was shocked with GST raids on Friday.

The Director General of GST intelligence sleuths along with GST commissionarate officials of Hyderabad on Friday conducted searches on Tollywood actress Lavanya Tripathi and found service tax evasion of around Rs 20 lakh.

GST official sources said that searches are conducted at 23 locations in Hyderabad consecutively for the third day.

The raids were conducted on various sectors including entertainment, media houses, financial services, consultancy, infra companies and fitness centres.

The sleuths searched the house of Lavanya Tripathi who recently acted in lead female role in Arjun Survaram starring Nikhil.

Though Lavanya is Uttarkhand born, she is staying in Hyderabad as she is busy in Tollywood films with several offers.

She acted in noted films like Arjun Suravaram, Antariksham 9000 kmph, Parvathi(Paroo), Dharma Bhai, Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi, Yuddham Sharanam, Maayavan, Radha, Mister, Srirastu Subhamastu, Lacchimdeviki O Lekkundi, Sokkali Mainor, Bale Bale Magadivoy, Chalien School, Bramman, Doosukeltha and Andala Rakshasi. Lavanya who started her film career in 2012, acted in Tamil Films as well.
