Actors Mahesh Babu, Khusbhu Sundar, Mammootty and Mohanlal were among those who wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday on the occasion of his 72nd birthday.

Taking to Twitter, Telugu star Mahesh Babu said: “Birthday greetings to our hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi! Wishing you great health, happiness and continued success.”

Actress and producer Khushbu, who is also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said: “You need a vision. You need a will. You ought to have a dream. You need determination to bring in a change. And you have it all Sir.

“Thank you for transforming India into a nation to reckon with. Gratitude. Wishing you honourablle PM Shri Narendra Modi ji a very happy birthday.”

Malayalam superstar Mammootty wrote: “Birthday Wishes to Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra ModiJi.”

The other superstar of Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal, also took to Twitter to wish the Prime Minister. ” Warmest birthday wishes and much love to our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. May you have a blessed year filled with good health, happiness, and more success.”

Official: Malayalam Superstar joins Agent

Akhil Akkineni is gearing up for the biggest bet in his career with Agent. The actor took months to transform himself and he plays a spy in this stylish action entertainer. Surendar Reddy is the director and AK Entertainments are the producers. Malayalam Superstar Mammootty will be seen in an important role and he completed shooting for a schedule of Agent in Budapest. The makers today made an official announcement about the same.

Mammootty plays Akhil’s mentor in the film. There are speculations that Sonu Sood will play the lead antagonist in Agent. The shoot of the film resumed recently after a long break. Sakshi Vaidhya is the leading lady and Hiphop Thamiza is the music director. Agent will have its theatrical release next year and the film is made on a budget of Rs 60 crores.

A string of southern film personalities such as Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal and Prithiviraj Sukumaran, among many others, have wished Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who turned 70 on Tuesday.

To mark Mammootty’s milestone birthday, Kamal Haasan shared a special video message speaking in Malayalam to greet the superstar on his birthday.

Superstar Mohanlal too shared a video message to wish Mammootty, whom he considers as his ‘big brother.’ He captioned the clip: “Happy Birthday dear Ichakka @mammootty.”

Calling Mammootty his inspiration, Nivin Pauly tweeted: “The Legend of Indian Cinema and my Inspiration! #HappyBirthday Dear Mammukka.”

Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a throwback picture with Mammootty to wish him on his birthday.

“I don’t have a better photo…coz we always forget to take one on those biriyaani and black tea afternoons. And more than anything else, thank you for Chaalu and Surmi chechi! Happy birthday Ikka!”

Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty tagged Mammootty as one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema.

He wrote: “Easily one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema @mammukka Happy Birthday. I’m happy and proud that I live and work in the same industry as you and at the same time as you. May almighty shower you with His choicest blessings.”

Actor Sarath Kumar simply wrote: “Wishing my dear friend, versatile icon of Indian cinema @mammukka a very happy 70th birthday. Inspiration to millions for 5 decades and many more years ahead. May you be blessed with good health & happiness always.”

Actress Manju Warrier wished Mammootty with a special painting. Her caption for the image read, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMMOOKKA!!!”

Why Mammootty took long gap in Tollywood?

Hyderabad: About 25 years ago, the Malayalam superstar Mammootty played a leading role in K Vishwanath-directed Swati Kiranam. This was the only straight movie he did in Telugu film industry. However, he became popular with Maniratnam’s Dalapathi, a Tamil dubbed movie. Despite several offers, the complete actor didn’t take up any movie as they’re not justifying his talent and image, said a source close to Mammootty.

“The reason for long gap in Telugu film industry was lack of a suitable story for me. After Swati Kiranam, no one approached me with a heart-touching story and character for me,” said Mammootty, while adding that recently he watched two Telugu movies — Rangasthalam and Bharat Ane Nenu.

Mammootty was offered the role that played by Saikumar in Prasthanam, but the Malayalam superstar didn’t want to act in a negative role. He was away from the Telugu film industry for a long because non-availability of proper characters for him.

Mammootty’s second straight Telugu movie ‘Yatra’ is slated for release soon. Mammootty is reportedly okayed two more Telugu movies and gave call sheets for 2019, he said.

Mammootty did 399 movies in a span of 35 years. Telugu audience know him with movies Swati Kiranam and Dalapathi. Yatra movie is a biopic on late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, former chief minister of united AP. The movie focuses on the Dr YSR’s sensational padayatra that eventually took him to chief minister’s post. “It’s really heart-touching subject as it narrates how YSR interacted with people during his padayatra and how he tried to resolve problems of society,” added Mammootty.

Yatra : Why going back and forth on Jagan’s role

Yatra is touted to be a glorifying biopic on former Telugu Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, the film has stalwart actor Mammootty stepping into the shoes of YSR.

Ever since the biopic has been officially announced, there has been a lot of buzz regarding YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s role. Initially, the makers have locked Tamil star hero Suriya for Jagan’s role. Now, it is speculated that Suriya’s brother Karthi is in talks for the role.

The reason for this indecision is Mammootty as he is reluctant to cast a top star for Jagan’s role. Sources say that he is not in favour to cast a well known face in that character.

The makers are planning to wrap up Mammootty’s scenes first so that they will have more flexibility in choosing Jagan’s character.

If both Suriya and Karthi are out of the race, it is going to be Vishal Reddy who will reprise Jagan’s role. We have to wait for some more time to end the suspense on this role.

Superstar inches 400th film Mark

Malayalam Superstar Mammootty is one prominent actor who has been busy with films from the past three and half decades. He completed 35 years of journey in Indian cinema recently and he acted in 399 films. On the eve of his birthday on September 7th, his 400th will be announced officially. The movie will be made in all the South Indian languages and Mammootty’s son Dulquer Salman will play a crucial role.

Amal Neerad, famous Malayalam director will helm the movie and the audience will have a surprise revealed on the day. Mammootty’s 400th film will be a sequel for one of his past super hit films. No clarity over inclusion of Mammootty in ‘Kaala’

The makers of superstar Rajinikanth’s Tamil film “Kaala” haven’t reacted to rumours about Malayalam megastar Mammootty being part of the project, which is being directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Dhanush.

Social media is buzzing with reports that Mammootty has been signed on to play B.R. Ambedkar-like role in the film.

Reacting to the reports, a source from the film’s unit told IANS: “I’m not at liberty to speak. It’s best if the makers react to such things.”

In the film, Rajinikanth plays a slum-lord-turned-gangster.

Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Samuthirakani and Pankaj Tripathi play key roles.

The project marks the reunion of Ranjith and Rajinikanth, who had previously worked together in “Kabali”.

Meanwhile, several shooting stills have been leaking from the sets of the film on a daily basis. The makers are finding it extremely difficult to control the leak.

“We are currently shooting in Mumbai, and most of it is happening outdoors. With Rajini sir on sets, it’s extremely difficult to stop people from taking pictures. Thanks to technology, great pictures are taken even while standing hundreds of metres away,” the source said.

The film has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
