Independence day – Rana Daggubati the winner

Three notable films competed at box office this Independence Day weekend. It has been one week, and we have a clear winner, Rana’s Nene Raju Nene Mantri.

Released on August 11, Nene Raju Nene Mantri collected a worldwide distributor share of approx. 18 Cr in the first week, the highest among the three films. The film has also emerged as the highest solo grosser of Rana just within a week. Significant drop in collections post the 5-day extended weekend was observed, but the film was already ashore by then.

NRNM collected $538K at US box office – 1.80 Cr distributor share, a Hit in overseas.

Considering that the film was made on a budget of 12 Cr, and it recovered the complete investment through satellite rights itself, all the money coming from box office is pure profit.

Mass director Boyapati Sreenu’s ‘Jaya Janaki Nayaka’ had a decent 1st week, collecting a worldwide share of 15.9 Cr. The film was trailing behind Nene Raju Nene Mantri till end of holiday weekend but started dominating it (albeit by insignificant margin) from the 6th day. In all possibility, the film is likely to end up around 20 Cr share, incurring 10 Cr loss to buyers, since theatrical rights were sold for around 30 Cr. The film was already released in deficit so the producer’s loss is huge.

JJN collected $102K in the US, which converts to 30 lakhs share. The film was acquired in 1 Cr ratio so heavy loss to all the involved parties.

Nithin’s LIE had a disastrous 1st week. By raking in a worldwide distributor share of 8.74 Cr in the 1st week, the film has been termed as an outright disaster. The film has started running with deficits in many centres post the 5-day weekend. Theatrical rights of the film are valued for more than 22 Cr, and the film won’t recover even 50 percent of the investment.

LIE collected $229K (distributor share is 70 lakhs) from US. Since it was sold in 3 Cr ratio, the buyer lost huge money.

Nene Raju Nene Mantri worldwide Collections

Nene Raju Nene Mantri had a good 1st week with a worldwide distributor share of 17.98 Cr. It has emerged as the highest collecting film for the hero in just one week. The film has seen drop in collections after 5 day holiday weekend but it doesn’t affect the overall week as it has done well till then. Biggest achievement of the film is that it is going to recover it’s entire budget from Telugu states itself.

NRNM holds well, LIE and JJN manage lukewarm collections

Among the three releases last Friday, Rana’s Nene Raju Nene Manthri is holding well in the first weekend at the overseas box office. Both LIE and Jaya Janaki Nayaka are registering lukewarm collections.

Nene Raju Nene Manthri, which had a good start with $ 141K on its premiers day and $ 121K on Friday, has remained steady and collected $ 125K on its first Saturday. The total gross now stands close to $ 400K. Rana’s intense performance and Kajal’s endearing act proved to be the selling points for the film. Teja is the director for the film.

Nithiin’s LIE started off on a decent note with a $ 107K on Friday including premiers. The response at the box office is lukewarm as the film managed only $ 55K on its first Saturday. The film is likely to be a loss venture in overseas.

Boyapati Srinu’s Jaya Janaki Nayaka has been rejected by overseas audience as the film is heading towards becoming a disaster. After taking a poor start on premiers day, there is hardly any notable improvement in the collections as the film is yet to be surpass the $ 100K mark. Till now, it has collected $ 60K ( approx). Trade pundits opine that the film will not recover the expenses for the distributors.

Rana’s NRNM continues to dominate in overseas

Rana’s Nene Raju Nene Manthri is having a better run at the overseas box office compared to the other two Friday releases, LIE and Jaya Janaki Nayaka. The political thriller took a strong start with a $ 141K on its premiers and followed it up with a decent $ 121K on its Friday, taking the overall total to $ 252K. Despite the mixed talk, the film is doing pretty well in all areas.

Nithiin’s LIE, which opened its box office account with a $ 55K from its premiers, has managed to collect $ 52K on Friday. This is a slow start and the fate of the distributors will depend on Saturday and Sunday collections. The below par reviews and an average word of mouth are effecting the collections.

Boyapati Srinu’s Jaya Janaki Nayaka, which is performing decently at the domestic box office, is having a poor run in overseas. The film registered paltry figures on its premiers and there is a slight improvement on Friday. The action drama collected $ 19K till now.

Varun Tej’s Fidaa is just $6K short of the magical $ 2M club in overseas.

Nene Raju Nene Mantri Review – Rana and Teja take a dig on Contemporary politics

    Nene Raju Nene Mantri Review

    Telugu360 Rating : 2.75/5

    Story:

Jogendra (Rana Daggubati) is a money lender from Uravakonda in Anantapur district. He loves his wife Radha (Kajal) more than anything else in this world. As a mark of respect for his love, he’s called as ‘ Radha Jogendra’. One day Radha is insulted by the Sarpanch’s wife and meets with a personal tragedy. To teach a lesson to the headstrong village head, Jogendra resolves to become Sarpanch. Within no time, he not only becomes Sarapanch but also MLA. With his brilliance at executing stunning plans that upset the opponents at drop of the hat, Jogendra aspires to reach greater heights, with an ultimate aim to become Chief minister. In his journey to adorn the CM position, his life goes through turmoil. Will he achieve the CM post? How he overcomes the obstacles in his path…Has to be witnessed on the screen

    Analysis:

Nene Raju Nene Mantri first half in itself is a shocker. Director Teja surprises us with his gripping narration and differently envisioned scenes. Teja seems to have reinvented himself. Adding fuel to the fire Rana delivered his career’s best role. Jogendra’s multi-faceted characterization with love, street smartness, cruelty and political cunningness have been portrayed well.

After delivering a great first half, Teja’s script fizzles in the second half with most of the scenes being over the top. Kajal’s death episode is lengthy and tests viewer’s patience. Around 20minutes of the film could be trimmed easily. The climax is superficial. However, there are ample comedy dialogues by Posani and Prabhas Sreenu even in second half.

Dialogues are witty and at times thought provoking. ‘Yendukante Atani pere Jogendra’; dialogue will become popular. Jogendra’s dialogues throughout are excellent and Rana’s diction enhanced them.

In the climax, satires on politicians switching parties are good. Also, there are hard hitting dialogues on Andhra Pradesh YuvaNeta who does sympathy politics.

    Performances:

Rana as Jogendra is flawless. He emoted very well. Kajal is perfect as Radha. Catherine Tresa as TV reporter added glamour quotient and is super-hot. She played good length role. The casting was just perfect with Navadeep, Posani, Asutosh Rana performing well.

    Positives:

    • Rana’s outstanding performance! By far this is best by any hero in the recent years. His attitude, impeccable performance in emotional scenes are astonishingly great
    • Racy First half and Jogendra’s smart tactics
    • Navadeep and Rana thread
    • Excellent background score and cinematography
    • Adequate comedy wherever required
    • Production values are very good

    Negatives:

    • Radha – Jogendra thread is over done in the second half and is extremely annoying Poor climax
    • Substance less and over the top second-half
    • Poor Climax

    Verdict :

Nene Raju Nene Mantri is watchable for its good first half and bold political tone. This film elevates Rana as a great performer. Director Teja with his overdose of sentiment in second half, spoiled a potential blockbuster script. Openings are good in USA and India due to the post Baahubali Rana craze. However, the movies sustenance in long run depends on female audience.

Market not mature for web series: Rana Daggubati

    0

Actor Rana Daggubati, who has made his presence felt in the television space with his show “No. 1 Yaari”, says he also has plans to venture into the web series space but feels the market is not mature enough.

Having succeeded as a television show host of the popular show “No. 1 Yaari”, Rana says he still has a lot more to figure out.

“Television is a great medium, but it’s still very young for an actor like me to figure out. This space has been explored by seniors such as Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi but youngsters like Tarak (Jr NTR) and me are still figuring it out,” Rana told IANS.

Jr NTR is currently hosting the Telugu version of reality TV show “Bigg Boss”.

Asked if his presence on television can extend to web series space, Rana said: “We are writing and developing a bunch of things. The market is not very mature and we don’t know its size yet. You could do something in a lakh or even on a budget of a crore. It will take time.”

On the career front, Rana awaits the release of Telugu political drama “Nene Raju, Nene Mantri”, due for release on Friday in cinemas.

In the film, he will be seen as a simple moneylender-turned- politician consumed by his own desire for power.

Teja not in a mood to sign his Next

    0

Teja was a sensation in Tollywood after he scored a series of blockbusters with Chitram, Nuvvu Nenu and Jayam. But he stepped out with repeated films after which all his movies have been rejected badly by the audience. After a decent gap, Teja is back with a political thriller featuring Rana Daggubati in the lead role. The movie has been titled Nene Raju Nene Mantri and is gearing up for Independence day weekend release. The film’s teaser and the songs received wide response and all those who watched the film already praised Teja for his directorial abilities.

Teja has been knocked with many offers right after the theatrical trailer of Nene Raju Nene Mantri has been out. However the ace director is not in a mood to sign any film as of now and he will take a call only after the release of Nene Raju Nene Mantri. He even sounded very confident during the recent interviews and he preferred to speak only after the film’s release. Teja will be sharing the profits and he has not been paid any remuneration for Nene Raju Nene Mantri.

Kajal and Catherine are the female leads in the film which will release on August 11th. Suresh Babu, Kiran and Bharat Chowdary bankrolled Nene Raju Nene Mantri.

Rana Fumed at National Media House over ‘Drugs – Parcel’ News

    0

Tollywood hunk Rana Daggubati, who is busy promoting his upcoming film ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’, fumed at a noted National media house on Friday after it published an article allegedly connecting his name to the ‘drugs scandal’ that recently erupted in Telugu film industry.

Reports emerged the other day that Excise officials had checked a ‘courier’ that came to Ramanaidu studios from overseas. It allegedly belonged to Rana.

The media house which faced Rana’s fury, had published an article claiming that the Excise officials checked Rana’s parcel and related this story to the ‘Tollywood drug scandal’. This might have irked Rana a lot since his career has just started flying post ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Ghazi’, and he doesn’t want any kind of detrimental propaganda against him.

Rana immediately took to Twitter and replied to the said media house’ tweet, ‘I have a film for release (had 2 earlier this yr) a top rated TV show and am part of the Kabbadi and boxing seasons!!,’.

He sort of conveyed that when there was so much (good things) happening in his life, the media house instead chose to spread negativity about him.

Rana’s tweet attracted huge attention from Twitterati who took his side and abused the media house for writing stories ‘without checking the facts’.

Wish grandfather could see ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’: Rana

Actor Rana Daggubati, who is proud of forthcoming Telugu political drama “Nene Raju Nene Mantri”, wishes his grandfather and legendary producer D. Ramanaidu was still around to see the film.

At the pre-release event of “Nene Raju Nene Mantri” on Wednesday, Rana expressed regret over not working with his grandfather even in a single film.

“I’m very proud of ‘Nene Raju Nene Mantri’. The only regret is that my grandfather couldn’t see the film. Wish he was still around. I regret not having worked with him even in one film.

“Since his passing, a lot of positive things happened and I know he is blessing me from above,” an emotional Rana said here.

Directed by Teja, the film marks Rana’s first time collaboration with his father D. Suresh Babu, a popular producer who currently heads the home banner Suresh Productions.

“I have worked with my dad for this first time in this film. We always talk about films at home but to finally join hands for this project was special. It was one of the finest experiences of my life,” he said.

Rana plays a politician in the film, due for release on August 11. It also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Navdeep, Catherine Tresa and Ashutosh Rana.

“Director Teja is a huge fan of MGR, and he grew up in Chennai idolizing him. What really inspired him was the greatness of MGR, and his rise from a film star to a leader,” he said, clarifying that the film is not based on the life of MGR,” Rana had earlier told IANS.

Many things about the film are a tribute to actor and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G Ramachandran (MGR).

“”The film will feel like real events but it will all be fictional. When we did ‘Ghazi’, we were aware that it was a true event but nobody really knew what had actually happened because everything was classified. But we ensured everything that happened in the film should feel real,” Rana said.

The MGR connection extends to the film’s Tamil title “Naan Aanaiyitaal”, a line borrowed from the yesteryear actor’s hit film “Enga Veetu Pillai”.

Like finding something exciting in everything I do: Rana Daggubati

After playing a king in the “Baahubali” franchise and a naval officer in “Ghazi”, actor Rana Daggubati says he keeps the excitement meter ticking by finding something new and different to do in his films.

The excitement will continue for Rana as he awaits the release of his forthcoming Telugu drama “Nene Raju Nene Mantri”, in which he plays a politician.

“I have always urged to do something different. I played a politician in my first film ‘Leader’, and it wasn’t a regular debut. I like to find something exciting in everything I do. In a film like ‘Baahubali’, each day was exciting. In ‘Ghazi’, a submarine war film, the excitement was in making something ambitious on a tight budget,” Rana told IANS here.

What was exciting about Teja-directed “Nene Raju Nenu Mantri”, slated for release on August 11, in Tamil as well as Malayalam?

“Teja approached me with the idea at the end of ‘Ghazi’ and at the beginning of ‘Baahubali 2’. We spent eight months developing the character (Jogendra) and wrote different versions of the story. This is a commercial story of a politician, but told in a way an art film is narrated,” he said.

Explaining the story in a nutshell, Rana said this is the story of a moneylender who is pushed to the brink by those in power.

“I’m a huge fan of ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, and I consider it today’s classic. As a tale, it could be very dark but the flamboyance with which (Leonardo) DiCaprio’s character takes you through the madness in his life is amazing. We tried to do that in a rural set up but against the backdrop of Indian politics,” he said.

At the heart of “Nene Raju Nene Mantri”, is a very heartwarming love story of a husband and wife, says Rana.

Asked how different Jogendra is from Arjun Prasad, the politician character from “Leader”, he said: “Arjun was an honest guy and he wanted to clean the system. Here, Jogendra is angry with a bunch of people and he wants to show them what power can really do to a simple man like him. The story is about the rise, fall and redemption of Jogendra.”

Many things about the film are a tribute to actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.G Ramachandran (MGR).

“Director Teja is a huge fan of MGR, and he grew up in Chennai idolizing him. What really inspired him was the greatness of MGR, and his rise from a film star to a leader,” he said, clarifying the film is not based on the life of MGR.

“The film will feel like real events but it will all be fictional.

According to Rana, the film has not been dubbed in Tamil.

Kids doing drugs worries me: Rana Daggubati

In wake of a major drug bust earlier this month in Hyderabad, actor Rana Daggubati said it worries him and its really dangerous to know that school children have been involved in this racket.

The Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department had seized 700 dots of LSD worth Rs 20 lakh and 35gm of MDMA — commonly known as Ecstasy — worth Rs 1.4 lakh from three peddlers.

The month-long investigation brought to light the drug trade in Hyderabad, which involves not only Tollywood stars and MNC professionals, but also school students from reputed institutions.

Commenting on the drug bust scenario, Rana told IANS: “Honestly, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. If a filmmaker or an actor takes drugs, it really doesn’t bother me. They are adults and it’s their lives and they can do whatever they want. I don’t give a damn if you take drugs.”

What worries Rana is that children are taking drugs.

“The dangerous story about school kids doing drugs worries me. That’s something that needs to be taken more seriously and addressed immediately. When youngsters who don’t have a mind of their own are doing drugs, it scares me,” he said.

“Who is supplying drugs to these kids? Are these people immigrants? How are they bringing drugs into the country,” Rana asked.

On the career front, Rana awaits the release of Telugu-Tamil political drama “Nene Raju, Nene Mantri”.
