Paisa Vasool ends up as a disaster with a worldwide share of less than 19 Cr. The film didn’t even surpass NBK’s last sankranthi release Dictator which collected an approx 21 Cr.It has added a mere 1.1 Cr after the first week. Every distributor in Telugu States except Guntur & Ceeded have lost over 50 percent which is miserable. The film was just able to recover the expenses in USA.

Paisa Vasool had a poor 1st worldwide with a distributor share of 17.56 Cr. This is 3rd highest first week for Balayya after Gautamiputra Satakarni (34.65 Cr) & Legend (27.30 Cr). It has just edged past Dictator which had collected 17.28 cr. The film won’t even be collected 20 cr which means it will be ending up as a Disaster.

Paisa Vasool has collected an approx 84 lakhs yesterday in Telugu States which is huge drop when compared to Sunday which was at 2.14 cr. The drop is over 60%. 4 days total share of the film now stands at 13.8 Cr. Theatrical rights including expenses of the film are valued at 30cr in Telugu States and it is looking like it will find tough to recover at-least 60% of the investments.

The film is a disaster overseas as it was able to recover only the expenses.

In overseas, Telugu film Arjun Reddy has extended its dream run in its second weekend. Balakrishna’s Paisa Vasool, which released last Friday, has utterly disappointed the trade circles as it collected very meagre figures in its first weekend. Tamil biggie Vivegam, despite slowing down, managed to surpass the half a million dollar mark in overseas.

Arjun Reddy : After embarking on a sensational start with close to $ 1M haul in its first weekend, Tollywood’s latest runaway hit Arjun Reddy is extending its dream run in overseas even after 10 days. The bold yet intense romantic drama minted decent figures in the second weekend and by Monday the film has touched the $ 1.5M club, only the 15th film of all time and the 5th film this year to touch the prestigious mark. On its second Friday and following weekend, the film collected $ 89K, $ 116K and $ 90K.

Paisa Vasool : Balakrishna’s highly anticipated action drama Paisa Vasool has had a disappointing run at overseas box office so far. The film registered dismal figures in its first weekend and trade analysts predict that it will be a huge loss venture in overseas. The Puri Jagannadh directional collected $ 100K from its Thursday premiers and the collections took a beating towards the weekend due to the average reviews and poor word of mouth. The film has collected $46K , $27K and $18K in its first weekend. The film might add only another $25K in its full run.

Vivegam : Tamil superstar Thala Ajith’s Vivegam, which opened on a promising note but slowed down later due to poor talk, has managed to rake in noticeable figures in the last weekend to take the total past half a million dollar mark. The film has collected $ 520K till now and stood at the second spot in the list of top grossing Tamil films in USA this year.

Weekend trade report – Arjun Reddy steady , Paisa Vasool falters

After an above average opening and failing to hold enough on it’s second day , Paisa Vasool has dropped again on it’s third day. 3 days share estimates for the film stands at 13.2 Cr. This sort of trend was expected for the film since the night shows on release day were not at all up to the mark. It has taken a little advantage of holiday on it’s Day two which resulted an average hold. Yesterday being a Sunday the film could have collected atleast on the same level of Saturday but that didn’t happen and instead it came down. In ceeded area it dropped over 20 percent yesterday in comparison from second day. The fate of the film is sealed unless some miracle happens from today.

Last week Arjun Reddy continued with steady Collections on 2nd Friday and has seen almost double jump on Saturday as it was a holiday. It is estimated to collect over 2 cr over it’s second weekend which takes total to above 13.3 Cr.

‘Package Deal’ – this is the term exploited the most by once-top directors. When these directors hit rough patch, they can’t command the remuneration they used to get in their hey days. In such scenarios, instead of slashing their remuneration, they opt for ‘package deals’, which is proving to be an insidious trend.

Take the case of Puri Jagannath-Balayya’s ‘Paisa Vasool’. The director was allotted Rs 35 budget (including remunerations and excluding publicity) to wrap up the film. Puri wasn’t given a fixed remuneration, and his total pay would be as much as he could save from those 35 Cr.

The makers boasted of wrapping up the film in 78 working days. Finishing a top hero’s film in such short time is a feat that no one but only Puri can accomplish. Movie lovers may think it is because of Puri’s jet speed of film making but those who understand the intricacies of film making, know very well that the accomplishment is a result of director having his eye on money only.

Puri is an expert in utilizing package deals. In Paisa Vasool, except Shriya and Ali, there were no other big names. Even the crew wasn’t much demanding. Three songs were canned in the sets only. The unit filmed only chasing sequences and fights in Portugal, which was done over a period of 40 days. And, the entire remaining film was shot over less than 40 days in sets in Hyderabad. No wonder audiences were shocked at the film’s quality.

Buzz in film cirlces is that Puri took away home no less than Rs 10 crore with Paisa Vasool. In such case, ‘Paisa Vasool’ title is more apt to the director than the film. The producer isn’t complaining as he recovered his investment in the form of film’s decent pre-release business. We need to wait for a few more days to see whether distributors can Vasool their Paisa.

Before getting the nod of Balayya for Paisa Vasool, director Puri Jagannath faced two big rejections, from Megastar Chiranjeevi and NTR Jr. After watching Paisa Vasool, movie lovers say that the senior Mega hero and junior Nandamuri hero were perfectly correct in turning down the mediocre script narrated by Puri. It is heard that Paisa Vasool is the same script that the ‘Pokiri’ maker had narrated to Chiru and NTR.

It may be recalled that before locking Katthi remake, Puri’s ‘Auto Jaani’ was announced as Megastar Chiranjeevi’s comeback film. The project however was called off, and Chiru himself revealed in an interview that he wasn’t satisfied with the second half narrated by Puri.

After the success of ‘Temper’, NTR gave his word to Puri to work with him in another film. Honoring his word, NTR held rounds of discussions with Puri after Janatha Garage. The director however couldn’t convince the actor with his scripts, the subject of ‘Paisa Vasool’ was one of them.

Balayya on the other hand gave his nod to Puri even without listening to the story. He was so impressed by the hero’s characterization that he didn’t bother about the story, which is a rehash of Puri’s earlier movies, mainly ‘Pokiri’.

Now, as ‘Paisa Vasool’ is in theatres, people can understand why the story was rejected by Chiru and NTR.

Paisa Vasool collects $ 100 K from premiers in US

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Paisa Vasool opened in cinemas this Friday amidst high expectations. The film managed to garner mixed reports from all sections of audience and was able to registered only lukewarm collections in Telugu states and in overseas.

According to the latest trade reports, the Puri Jagganadh’s directional has collected $ 100K from its overseas premiers. The poor word of mouth and mediocre reviews have dented the collections to some extent in overseas. On Friday, the film has collected close to $ 40K ( approx). This is a disappointing start for the film.

Both Puri and Balakrishna have a poor box office record in overseas. Balakrishna’s GPSK was only film in his career to perform well in overseas. Puri’s all recent movies ended as loss ventures. This has largely impacted the openings of Paisa Vasool. The film’s US rights were bought for 1.5 Crores and the trade analysts predict that it might end as a loss venture.

This is second highest opening for the hero after Gautamiputra Satakarni which is at 9.76 Cr. The film started off good in the morning shows but the occupancy continued to come down show by show. Generally night shows on the release day of a film especially for a commercial one should be strong but this didn’t show that sort of occupancies.

This week’s solo release Paisa Vasool starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead has opened to mixed reports all over. The commercial entertainer took a very disappointing start at both domestic and overseas box office. The poor track record of both Puri Jagganadh and Balakrishna in overseas turned out to be a liability for the film’s openings.

As per the latest trade reports, Paisa Vasool took a very disappointing start in overseas. The film’s premieres registered a meagre figures in all areas. What is more embarrassing is that the film has managed only 40 percent of collections when compared to last week’s release Arjun Reddy, which is going great guns in its second weekend.

Puri’s outdated plot and weak narration made this film a mediocre watch despite Balakrishna’s praise worthy performance.

It has become a regular practice for our producers to promote their films through popular actors and directors. Quite often we see our Tollywood celebrities promoting other films. Most of actors and directors are indeed encouraging this trend just because of their obligation or the close rapport they maintain with the team that worked for a particular film.

SS Rajamouli is one personality who is relied on by producers and stars by to promote their films. He stays very active in Twitter has more than 3 million followers. Quite often , due to obligation , he tweets about films and promotes them through his handle. Earlier, his verdict on films used to be like a certificate. But, off late, he is loosing credibility for his over hyping tweets on mediocre films. Recently, he tweeted positively about Jagapathi Babu’s Patel Sir film. He said the film is yet another feather in the cap for Vaarahi banner. But, film ended as a disaster at the box office.

Yesterday, he tweeted about Balakrishna’s Paisa Vasool. He said Puri presented Balayya in a never before avatar. However, the film has been receiving poor talk since the first day first shows.

Many are opining that Rajamouli, who is popular icon all over the nation, is sacrificing his credibility with his over hyping promotions for undeserving films which he is doing due to his close bond with producers and stars involved in those films.

Paisa Vasool Review : Balayya wins in new role, Puri loses with old script !

Very few combinations in Tollywood could have matched the hysteria that erupted when Puri Jagannadh announced a film with Nandamuri Balakrishna. The duo have teamed up for the first time in their careers and audience are eagerly awaiting the result of this crazy combination.

Let’s see if the dashing combination of Puri – Balayya strike it hard at the box office or not.

Story:
Teda Singh (Balakrishna) who wanders in the Hyderabad night clubs meets an IPS officer (Kyra Dutt) upon whose request, he takes up an assignment to assassinate Mafia don Bob Marley (Vikramjeet Singh) unofficially. Initially Teda Singh meets his neighbor Harika (Musskan Sethi) teases her but later the duo become friends. Harika, tipped by an anonymous person, suspects that Teda Singh was her sister’s killer.

Second half opens in Portugal, portraying Balakrishna in the role of cab driver. He takes on mafia don Bob Marley as Sarika (Shriya) tries to record evidences against Bob Marley. A shocking news about Teda Singh is revealed, when Bob Marley finds about conspiracy against him. Rest of the story revolves around the flashback of Teda Singh and how he takes on mighty mafia gang.

Analysis:
‘Teda Singh’ is an uncanny name for Balakrishna who is well-known for larger than life mass portrayals. Balakrishna accepting a different kind of treatment for his role, particularly the one who cracks a joke on himself, is very much appreciated. The first half of the film runs just for 65 minutes and is fast paced. The dialogues and Balayya’s new modulation will appeal to fans, as the storyline remains wafer-thin. Making it shoddier, the production values are cheap in first half. Especially the art work is disappointing. Director Puri Jagan despite being aware that there are many flicks with similar story line, picking this beaten to death story is surprising. Despite the shortcomings, Balakrishna as Teda Singh is successful in entertaining the fans in the first half. The movie in the second half has a serious tone slightly. The move is pretty fast paced, from the revealing the identity of Teda Singh till the Climax. Puri Jagan who did some homework around BalaKrishna’s characterization, failed to do justice to all other areas in the movie.

‘Paisa Vasool’ portrays Balayya in a role different than his screen image. Consequently, Balayya’s strengths are underutilized. Teda Singh’s comedy characterization partly works. In general, three songs and Portugal episodes are good! Puri Jagan should seriously consider coming out of his template of mafia don script. Overall, this film will be enjoyed by fans and mass audience only.

‘ Paisa Vasool ‘ portrays Balayya in a different role than his screen image. In that process Balayya’s strengths are under utilized , Teda Singh’s characterization works only in Few Scenes.

While first half is Mediocre, second half is slightly better. 3 songs , Portugal episodes are good !

Puri jagan should seriously consider coming out of his template mafia don stories.

Venkatesh anxiously waiting for Paisa Vasool

At a time when his contemporaries are competing with younger generation heroes, senior hero Venkatesh has surprisingly slowed down. For the past four years, he has been taking lengthy sabbaticals after each release. Its been five months since the release of his last film, ‘Guru’ and Venky hasn’t yet taken a call on his next film.

As per our reliable sources, Venky wants to work with director Puri Jagannath, who is credited the most for giving makeovers to the actors he works with. Venky too is keen on an image makeover and hence he has been looking forward to working with Puri.

In fact, before announcing ‘Paisa Vasool’ with Balayya, Puri held rounds of story discussions with Venky. The project however didn’t materialize. Some reports said that it was because of the budget constraints and others blamed the half-baked scripts that Puri allegedly narrates. The crazy director’s track record in the last two years was another reason why the project was nipped in the bud itself.

Venky however has still set his eyes on Puri only. He is currently waiting for the result of Paisa Vasool. If Puri can score a hit with the Balayya starrer, then his chances of directing Venky will better as the actor is already keen to work with him.

The biggest hurdle for the materialization of this project is Suresh Babu, who believes in story more than anything else. He doesn’t give his green signal to any project unless he was satisfied with the bound script, however big the director is. Notwithstanding the result of ‘Paisa Vasool’, Puri will have to convince Suresh Babu, and it won’t be as easy as convincing Balayya.

Nandamuri Balakrishna is known for his dialogue diction and in this generation Rana Daggubati has been getting wide reception for his bass voice and dialogue delivery. Balakrishna is all set to promote his film Paisa Vasool on Rana’s tv show No1 Yaari with Rana. The shoot of the tv show has been wrapped up today. Balayya and Rana will be spotted chanting NTR’s famous dialogue ‘Emantivi Emantivi’ which is said to be the major highlight of the show.

An inside source revealed that this will be the best episode of ‘No1 Yaari with Rana’ till date. Balayya has been extremely energetic throughout the show and Rana nailed it in style. However we have to wait and seen who will promote Paisa Vasool in Bigg Boss tv show which is topping the TRPs. There are talks that Puri Jagannadh will promote the show as he shares a close bond with NTR. There are even talks that Superstar Mahesh will soon promote Spyder on NTR’s show Bigg Boss.

We need to wait for a few more days to find out if Balakrishna Nandamuri and Puri Jagannath’s ‘Paisal Vasool’ will justify its title and make the Producer and all buyers happy. Meanwhile, we have information that the action entertainer is a true ‘Paisa Vasool’ film for both the senior Nandamuri hero and the crazy director.

The total budget of Paisa Vasool is 35 Cr. Of it, Puri took 10 Cr as his fee for providing story, screenplay and direction. The fact that Puri wraps up films at jet speed, incurring very reasonable production cost, might also have convinced producers to shell out this huge amount. Actress Charmee, who is a partner in Puri Connects, was paid Rs 1 Cr for her services. Both Kyra Dutt and Muskan Sethi were supplied by Puri Connects.

Balayya usually charges 5 Cr for a film. However, he was paid Rs 10 Cr remuneration for Paisa Vasool. This is the highest remuneration he has ever taken for a film. Since the film’s producers, Bhavya Creations, have interests in different businesses, and as they seek the support of Andhra Pradesh govt. they didn’t mind paying the double the remuneration to Balayya, who is an MLA and a close aide and relative of CM Chandrababu Naidu. Another reason could be Balayya’s commitment. It was heard earlier that despite Puri wanted to produce Paisa Vasool, Balayya gave the film to Bhavya Creations honoring his word given to the producer a couple of years ago.

On the whole, both Balayya and Puri themselves pocketed 55-60 percent of the film’s total budget.
