Porn case: Raj Kundra gets interim relief from arrest till Aug 25

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest to businessman Raj Kundra till August 25 in a porn film racket case registered in 2020 by the Mumbai Police here.

When the matter came up for hearing, his lawyer Prashant Patil argued that the other co-accused in the case are already out on bail and the offences against Kundra attract a punishment of less than seven years, and hence deserved protection from arrest.

Opposing the plea, Additional Public Prosecutor Prajakta Shinde said that the role of accused (Kundra) was different from the other co-accused and sought more time for instructions on the merits of the case.

While granting time, Justice S.K. Shinde allowed an interim order preventing Kundra’s arrest till August 25, when the next hearing is scheduled.

Earlier, Kundra had sought anticipatory bail in the FIR lodged by the Mumbai Police Cyber Crime Cell in connection with the alleged porn racket case, claiming he was falsely implicated.

He further contended that there is no evidence to link him against the HotShot App and was being made a ‘scapegoat’.

However, late on July 19, Kundra was nabbed in a similar complaint registered by the Crime Branch in 2021 for which he was sent to custody.

Last week, after a lower court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, he moved the Bombay HC which has granted him interim relief against arrest for a week.

She requested everyone not to spread the fake news and she wanted them to wait for the law to decide. She wanted the people to respect her privacy for the sake of her children. Shilpa Shetty penned an emotional post and it is made available for public through her social media page. Here is her complete statement:

Yes! The past few days have been challenging, on every front. There have been a lot of rumors and accusations. A lot of unwarranted aspersions on me cast by the media and (not so) well-wishers as well. A lot of trolling/questions were posted, not only to me but also to my family. MY STAND… I HAVE NOT COMMENTED YET and will continue to refrain from doing so on this case as it is subjudice, so please stop attributing false quotes on my behalf. Reiterating my philosophy of, as a celebrity “Never complain, never explain”.

All I will say is, as it’s an ongoing investigation, I have full faith in the Mumbai Police & the Indian judiciary. As a family, we are taking recourse to all our available legal remedies. But, till then I humbly request you – especially as a MOTHER – to respect our privacy for my children’s sake and request you to refrain from commenting on half-baked information without verifying the veracity of the same. I am a proud law-abiding Indian citizen and a hardworking professional for the last 29 years. People have put their faith in ME & I’ve never let anyone down.

So, most importantly, I request you to respect my family’s and ‘my right’ to privacy in these times. We don’t deserve a media trial. Please let the law take its course. Satyamev Jayate!

With Positivity and Gratitude,
Shilpa Shetty Kundra

I’m not involved with HotShots claims Shilpa Shetty

In a latest development in the controversial porn case involving Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra, the Bollywood actress has denied her involvement with the company or its nature of content and has pointed fingers at Kundra’s brother-in-law.

After a court hearing on Friday, the Crime Branch team raided the Juhu residence of Shilpa and Raj. The investigative team is looking for money trail and corresponding emails, which will incriminate the accused and his alleged involvement in pornographic content.

Sources claim that Shilpa Shetty named Raj Kundra’s brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi for running the functioning of the app and its operations.

After the case came to fore, Shilpa Shetty Kundra resigned from her husband’s Viaan Industries, and stepped away from her active entertainment projects involvement, which included a television reality show and her current film.

Years after cricket betting fiasco, Raj Kundra has been again named in a controversy and arrested by Mumbai Crime Branch in the alleged pornography case. The court has extended Raj’s police custody till July 27, along with his IT Head Ryan Thrope.

Shilpa Shetty: There is no free lunch in the world

She has been in the Hindi industry for almost 27 years. Actress-entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty Kundra agrees that stardom does not come easy and that one needs to put in efforts to be successful.

“There is no free lunch in the world, so one has to put in effort to achieve success in any sphere. There are pros and cons but in my case the pros outweigh the cons, so it is enough reason to rejoice,” Shilpa told IANS.

Shilpa made her Bollywood debut in the 1993 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “Baazigar”. Since then she has been a part of the cast in many big-ticket films including “Main Khiladi Tu Anari”, “Dhadkan”, “Indian”, “Garv: Pride And Honour “, “Apne” and “Dus”. Her performances in “Phir Milenge” and “Life In A… Metro” have been particularly applauded.

Over the past 27 years, how does she look at the evolution of roles for women in Bollywood? “It is a great time for actors and cinema as the medium is evolving, and so are the audiences. There has been a welcome change, (and it is) an opportune time to experiment,” she replied.

Shilpa, 45, has even tried television. In 2007, she became won “Celebrity Big Brother” in the UK. She was then seen hosting season two of “Bigg Boss”. The actress also judged reality shows like “Zara Nachke Dikha”, “Nach Baliye” and “Super Dancer”.

What else does Shilpa aspire to do? “(There is) So much to do and achieve. Times have changed, experience is a good teacher and makes actors better. I am looking forward to people seeing a new and better side to my talent after this sabbatical. My approach to cinema is also different,” she said.

Comedy, is one thing she wants to try more. “I enjoy watching comedy, so would love to do more of that,” she pointed out.

Shilpa married businessman Raj Kundra in 2002. The two welcomed their son Viaan in 2012. They had a second child, daughter Samisha, in 2020 via surrogacy.

She shared the key to her happy and successful marriage. “We have just learned to accept and let each other be. We want to grow in this relationship not grow out of it. We try to do things that make us happy because if we can’t be happy we can’t keep each other happy. We’ve learnt to agree even in disagreements,” Shilpa said.

Shilpa said that the “bedrock” of her “relationship” is faith and friendship. “We prioritise family. That’s what keeps us going,” she stated.

Police complaint on Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty.

Police complaint on Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty

Stars need to be even more cautious nowadays while making any comments on public media. Comments made by Super star Salman Khan and heroine Shilpa Shetty’s comments in another (unrelated) TV show drawn criticism from a community as the comments hurt their feelings and they filed a police complaint on both these actors.

Salman Khan, during the promotions of Tiger Zinda Hai had used the word ‘bhangi’ referring to his dancing style. Salman Khan, while promoting his latest movie Tiger Zinda Hai in a talk show, says he does not do certain dance steps if they “make him look like a bhangi”. On the other hand, Shilpa Shetty during her interaction with in TV , used the word ‘Bhangi’ to describe the way she is dressed at home. Dictionary meaning of the word says -a Hindu sweeper or scavenger being a member of one of the lowest untouchable castes. Bhangi or Mehtar is a derogatory term used to refer to members of the Valmiki caste, a severely disadvantaged group in the Indian caste hierarchy. These actors using the term to describe themselves in unflattering situations is obviously offensive.

The Valmiki Community has filed a case against both the actors for using the word ‘bhangi’ that has hurt people’s sentiments. They have lodged a police complaint against Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra and urged strict action against the film stars. A copy of the registered complaint by the Valmiki Samaj Action Committee Delhi has been shared on their Facebook page.
