How is Jagan’s policy backfiring on Andhra?

CM Jagan’s decision on 75 per cent jobs for locals has started having its impact in different ways. Already, the national media has published negative stories. Now, virtually an agitation is going to be started in Bangalore. Kannada film actor and politician Upendra has decided to follow in the footsteps of Jaganmohan Reddy. He is demanding 75 per cent jobs for Kannadiga youths in industries set up in Karnataka state.

Upendra is beginning to give a big headache to the BJP government there by starting an agitation for 75 per cent quota. He is considering this as the immediate best way to improve electoral prospects of his regional party in the coming days. Since he is a popular actor, the demand is getting lot of media and public attention.

If Karnataka implements 75 per cent quota, it will immediately affect the job opportunities of lakhs of Telugu employees working in Bangalore and surrounding areas. Telugu professionals are more in number in the IT industry in Bangalore city compared to any other regional group. Upendra is including IT industry in his demand. Moreover, lot of people from Jagan’s native Kadapa district are working in Bangalore in different industries. This is triggering fears on how the local quota will cripple Andhras once such agitations spread to Chennai and Hyderabad.

Upendra’s March 6th tweet: What’s happening in the new party

0

Kannada Actor Upendra is known to Telugu audience as well with his performance in movies like Kanyadanam, S/o Satyamurthy etc. His Kannada dubbed movies like “A” and “Upendra” ran for 100 days in AP in 90s. Last year he launched new political Party Karnataka Pragnavantha Janatha Paksha (KPJP). He selected auto as logo for his party. So far Upendra has some positive buzz in Karnataka mainly because of his straight forward nature. However, nascent party heading for split and rumors are rife that he himself may join BJP soon.

As per the reports, the leaders of the party are upset with the ‘dictatorial attitude’ of Upendra. Assembly elections are due in just 2 months but Upendra has not released party manifesto yet. He is not seriously involving himself in party activities. Also, there are rifts among the leaders of the party over the selection of MLA candidates for elections. While all this was giving the hints about this party heading for a split, Upendra gave a cinematic twist with his tweet.

He tweeted, “The real results between prajaakeeya and Raajakeeya will reveal on 6th of this month. Wait and watch. Upendra”. Many political analysts are predicting Upendra may soon dump the KPJP party and join BJP. Rumors are rife that he had already discussed with BJP bigwigs about this. Probably today his plans will be out.

Though his joining BJP may help BJP in assembly elections, it will give a general impression that cinema stars can not run their own political parties and they always looking for short cuts. We will have to wait and see whether Upendra joins BJP or not.

Upendra responds on Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan’s political parties

Kannada Actor Upendra is known to Telugu audience as well with his performance in movies like Kanyadanam, S/o Satyamurthy etc. In fact a couple of decades back, his Kannada dubbed movies like “A” and “Upendra” ran for 100 days in Telugu. He recently launched new political Party Karnataka Pragnavantha Janatha Paksha. Upendra claimed that his party would reflect the aspirations of the workers and downtrodden. Also told, he will focus on basic things like education, health and insurance for all. So far Upendra has some positive buzz in Karnataka. But of course, positive buzz, media attention etc are not sufficient to make a mark in politics.

In his first interaction with the press, he was asked a question by a reporter that – “though film actors like MGR are successful, there are failure stories like Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan, Did you think of them before launching the party?”. This was the question reporter put. Obviously reporter did not do his full home work. Though Chiranjeevi and Vijaykanth contested in polls and failed, Pawan Kalyan so far did not contested and he only campaigned in 2014 polls and the parties for which he campaigned got victory in 2014 elections. However, Upendra replied to this question in an interesting way. Without talking on either successes or failures of others, he told – “I dont want to become MGR, Chiranjeevi or Pawan. I just want to be myself, Upendra”. There was thunderous response from the crowd for his answer.
