Telangana Opposition MLAs expend allocated funds tangibly compared to TRS

Telangana Opposition party leaders are spending more funds in their constituencies when compared to the ruling party leaders. The report prepared by the state government, highlighted that only 15 out of 119 MLAs have spent more than 75% of the funds allocated to them and 4 MLAs have spent below 25%. While 37 MLAs expended between 25-50% funds, 65 MLAs spent about 50-75% of the money allocated to them under Constituency Development program (CDP).

As per the report in Deccan Chronicle, Minister of IT K T Rama Rao spent less than 25% funds while the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao himself disbursed less than 50%. Congress leader K Jana Reddy, TDP leader Revanth Reddy, BJP leader Kishan Reddy and MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi expended 75% of the funds allocated to them in their constituencies.

Minister of Forest, Jogu Ramanna is the only cabinet minister to pass 75% of funds to his contituency. Minister of Tourism A Chandulal, Minister of Health Dr C Laxma Reddy, Endowments minister A Indrakaran Reddy consumed less than 50% of funds. Speaker and Deputy speaker spent 50% and 75% funds respectively.

Apart from KTR, three MLAs who spent less than 25% include Warangal East, West MLAs Konda Surekha, Dasyam Vinaya Bhaskar and Nizamabad Urban MLA B Ganesh.

It may be noted that each MLA was allotted Rs 1.50 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 3 crore in 2016-17 under the CDP. In the mid of June 2017, about Rs 75 lakh were released for each MLA/MLC constituency as part of the first instalment for the year 2017-18.

Telangana BJP president Dr K Laxman, Congress MLAs D K Aruna and J Geeta Reddy spent more than 75% funds. 64 MLAs including Minister of Irrigation Harish Rao, along with ministers Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Etala Rajendar, P Mahendar Reddy, Talasani Srinivasa Yadav, K. Padma Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao, G. Jagadish Reddy disbursed somewhere between 50-75% of allocated reserves in their constituencies.

As per the report, Chief Minister KCR is allegedly planning to reframe the guidelines for CDP along the lines of MP fund and is also said to be contemplating on the method of reimbursement.
