Analysis:
This film is an attempt to do a crime thriller with backdrop of convincing family story. First half has a feel-good story with some brief moments of love between Naga Chaitanya and Lavanya Tripathi. However, the snail-paced narration in first half may not be liked by all. The sections where Lavanya is introduced to the family and subsequent scenes of romance are classy. Arjun (Naga Chaitanya) who is passionate about drone making technology, uses his invention to carry blood to a pregnant lady caught in a traffic jam. This scene stands out. Few Rao Ramesh dialogues about parenting are impressive.

As the criminality hits the family, movie shifts to non-stop revenge mode from interval block to till the end. The whole second half is a huge let-down. Confusing screenplay and single point conflict fails to appeal. On top of weak story, director has attempted too many unwanted twists.

Senior hero Srikanth in his villain getup is good but his characterization is weak. His role as Nayak has been shown much networked and powerful than cabinet ministers.

Music director Vivek Sagar had made a mark with two good songs, but the background score is pathetic. Two action sequences would have seemed better if only the background score is decent. Vaarahi banner’s production values are good. Dialogue writer Abburi Ravi has written few interesting dialogues in first half for Rao Ramesh character.

Performances:
Naga Chaitanya is pretty cool in Arjun’s character. He has to enact three different shades – as a caring son, naughty lover and an angry young man in this film. Except in a couple of scenes, he succeeded in his role. Lavanya Tripathi has a limited screen presence with no scope to perform but is very charming in this film. Rao Ramesh and Revathi gave their best as far as acting is concerned in this film

Murali Sharma as NIA investigating officer JD Shastri , Srikanth as Nayak are good. However, because of the twists, these two characters are not strongly designed

Positives:

  • Feel good family story in first half
  • Lead pair Naga Chaitanya, Lavanya Tripathi
  • Rao Ramesh, Revathi performance
  • Rich visuals

Negatives:

  • Slow paced first half and boring second half
  • Poor Background score and Lack of good songs
  • Weak story, Poor villains’ characterization
  • Verdict:
“Yuddham Sharanam” is a big disappointment to put it bluntly. It starts off promisingly but soon the graph keeps going down. It might appear as an average flick for fans and families because of its family tone in first half and for cool lead pair. However, the film nosedived in the second half !
