In the phone tapping case that shocked Telangana, former ISB Chief Prabhakar Rao and another key accused Shravan Rao may soon be brought back to India. Red Corner Notices have been issued against both men, with information reaching the state CID through CBI from Interpol. Police are now in advanced talks with central authorities to expedite their return through deportation from the United States.
Telangana state police received confirmation that Red Corner Notices have been issued against former ISB OSD Prabhakar Rao and Shravan Rao, opening a clear path for their extradition. Hyderabad police are now in communication with the Union Home Ministry and are working to inform the US Department of Homeland Security about these notices.
Once the information reaches the US authorities, both accused may face provisional arrest in America. They could then be sent to India through the deportation process. However, the accused might challenge their arrest in US courts, having already filed petitions seeking political asylum and claiming political vendetta against them, something the American courts might consider.
If they don’t get relief in the US, deportation seems inevitable. They would then be flown back to India. With Look Out Circulars already issued at all airports, they would be detained upon arrival and information would be passed to Hyderabad police. Their return could give the phone-tapping investigation a political twist.
The accused had previously informed the court they were in Aurora, Illinois, and Miami for medical treatment. After promising to cooperate with authorities, they fled abroad, prompting police to have their passports cancelled. Telangana Police have also filed petitions to declare them proclaimed offenders for evading investigation.
