YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent visit to Palnadu to console the family of a party leader who died by suicide last year sparked a massive controversy because of the aggressive fanfare displayed by his supporters through out his roadshow despite lack of police permission. Moreover, the unorganised visit resulted in the death of an person who was alleged to have been hit by Jagan’s convoy.
Initial reports suggested that the man identified as Cheeli Singayya, aged 55 years, after a vehicle in Jagan’s convoy hit him during the roadshow on the National Highway near Lord Anjaneya temple, Etukuru village in Guntur on Wednesday. Guntur Range Inspector General of Police Sarvashresta Tripathi and Guntur District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar confirmed that Cheeli Singaiah was hit by a vehicle in Mr. Jagan’s convoy.
In a shocking revelation now, Singayya was trampled down to death by Jagan’s own vehicle when massive crowds welcomed the ex-CM on the highway. A video capturing the distressing accident has been going viral on social media since today morning and it is clearly evident that Singayya was run over by the very car in which Jagan was travelling. We can see some unidentified person recording the mishap while Jagan was just about to acknowledge tens of supporters who gathered to welcome him for the visit.
The video has triggered huge outrage and there are now demands to take severe action for the death of a supporter due to the negligence of the driver. Singayya seems to have lost balance and fell under the wheels as many supporters pushed each other to greet Jagan Mohan Reddy when his car slowed down. There is a sharp criticism aimed at the police department for confidently claiming that Singayya died after he hit by one of the vehicles in Jagan’s convoy. They even revealed the car number during the press meet.
“The accident happened when the crowd tried to throw flowers on Mr. Jagan’s vehicle. In that process, the victim fell down from one of the vehicle and after that another vehicle ran on him,” the police explained in the media interaction.
With the clear footage of the incident coming out, it remains to be seen how the police responds now and what action would be taken. The YSR Congress party is yet to react on the incident.
