In a major development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested former minister and YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh in connection with the fake liquor racket that has rocked Andhra Pradesh. The arrest came after SIT officials conducted a surprise visit to his residence in Ibrahimpatnam, NTR district, on Thursday.
Sources said the action followed key evidence and statements linking Jogi Ramesh to the illegal liquor network. The prime accused in the case, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, had reportedly told police that the fake liquor was produced under the “influence and encouragement” of the former minister. Based on this testimony, the SIT moved swiftly, detaining Ramesh’s close aide Arepalli Ramu, before taking the former minister himself into custody.
The investigation into the fake liquor scam has gained significant momentum in recent weeks, with several raids and arrests across the state. The SIT is now probing Ramesh’s alleged financial and political role in facilitating the illegal trade.
Jogi Ramesh now faces serious legal trouble as the case widens. Police have shifted him to the Bhavanipuram police station for questioning under tight security.
