Writer and Activist for Dalit rights Kancha Ilaiah is encircled by controversy for his new book ‘Samajika Smugglurlu Komatollu’ meaning ‘Arya Vysyas are social smugglers’.

This did not go well with the Vysya community who took to streets to protest against the title and contents of the book at several places in Telangana. They not only demanded withdrawal of the book but also wanted the author to be arrested.

Ilaiah in his book penned why Vysyas are disliked by other communities and how they transition from non-vegetarians to Vegans.

However, the Professor said that the new book is a chapter from his book published in English titled ‘Post Hindu India’ in 2009. A publisher now translated only one research based chapter about Vysyas and published it as book.

The author told DC, “I haven’t used any derogatory word. Social Smuggling as a phrase is an economic process of exploitation, where it means earning in business and not investing back into society.”

Ilaiah asked haters to retort with a book instead intimidating and making abusive phone calls.

The protestors said that this not something new to the author who has time and again insulted various castes. Members of Arya-Vysya Sangam demanded apology from the author.
