Kantara Chapter 1, prequel to Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, has achieved a rare feat at the box office in its third week run. In fact, it created history by opening the first ever 200 Crore club in Karnataka state in just 18 days. This is a huge record because even KGF 2, which redefined the stature of Kannada cinema and also showed its true box office potential, couldn’t achieve this record despite the fact that notched up more than 1200 Crores worldwide.
With this Sunday’s morning show collections, Kantara Chapter 1 topped the Kannada box office by entering the unprecedented 200 Crore club to create a new benchmark for upcoming films. The first installment fell short of the ambitious club in 2022 as it managed to gross around 183 Crores. Even though KGF 2 also emerged as a blockbuster beyond Karnataka, it failed to open the coveted club.
Once again, it is Rishab Shetty who delivered the highest grossing Kannada film in the state. The film has grossed 200 Crores within the state and added a staggering 500 Crores worldwide so far. The total gross has surpassed the 700 Crore mark and made the film one of the biggest blockbusters this year. However, it is unlikely for the film to touch the much hyped 1000 Crores club.
Produced by Hombale Films, the prequel was directed by Rishab Shetty himself. His stupendous performance and terrific visuals have propelled the film’s box office run.
